I don't think it really matters. Any race can become great.

OTOH, the Dunmer got a starting bonus to Archery/Marksmanship in both Oblivion and Morrowind.

realy depends. for starts, there are no race stats anyway. and as for class, you can use a bow with either, i just dont realy see the point in a bow wielding wizard, cause why use a bow when you can throw fireballs.

For lore reasons: a traditional archer, the dark elves, they probably use archers the most in conventional warfare. For a Hunter: The nord, the nords are great hunters and are known to hunt anything from bears to mammoths with bows, they tend to stick to greataxes in warfare tho, however they do use bows for suprise attacks (as seen from the stormcloaks)
If you go for a stealth archer the argonian is your man. Beein Skirmishers and ambush fighters by nature, the bow is a great weapon for them to initiate combat and then mop up what remains alive with spears.

Kinda hard mastering archery in swamps - Crossbows maybe? Poison darts?
. They would use close / mid range weapons for fast fights.

ever seen a native from the amazonian area shoot down a monkey from a tree. i guess those folks got pretty damn good at archery in the swamps.

I'm Brazilian and I must say: Natives don't live on swamps. Amazonia isn't a swamp - There are many and many rivers and most of year rains for weeks but stills not a swamp. I really cant speak about it properly because I don't know how dense Blackmarsh is... And for me Argonians seems more ambush-like fight style than wait for hours to get a good position for shoting - But I can be totally wrong xD

And I'll just add - They don't shoot monkeys from trees because there are not many eatable monkeys... So... You know... Land birds taste better.

probably its not in the amazones. i saw a documentary about it.
And i dont see the difference, the fact that its all muddy doesnt realy make a difference in archery. id say old britain was quite the swamp before they laid it bare in modern times. yet its the place we got their longbow archers from.

it just doesnt sound like something that has an impact on it.

As for the ambush fighting, yeah sure, but you can use bows for that too. Of course you probably wont get any hail of arrows. But as ive pointed out. stealth archery is where its at. Argonians would most likeley snipe off a few enemies before going into melee with hand weapons and spears.

If the wood is too dense you cant have a clear shot and if you hunt "mud monsters" your arm / bow don't have enought power to hurt it under the mud/water that's why I said "crossbows" because they were build to suchs things - as for armor piercing. The archery masters always were marcial artists and mounted combat fighters.. But I agree with you - I think that Argonians are silent killers when handling a bow - And I really can't speak further cause I don't know how wild Blackmarsh environment will be.

On Forgotten Realms the elves rangers are quite superior with theyr long sword (main hand) shor sword (off hand) even being impossible to hand a long sword in dense woods. So I guess Zenimax will have to pick gameplay dinamics or reality.

yeah here comes the thing that we dont know of black marsh. Is it more like the Blackwood (Whas it that what it was called in oblivion) as in more of a dark and cold swamp or will it be more of a jungle?

as for crossbows i doubt the argonians have crossbows. And even if they did, why would they use them. Hardly anyone would use heavy armor in that enviroment, and corssbows have been for the largest time used to fight heavily armored opponents. They are also very slow to reload, generaly they dont realy make sense for the argonians.

I guess the most natural weapon for them would be a throwing spear and hatchets.

Britain wasn't Especially swampy at all. The Longbow in old 'Briton' comes from Wales.

I agree with nightniix. Bows are not a common weapon in jungle neither in reallife nor in fantasy. For the Dunmer: Just because they are elfs they needn´t do be good archers. They are said to focus on magic and near-range battle anyway. So I would say Nords would make the best archers. But as mentioned: No stats, no special archer race. Simply doesn´t matter.

Except that the race of Dunmer excels in combat for one reason: "Dunmer are noted for their skill with a balanced integration of the sword, the bow and destruction magic"

And bows are used in almost every single remaining primal tribe in existence on our planet.

However no class is superior nor inferior when it comes to archery I'd agree that if used for hunting a traditional bow is prefered, makes for swift re-shot in case you missed and spooked the deer
Crossbows just are to bows what heavy armor is to light armor, and don't know about you but I've rarely seen/heard of an heavy armored hunter bothering to sweat and pant all day tracking his pray
Even if just combat wise I prefer bows above crossbows anytime

And on a side-note bows are awesome for hunting even in dense woods since you don't have to shot anything that is on the ground you can shoot betwen the branches of trees for apes or if in walenwood, Imga, and fish in the rivers(if I recall some tribes in the amazonas use bows to shoot one of the worlds biggest fresh water fish>
one doesn't have to hunt his pray either if the woods are so dense hide in a tree and see if anything will show itself in an area with a clear shot
I also believe walenwood is rather dense forestwise but the bosmer are renown for their archery

I think they changed some races for gameplay dinamics - I remember Khajiits being sneaky and now the descriptions says they are kinda "frontlines". But I'm waiting for spears and glaives.
