Character Names on Mega Server

I'm not sure if this has been addressed, sorry if it has, but haven't found info about it on google or searching the forum :P

What I'm curious about is how character names are going to work on a mega-server. Not sure if it's "first come, first serve" or "first and last name". I sadly have a couple names I use for my MMO characters and want to know if I need to rush to get names reserved on launch, lol.

I know it sounds silly... but any information would be appreciated and thanks in advance! :)

I started watching more videos about TESO and it popped into my head.

Lack of sleep and a single thought made me paranoid enough to ask this question, lol.

Haha it's ok to ask anything you want that it's about the game here, there is no problem with that!
Just make sure the question you ask hasn't been already asked or solved ;)

Based on the research that I have conducted, I've discovered that,

Quote:First/Last Name: During character creation, the player will have the ability to enter both a first and last name for their character (forming an unique server combination). The naming guidelines: At least 3 letters long, starts with a letter and ends with a letter. No more than 2 of the same letter in a row. One hyphen or apostrophe at most.

Everyone will be required (As far as I know) to have a different first name, but people can have the same last names. This is most likely to allow "Families", or for players to create multiple accounts to make their Surname famous.

I think we can have the same first name too and that's the whole point with having two names. It lets every who want to call themselves Aragorn do that, but there will only be one Aragorn Romney and one Aragorn Obama.

They will most likely use first and last name with possibly even middle name and include things like ' to be used so that names can be very unique. IF they use first and last name only it makes it so you can match first or last with another player but not both.

Mine involves the type of character I want to play sorta like a scorpion type wood elf. In Skyrim I made a tanned bosmer with desert type robes on and the blood red face print war paint to look more like blood. I think that you don't have to have a last name but you can reuse the last name like stated above for different characters. I think the first name is unique so if your looking up a player their won't be thousands of people with the same name.

I think they will have a naming system like Guild Wars. Allow players to choose two names because that just opens the possibilities x1000.

I don't mean to be a jerk and impose my preferences on others... but if I had the option, I completely would enforce 'Role Playing' names that actually fit a fantasy setting.

No 'Noobinator' type names.

That's just my preference, of course.

I honestly think it will be first in first served than people will just have to variate their name if its taken.

I can agree with you on that one. I understand that not everyone wants to have a role-playing name, but I don't want to see the emperor with a name like "Ipwnulol"

I read in one of the interviews or hands-on, that there is a spot for two names. What I haven't been able to verify is if you can go with just one name.

Guild Wars 2 launched with names that had to be unique across all accounts (now at about 3+ million).

Most people went with two names, but if you started playing early enough you could go with just one unique name.
