This is from a non-RP perspective.
In my adventures of the ES series there few weapons with details and not much of a choice of weaponry. After completing most of skyrim and oblivion I looked to mods for more interesting stuff including weapon mods adding different weapons like halberds, scythes, hand scythes, tridents, spears, etc. I wanted to know if everyone agrees on adding such weaponry or at least more detailed weaponry, or would you think it's too far out of lore?

Spears were in Morrowind, so yes, bring the spears. Tridents used by argonians, it´s pretty much of a Trope for amphibic races to use tridents.

Scythes on the other Hand... no.

Who controls the Septim crown?
Who keeps the Allesian Heresy down?
We do, we do

Who knocked Yokuda off the maps?
Who keeps the Dwemer under wraps?
We do, we do

Well, there is real life example of war scythes, which would fall into polearm cathegory. As for "classical" scythes, no, just no. They're farming tools, totally unsuitable for combat. It's ridiculous people insists on having them as a weapon choice.

There should also be crossbows and throwind knives/axes/darts, like in Morrowind.

And one-and-half blades, please!

It depends. There's a lot of weapons in the lore that haven't been in recent games, like spears and halberds. In fact there are stories which mention the Imperial Legion using spears as one of their main weapons, but we don't see them at all in recent games.

The limited number of choices when it comes to weaponry primarily stems from development reasons rather than lore reasons. As others have mentioned weapons such as spears, tridents, and throwing darts exist in the Elder Scrolls universe but simply haven't been added to the more recent games. Normally this is because the development of animations and models are not deemed to be worth the cost or cannot be done due to time constraints.

There would nothing lore breaking or anti-RP about adding in these weapons. Hopefully due to the long term nature of TESO, more types of weapons will be added over time!

I love to see nothing less than the great scythe as a weapon choice (as wielded by the Angel of Death - notably the Hebraic legends of Azrael, Lilith, & Samael whom are among my favorite characters) and being able to wield it with heavy armor, regardless of the RPG I play. However, seeing them bastardized into polearms would make me vote against.

I would like them to add new weapons as long as they make sense being in an elder scrolls gaame

I don't call for huge scythes, I like hand scythes for dual wielding or the smaller farming scythes.

There's an important distinction to make here: are you talking about a single player game that is being modded, or the core game in a place where the lore is well-established, making the new information canon?

If it's a single player game that is being modded to have those in there then to each their own. Why not throw them in there if you want them? I saw a mod one time for Oblivion that added some kind of winged angel race. It was VERY well done and looked incredibly fun. How I wished I had it on computer for all the crazy (and in many cases lore-breaking) mods.

If it's part of the core game in, say, Vvardenfell and they're adding nunchucks: No, no, PLEASE no.

If it's in one of the other continents though, then there is some more flexibility with the lore since there isn't any for that area yet.

I can't remember who said it (I think it might have been Sordak), but they summed up my sentiments perfectly a good long while back.
Don't fuck with the lore.

I understand that to many people, the TES series is just another game series that should cater to what the fans want. I can understand that logic. But those people need to keep in mind that one of the things that makes TES what it is is that it's believable. It has its own innate laws, culture, history, etc. Once you start tweaking things that are already set it replaces that feeling of looking through a window into another realm. For all the fans that it sucked in and enthralled, to them the world starts to look like a shabby, obviously artificial, colored cardboard wall.

So I'll say it again: Don't fuck with the lore, at least in the canon section of the games and literature. It ruins the the feel of TES for many TES fans.
