Bow In Teso

When I watch the videos of developers, interviews, reviews or previews I always see this one statement: We want this game to be like the Singleplayer ones (skyrim, oblivion) So I have this question then: Will there be a range for bows like in all the MMOs or will the bow be like one of skyrim? (shooting somewhere in the sky and it'll fall somewhere on the land)

Given combat rewards for skill, I would hope that scoring a borderline impossible shot to targets barely in your sight would give you quite a good benefit, like extra damage for that shot.

I dunno though, I think that because its not a auto-attack system that it could quite possibly be more like Skyrim.

Well, may the nines hear you:D yeah, I hope it'll be like skyrim too. It will make the castle sieges a lot interesting.

Also make the role of an archer an important one, as well as a ranged back up in massive melee clashes.

It probably will be an auto target system like other mmos so you wont be aiming. It would be nearly impossible to hit an oppsoing players who is moving and dodging. You'll probably be able to do abilities like rapid fire and AoE of arrows.

This is relatively close to the correct answer.

The projectiles that you create in Skyrim all need to be tracked by the game because they have realistic physics that get acted upon them. That takes up a lot of power, but the game can easily handle it because there's only a few projectiles on screen at any given moment.

When you start talking about 100v100 battles, the latency that can be produced from those is unimaginable. Therefore, we will be able to lock onto targets and hit them as long as our reticle is aiming at them the moment that we personally release the trigger of our bow, or even cast a firebolt. Otherwise when you fire, it will most likely travel in a strait line and inflict damage if something happens to be in the way.

I'd give you a source, because I do have it for this information somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly it is where at this point.

I partly agree with your arguments... Though we have experience of massive medieval pvps and they all weren't even close to TESO budget, experience or professionalism, I mean Mount&blade multiplayer, War of roses, Chivalry and e.t.c. would it be really difficult to do this? Yes, obviously but, c'mon guys that's why we love The elder scrolls series right? because they do all the difficult stuff and make revolutions in the gaming universe. So, let's hope for the best.

not really target like in other MMO.
because some podcaster said that there will be targeting for range class.

but i think it will be like this. the one that targeted is the one who are closer to our crosshair. not target using "tab" like WoW.

From what I've heard, you soft-lock onto enemies. Meaning that you need to face them, and aim your reticle at them, and it finds them like a heat seeking missile.

They have said that cyrodiil will have 2k players, with 200 on screen at any one time. That is very impressive if they pull it off. If they had physics based combat (like arrows in skyrim), it wouldn't be possible to have anywhere near that number on screen.

It's server side so it's quite feasable. It doesn't mean it has to equate the multiple differentials in your client as you'll only be displaying what the server computes.

I thought that that meant it was more along the lines of the Call of Duty games where it helps you aim a lot easier.

I really hope its more than point and click.
I am looking forward to projectile fall.
I dont think it will be "heat seeking missile" more coding with [chancetohit= xx] depending on level ?

From what they have said its going to be a soft lock, like mass effect, you have to aim but you wont be leading your target, or have real physics etc

Basically it's going to work like mass effect, as the person above me said. You aim at them, and it hits them. No 'arcing' the shot or anything.

The lock is more like aiming assist in the middle of a crowd only though. You won't hit people you aren't aiming at, it just helps to distinguish who you are actually aiming at.
