Alright, I preordered ESO and am super excited to play once I get it. However I haven't had time or the consoles to beta test yet, and I'm very confused about how the skills and level system works in this, it seems much more limiting than other TES games where you truly customize your character however you want.

I make different characters to mess around with different play styles after I get bored and far into the game with my initial character. This also helps with learning their characters for my fanfictions but that's besides the point. What I'm saying is that I am mostly a first character player, I like sinking a lot of time into my initial character and get attached to them. With ESO I will honestly only have time to play with one character mostly. And for a long time I'll only care to play her anyway. Quality and not quantity for me.

So my question is what class should I use for the build I want? Templar or Sorcerer? The skills I really like and use (In order of importance) are: One-Handed swords, Destruction shock spells, Restoration, Heavy Armor, and Conjuration. I love me my daedra summons and storm atronachs. Will I have to give up any of these? I'm not sure if shock damage and storm/daedra summons are limited to the Sorcerer class or what. However healing myself and my party is super important to me as well.

Any suggestions, advice, or information you can give would be SUPER HELPFUL. I know it's noobish but I don't really know what's going on with character builds this game. With college and work and other irl stuff I haven't had the time to look into it but I'd like to have an idea of what path my character takes before starting her profile.

Thanks guys!
*Also, ignore my misspelling of Dunmer... why can't you edit titles?

Hey FriendOwl!

In my opinion, the Sorcerer will be the best class for your to choose. You'll be able to use your one-handed swords and heavy armor, but you'll also have the "Storm Calling" ability line which has plenty of high-damage attacks and also a storm atronach summon as well as the "Daedric Summoning" ability line which allows you to conjure scamps, clannfears, and wing twilights. Templars don't have any lightning or conjuration sort of spells, and you'll likely feel more like the archetype crusader or paladin if you choose that class.

Sorcerers on the otherhand do have the ability to throw out heals if you "weapon swap" to a restoration staff, which can be done very easily at level 15 and is an integral part of gameplay. I've heard sorcerers make good healers with the restoration staff due to some handy mana regeneration class abilities as well.

Hope this helps!

Hey thanks! Sounds like the Templar would force you into being just a glorified tank healer. Are there any other options down the road besides the healing staff for Sorcerers to heal with? Sounds like I'll only really be in the swing of things once I get to level 15. Sorcerer does sound the most promising though~

Templars can pull of pretty good DPS as well, and a few would say they are best at AoE damage. I'm afraid there are no other dedicated healer ability trees besides the Templar "Restoring Light" skill line and Restoration Staff, there's a couple stray abilities that help healing or healing regeneration though. Hope you find the sorcerer to your liking!
