As expected, after the initial layoffs Funcom cannot keep it's promise of delivering content updates on a monthly basis. Well, it's just a month, a week and a half, but is there still hope for catching up with half the crew fired?

I didn't hear about the staff cuts until just now. I used to follow TSW on and off since 2007, so it's a little disheartening to see that happen (as well as the DLC delay, but that's not quite as important in the grand scheme of things here).

After being turned off by how cash-hungry Funcom seemed to be with TSW, I stopped following it after playing a little bit of the beta, so I'm out of the loop. If I had to take a guess, I'd say things are just going to go downhill from here on out.

Dark days are coming, indeed.

I think they advertise with "Dark days are here" now...

It's a shame, nonetheless. TSW brought something new to the MMO table, but sadly, it's half-baked, buggy and missing features. Heck, even the in-game store that's supposed to make them money bugs and lags out quite often.

I think it's, yet again, a matter of wanting too much in too less time. And that's something you cannot afford anymore in the MMO market. Small scale, polished and with a niche approach and growing from there is the better option, if you don't want to take the 100 of millions of Dollars gamble, imo.

Additionally I must say that the whole game would have been better off as a single player game with lan multiplayer. Or over PSN or XBOX live, since it would have made a formidable console game as well. It kinda took the same route as SW:TOR by taking a great single player story/experience and slapping MMO features on it. Some of them too late or not polished enough.

Let's hope they can turn the tide with going FTP, but somehow I've got the feeling that even this market is oversaturated already and those big titles, especially SW:TOR, still are going to have a hard time staying afloat.
