Help with a phone problem?

I didn't really know where else to put this, but I figured at least one person would know what's going on...
So I have a Nokia Lumia 710 and I've tried to setup my main email on it, to no success.
My work email is setup on there and works just fine, and I can access my main email by going to the web browser only.
So... some things I thought might be interfering is the fact that I have two-step verification connected with my phone, and I have around a 35-character password... I enter the password in just fine, and I've even re-entered my work email.
So... any ideas?

I have a Windows Phone as well (the 822) so I might be able to help, but you'll have to elaborate. What exactly is wrong? Does a message appear? Will it just not accept this new email? Or what?

EDIT: Also, what kind of email is it? Gmail?

Yeah, it's gmail. And whenever I try to connect the email to my phone it says it's incorrect and attention is required and whatnot

Try going to your phone's settings and see if there is anything wrong with the emailing system? IF not, isn't there an app for Gmail? Just download the app. :p

You could double check that you're writing your email and password correctly. I know it's obnoxious to hear but sometimes we do make silly mistakes. If that doesn't work, try going to Settings -> Emails + Accounts -> And instead of trying to connect through the Google option, select "Add an Account", then "Advanced Setup" or "Other Account"
