Expansions.. how will they work?

Since the game is based around the alliance war, how will expansions work? Since none of the alliances can interact at launch, I doubt they'd release an area of the map in which people can actually come together regardless of their chosen alliance.

So will they be released in a way that each alliance gets some new land that was previously unused on their side of the map? Or individual content for each side?

I haven't had much MMO experience in the past... I don't know exactly how the system works and I would be happy if someone could fill me in.

All dependent upon the people making the game. It can be all three or it can be one of the three. We really don't know till the expansions come out.

I am the shadow within a shadow. I will accept any job; however I will execute the target, or maybe even the person who hired me; it all depends on who has the most gold to give. Even then you can not trust me to let you walk away with your life.

Cyrodill will be an area where all the factions are going to meet and this may not only mean to fight each other...you may have the chance to make trades and say hello to your Orcish, Argonian etc. friends ;)

@Ivixor well, I'm not to sure about that. I think it's been confirmed that there is no communication between the factions at all. I think it's meant to stop any cheap fights in cyrodiil in which one person is on one alliance simply to help his main's alliance.

oh dont get the debate about cross faction communication in here. its been a pain over at TF.
It wont be there lets have it at that.

as for expansions. it would be natural that they will add the missing territories of all the provinces. So i doubt youll get to play with the other factions on the same zone as it happens to be in WoW, at least no initialy. theyll think about spreading their resources thing in the future however.

Based on the research that I have collected over the past few weeks, I've determined that there are indeed parts of all 3 alliances that are going to have areas that cannot be accessed at the release of TESO. The size of these areas, however, varies dramatically.

According to The Elder Scrolls Online website, the majority of both Elsweyr and Black Marsh are going to be off limits, due to existence of the Knahaten Flu in the far South East of the continent.

There is a very good chance that they will release bits of area at a time depending on how the war effort for each Alliance is going. For example, if one alliance drops below 25% of the total player population, they may release a new area that will promote existing players to focus more time on supporting that alliance.

Expansions may be near areas not given at launch or new things like races/customizations and maybe new PvP areas like Naval Warfare. Also maybe race mounts.

Expansions will handle the normal MMO expansion features, along with a few ideas they'll maul around.

-Player housing was said to be in the works, but not for release.
-New areas, not everything will be open at launch, meaning yes, each faction will get their own new zones not to be shared.
-Oblivion, namely Coldharbour. I'm sure we'll encounter Mr.Molag there at some point.
-Possible new PvP modes, probably battlegrounds or arenas.
-New character models, and customization options (They hinted to possible new varieties in Khajit as the game progresses)
-New dungeons
-New Quests
-New features that we wont see at launch.
-And if any launch features seem to be lacking, possible overhauls of their system.
-UI improvements

Like I said, just normal game stuff.

One thing i always found interesting in WoW was the introduction of new races.. TES lore won't be able to do that and i feel though everything it has that may become boring, its just one of my worries. New WoW races always gave more information/people to play/cinematics etc. It is always interesting when you see the trailer for a new race, i hope TESO expansions are worthwhile.

well the races in WOW have always been apart of the lore. ESO can add the Akaviri, the snow elves (people believe that under the Dwemer slavery they got twisted into becoming Falmer), even Demora if an oblivion expansion comes out. How cool would it be to play as an Demora.

A whole new faction could be Imperials, Demora (since imperials summoned molag bal), and Snow elves (They hate nords). This will keep the game fresh for years to come.

Another exspansion could be that the people of tamriel could invade or are being invaded by the Akaviri. These come with 4 more races the ice-serpants, the vampire-serpants, the monkey-men, and the tiger-men.

@Panterra Arius I'm not really sure about much of the lore, but can't there be other races on the other continents? Perhaps expansions can be moved onto those? It would be really cool to see something really new on the other continents but that might be a bit of a stretch.

There are lots of races they could add in an expansion, like Snowelves, Dwemer, Akaviri, Demora and probably a lot more then that. Dwemer are unlikely because of their story, however the possibility is there.

They could add beast races maybe like Giants, Frost Giants, and even dragons, hey they can talk! Also the Imperial race is not playable at launch so that could be added as well.

Plus the devs have said that each province in the game will have areas that are not accessable at launch, all of those areas they are most likely reserving for expansions.

Expansions will work like any other game. Add a bunch of content that they could of released game with but instead use it to make more money.

Check out lots of information regarding about THe Elder Scrolls Online at TESO Zone.

@tesozone what I meant was more along the lines of whether they would effect all three factions considering the fact that there will be no interaction between the three outside of cyrodiil.
