Ebonheart Pact (Nord)
Great to finally make my way to this forum, really looking forward to TESO.

First and foremost, I think we need to address obvious faction population imbalance. While there is still definitely some evening out that will happen as the game picks up heat and more people subscribe, The Ebonheart Pact is looking more and more like the Skyrim fanboy faction (I am also guilty of this) every day. Nords are already the most popular class, and I feel like despite phasing and "mega-server technology" (still skeptical), what's going to happen in Cyrodil? I feel the biggest implications here are with regards to PvP.

I remember when SW:TOR came out, and Ilum, despite the Bio-hype, was an enormous peice of garbage unfit for even the 12 year olds to ruin. Despite several re-works and attempts to modify the horrendous bridge daily/weekly farm-fest it became, it remained broken and bad, and eventually was cast aside (by players and devs alike). I feel like a lot of this was (on my server, at least) primarily due to faction imbalance; at peak hours, Imperials outnumbered the Republic at least 3:1. That looks a lot like where Ebonheart is going.

Zenimax has mentioned in previous articles/interviews that they are going to implement a hard cap on the population per faction. That's all well and good, but I think that still leaves a lot of potential problems unaddressed. What happens when there aren't enough Alderi Dominion in Cyrodil to create a phase for the 200 Ebonheart that are looking for blood?

Please feel free to discuss your concerns and comments below. As always, I look forward to seeing you all more on the forums and in-game. For the High King!

Hi Shog, welcome to the forums.

This topic has been discussed quite a bit around here. While the numbers look imbalanced now, its much to early to predict how things will be at launch. There are many factors that we don't know yet such as the potential population caps in Cyrodiil. Furthermore, not everyone will be flooding into Cyrodiil, since a lot of people like just doing PvE stuff too and there's plenty of that to go around elsewhere.

At the end of the day, I believe that the actual number balance in Cyrodiil will be much closer come launch. And don't forget, the three faction dynamic encourages relation building, alliances and betrayal.

I wouldn't worry yet :-)

My advice is to do nothing about it. So many problems have been created by devs trying to regulate faction balance, that it's not worth it to try. If you're part of the EP and there are never any AD or DC players to PvP, if PvP is your bread and butter, you're going to think about switching realms in order to get some action.

Back in the DAoC days, entire guilds would switch realms (and servers) to get more PvP action. Then the devs implemented realm bonuses for low population servers and no one really wanted to switch realms again. Sad.

Let the players work out the balance. Don't try to regulate it.

Wow, first time a dev ever responded to a forum post by me--and so quickly!! Thanks for your input.

Ooooh, alliances and betrayal! There's something I didn't think about. What a sexy concept to implement in an MMO ;)

I'm a mod, not a dev. This is a fansite after all. But you're most certainly welcome at any rate.

If you aren't familiar with DAoC, TESO's pvp system is based on it. I'm sure there are plenty of places to read up on it too.

Ah, this is a fansite. It's well-constructed! For a moment I thought it was Zenimax/Bethesda, since they posted a link to this from their Facebook page (and their website doesn't have a forum? Weird).

They've been kind to the community, for sure.

Much of the conversation surrounding the game takes place on fansites. Feel free to contribute and read around!

boring topic is boring. stop remaking it every second day.

ive pointed out numerous times: the megaserver will most likeley fix the PvP issues and please keep in mind: this is a TES related fansite. The Dunmer and the Argonians are huge in that community. Why? Because Morrowind. Those races are , lore wise, amongst the most interresting ones.
However, both morrowind and black marsh as provinces are not appealing to a casual crowd at all, neither are the argonians look wise, the same can be said about the dunmer if they stick to the style we have known from earlier TES games such as morrowind and skyri, where the "drizzt" immage is going to be shattered rather quickly.

The DC will get a large influx due to beeing the classic sword and sorcery faction and the AD cause of sexy elves + furries. making it the porn faction.

and if the fact that the EP is crowdet actually keeps you from playing that faction i just have to say to sort your issues with yourself out.
You dont always have to go against mainstream to prove yourself to be an individual.
And i sure hope im just making an exagrated example here, because thats what im doing.

Surely this issue is null and void because there are 3 factions? If one faction is over populated the best chance the other factions will have is to make a short term alliance or take advantage by some rear guard action while another faction is taking a beating. The one server factor will also make it intriguing as being on a server with a small pvp population is kak.

Also the Ebonheart Pact looks the most fragile as Argonians, the race I am planning on, don't trust any one! Slavery is commonplace in Morrowind and The An-Xileel don't like it!

However GW1 had 3 factions - US, EU & Koreans - as well as many guilds and only one server (with instances) and there was never an issue with imbalance. Probably not a good frame of reference but the only one I have for threesomes!

I will let the devs take charge regarding any imbalances that may occur, though I've already had my race picked since Oblivion and I doubt any inconveniences in game would lead me to become any of the other less-Argonian species. I'm not interested in PvP so I don't think I'll have troubles regarding that.
