Cyrodiil Can Hold Up to 2,000 players. Also the game can render about 200 players at once on screen.

2000 / 3 = 666.666667

So about 667 players for each faction

There will be multiple instances/servers of cyrodiil called "Campaigns."

Quote:* Because of the megaserver technology, Cyrodiil needs to be separated into multiple instances. However, instead of random assignment of players, ZeniMax recognizes the importance of having static PvP communities for the sake of rivalry and investment in the state of the realm war. Therefore, players are assigned (or may select) a “campaign”, which is a permanent parallel version of Cyrodiil’s realm war to which they belong. Campaigns will be named after the major cities in the region.

* Guilds can collectively select a Cyrodiil campaign, and players will be able to switch campaigns, however this will impose some meaningful alliance point cost. However, you are prohibited from having characters from different factions in the same campaign

Quote:The 'Introduction to Elder Scrolls Online' video (embedded above) has a massive PvP siege battle which looks like hundreds or even thousands of soldiers facing off against each other. Is a battle of this magnitude actually possible in the game, made up of human players?
Every one of the figures in that video was a human player. We got all of our devs into the game for a PvP test, and then captured that sequence with them. It was all in-game. Cyrodiil (the PvP map) is open-world and supports up to 2000 players in it at the same time. ESO’s client is designed to be able to handle (on the recommended spec) 200 players on screen at the same time. That particular scene had about 115 players on each side.

Any thoughts about whether 2,000 is too many people?

Just wait for the render issues to show up, and trust me, they will show up.

Sounds pretty awesome in my opinion, I suppose we will just have to see how it plays out. :)

Its gonna be a lag fest since i know for a fact that some groups of guilds will bring over 200 people into a fight to cause rendering issues for the enemy.

Lag fest? Possible. Depends entirely. Planetside 2 showed ups 1000 players in a fight is no longer a dream, but reality. however the rendering issues kick in there, but well, that engine is rather more demanding and has tons of optimization to do. And I expect nothing else from TESOs engine either.

I'm sure a vast impact on performance will come down to PC specs. PlanetSide 2 certianly does although SOE have done a pretty good job in optimizing it so far. My PC is over 4 years old and I can run the game on low - medium settings and still get a reasonable FPS rate.

wew. well that puts our concerns of "only 200 people in cyrod" to rest. thank vekh ( i hate you , you stupid ladyboy)
I wonder how they optimize this. But i doubt theyll just throw that at us without some kind of tech.

Anyway. its good news to me!

Honestly, for release they'll probably need MUCH more server-power. I can easily see much more than 2,000 players trying to be in the world at the same time. They'll either need to set up more mega-servers or be ready to devote more resources to the original server.

I think in order to accommodate that many players in the region it will simply not load players out of your sight, in much the same way regions load in TES series.

Looking at things in terms of the server is fine, because the extent of which a server can be made to withstand is incredible, my concerns come from looking back at the individual players internet speed and computers capability.

I am excited about massive slaughtering fest... i trust devs. I don't think that they'll ruin game by causing lag problems.

Yeh and they will see if there are lag problems in the beta and then be able to account for it and allow us to have our slaughtering fests!

If recommended specs limit rendering to 200, those of us with more beastish machines could extend that by a decend amount.

200 at one time for that instance/phase i.e. I would expect there will likely to be more than one battle at a time of the same scene? otherwise the queuing would potentially be hours, so in reality I don't think local lag would be the "main" issue, but "more so" on the Mega-Server side.

Render of 200 people will be an issue. If it is a hard stop, ie Culling, that is plaguing GW2... it is a problem.

I would like to know how these campaigns work... are they like locked instances where only people involved in the campaign are allowed. If so .. then a limit is placed and 200 people at once will be rare.
