A History book with 4 pages...

So, anyone ever wondered why all, all books in the Elder Scrolls are so short?

Even history books, textbooks and even novels! The book about the Book about Pelagius' Madness wasn´t even a chapter of a real book. And Mace etiquette is hilariously as well. And even if all parts of the Barenziah biography would be taken together into one book, it would still be one short biography. And the stories, all the stories! Chance's Folly is merely a short story! For instance.

Some books don´t even have a secon page!

I mean, you find a book, like "The Lusty Argonian Maid" and it has three pages. Sure, it might be printed. But no bookbinder would waste his time on that. On the other hand, books don´t seem to consist of covers only. Books have pages, atleast the models of ingame books. And it would only be logical that there are books with 300, 400 pages, as there also are in RL.

So my bold theories:

1. You only get to read the most intersting parts/chapters of one book.

2. All books are just summaries / the game gives only summaries to you / the player character reads the books and gives a short summary to the reader (player)

3. You read the blurb

Who controls the Septim crown?
Who keeps the Allesian Heresy down?
We do, we do

Who knocked Yokuda off the maps?
Who keeps the Dwemer under wraps?
We do, we do

No, you can skim read incredibly fast, allowing you to pick out a random bunch of words, and your incredible adventurer luck makes you choose words that fit together, including an appropriate title. For example the lusty argonian maid might have been a book about daedra, those are just the words you happened to pick out.

Or books are written by Gods above Aedra etc, who are so busy creating nirn etc they dont have time to write those books, but continue to take your monies anyway.

Or or or... Its impossible to write so many full length biographies, novels and plays and that its something that we just have to deal with due to the fact that its a game and not real life. Just like how your character can survive without ever eating sleeping or drinking.

Death to Queen Ayrenn!
Down with the covenant!
Glory to the pact!

Xhuvara - Argonian guerrilla fighter and leader of the shadow fangs

Azhir - Redguard knight dedicated to the art of war

Forget game mechanics. They didn´t have enough writers to write all the books, we don´t have enough time to read all the books. Let´s all forget that, because this is a question about lore not about RL restrictions of time and authors ;)

Well, I notice a significant shortage of paper in Tamriel, this may be your answer.

That and many of the books have been taken from earlier elderscrolls titles like Daggerfall. They probably had the short books to save space because they are MASSIVE games.

Which is more difficult: To do as you wish? Or to have power and choose not to?

That all is an outgame explenation for short books. Here, we seek an ingame explanation ;)

Maybe it's because they've been ripped apart due to them containing too much knowledge for one book to handle?
Or it's because they really, REALLY love pocket editions of books.

He is in death as he was in life : rather screwed.

They've all been "edited" by Hermaeus Mora to ensure his eternal superiority in the realm of knowledge

I wonder if his books are the full books and not just many bits of a larger story like in the normal world.
