Clarion Call Gaming Community Wrote:Public Dungeons are not a new idea in MMOs. Prior the release of World of Warcraft many MMORPGs had public Dungeons. Public Dungeons are dungeons that are open to everyone. Currently in MMOs almost all of the dungeons are Instanced. When you go into a instanced dungeon you are being isolated off from the rest of the world, the Massively Multiplayer part of MMORPG seems to disappear when it comes to instances.

If you have played Darkness Falls in DAoC you know that having dungeons that are shared are great and even moreso dungeons that are shared by opposing factions is some of the best PvE/PvP hybrid gameplay i have ever been a part of. I would love to see this come back to the market!

You know how i feel on this subject Garb. I love public dungeons and have been missing them for years, while I was playing wow.

I am the shadow within a shadow. I will accept any job; however I will execute the target, or maybe even the person who hired me; it all depends on who has the most gold to give. Even then you can not trust me to let you walk away with your life.

Love me some public dungeons. From Asheron's Call to DAoC, Dungeon Delving in a public dungeon was the best way to make new friends. People talk as if Dungeon Finders and Instances ruind community and to an extent a little bit of it does but public dungeons are possibly the #1 way to foster and promote community as it promotes team work and unity to conquer something stronger then you.

I haven't played a game with public dungeons before but I'm looking forward to being able to come across dungeon crawlers, especially with the game automatically treating you as being in a group with the people around you.

Everyone seems to love public dungeons. My first MMO was and still is WoW. What is so great about public dungeons? You all should tell me why you like it so I can get excited about this feature. I am currently too ignorant to know rather I should be for or against them.

Public dungeons are alive and feel differentiated from instanced ones. Yes the mobs respawn and bosses will be re-killable but even if just for a while when you kill a boss....no one else can. Thats what an MMO is. WoW styled dungeons (and I did them for years with glee) are merely Co-Op gameplay.

Having open dungeons allows for more social interaction and a bit more variety as you can't control every step of a dungeon crawl.

Now as I pointed to in my first reply...hybrid public dungeons like Darkness Falls allowed apposing factions to control access to the main segment of the dungeon with areas for skirmishing. So while you were dungeon crawling you could possibly come by groups of the opposing faction. SO MUCH FUN.

Hope that helps...and Zenimax: Bring us a new DF dungeon!

o.0 This is gonna be a fun feature, Having played WoW I kinda got bored with Dungeon Finder as I would just go and do my task without really interacting with the party as it was auto formed. Having an open dungeon will bring back some of the community elements to the game. Gonna be good.

I have a few questions about Public Dungeons in general if anyone knows the answers;

1.) In the larger public dungeons, was the difficulty at a constant level throughout the dungeon or did the difficulty ramp up as you dived deeper in?

2.) What was the typical group number for public dungeons? Did some require more people and some require less?

I haven't played a game with public dungeons before, but I'm looking forward to trying them out.

I was just scouring the TamrielFoundry and found this snippet of goodness:

Quote:There are a large number of public dungeons within Cyrodiil as well, which will combine exciting PvE storylines with the challenge and danger of encountering hostile player opposition within. In addition, ZeniMax are working to develop a mega-dungeon, reminiscent of Darkness Falls in Dark Age of Camelot, where access to this dungeon will depend on your faction’s success in the realm war.

I...I...need a minute.

-This is not known yet but past public dungeons in other MMOs did become more dangerous the further in you delved. I would assume this is the case with ESO's.

-Public dungeons will range from 1.5 players (difficult for 1 player, comfortable for 2 and fairly simple for more) to full groups. No info on whether raids will be public but I would assume not since raiding requires more planning and nothing is worse than planning a raid only to hear 10 minutes before start that Guild XYZ just downed your boss.
