How are guilds/clans handled?

Hello there everyone. Sorry if this has been asked/clarified somewhere, but, I wanted to ask if anyone knows how much restrictions we'll have on guilds? (Such as, if I created a guild in the game, could anyone join regardless of race and faction? Or will they allow everyone to join, regardless of factions?)

Im really hoping they'll allow all races to join regardless of faction. I would really love a guild with Dark Elves and Orcs. Don't ask why, but its been my dream guild to have in any game.

I have a feeling it'll be split by factions, since TSW (The Secret World; totally unrelated) had locked in guilds/cabals.

So, anyone know, or is there a place that is discussing this? :)

Did you look: http://www.tesof.com/topic-what-do-a-guild-to-need ?

Edit: Few i would answer:

It is possible to invite orc and dark elf in a guild, yes. But they can not teamwork in pvp zones and faction zones are locked.

With player guilds you can only have faction-locked races.

So you would only be able to invite Dark elves, Nords and Argonians in your guild. As for the Fighters Guild/Mages Guild/Thieves Guild/etc.. I dunno how they are gonna handle that.

Aw, dang. Really? D: That sucks hardcore. Im assuming the Fighters Guild/ etc will be sorta like a... rep system. Thats the only thing I have to compare it by. With WoW and stuff. (Theres like The Tillers, The Huojin, etc naming a few of the latest expansion rep groups.)

In other word: The orc (from DC) join your EP guild. You can met the enemy (Orc) in pvp zones and "greeting" each other in a silence place who none of other would look on you, use emote and try to understand each other.

But in same guild, can write guildchat... sound strange yes.

Aye. I've played WoW for 7... I think its going on 8, years. I need something a bit new and innovative. I played GW2 and loved the concepts they had with the gameplay, but there was nothing to do after a while. :/

Hm.. I think I got what you mean; they can join your guild (the player guild) but anything with PVP you gotta be against eachother.

Though, the way you described the way the opposite factions interact with eachother worries me... Like, are there language barriers between factions? If there is, I'm... gonna be really disappointed. x.x; Thats one thing that I absolutely hate about WoW; the language barrier between Horde and Alliance. Sure, people may get nasty with eachother, but perhaps they could turn off interaction within the PVP areas; it would make so much sense.

Maybe one day in future of TESO:

No more faction wars and open zones for all, but we would at war of events or so. Later exp to TESO, we visit to isles and maybe unfriendly between factions, risk war? Who knows.

I know your point how races can make friends in TES lores, yes, as party, mercenary group, small enemies is been good friendly from happen, and more.... But problem majorly of groups from factions are most aggro and don't like each other races reason old lores as what happen of them.

2 issues spring to minds regarding guilds in TESO.

1 - the game is made up of 3 factions and therefor guilds will be divisive to the objectives of the factions i.e. a guild may have members from various factions working under different agendas plus act as spies thus sabotuaging pvp, tactics, etc.

2 - Morrowind already has its own guilds such as assassins, warriors, magicians as well as factional groups based on religion, race and politics so why the need for "guilds" uniting players when they already exist? More so Morrowind allowed membership of various guilds and groups so limiting players to one guild seems too GW for my taste.

Perhaps a "tribal" allegiance or some other game construct is required to allow RL friends to unite other wise the TESO becomes too influenced by GW. LOTRO has kins and a kinsman has the benefits of working with like minded people but I would hope all in my faction are working with me not in competition based along guild agendas?

Just my thoughts.

Player guilds are just highly specialized gaming clubs. And it's way easier to organize and motivate a handful of people you personally know, than thousands you don't. Additionally I'm sure they will name player run guilds differently, since there are in-game guilds already, to prevent confusion. You can join multiple guilds by the way.

If you can organize three guilds over three factions, then more power to you! And I fully expect inner faction struggles for power and competition about who to put on the throne. Just think of it, the Great Houses of Morrowind would (and probably will) plot against each other in a power struggle for the throne, so it makes sense for guilds competing with each other inside a faction.

I like all of what you say and I am looking to join a "collective" for the purposes you mentioned as it will add flavour to the gaming experience (as you succinctly point out).
