A fantastic article by Cy Catty over at Troll Scroll has an insight on some issues that Elder Scrolls might face when it comes to their combat system

Cy Cratty Wrote:Is all this variety a good thing, or is the game losing focus? There are four major aspects of the game that plays can pump time into – the storyline, side quests, PvE, and PvP. That’s a whole lot of activities ZeniMax Online is giving players right out of the gate.

The more to do the better as far as I'm concerned - in any game. I love to quest, explore, battle, private dual, kill mobs, wander, forage, craft and sell/buy crafts to/from other players. I like melee & ranged & magicka. I love housing and I like riding mounts. I have always loved the TES freedom to wander anywhere you want in the game at any time & you can choose to do or not do quests. ... Oh, and stealing - let's not forget stealing! And smoking, that too.

Games that bore me are ones where you have to stick on a prescribed walking path, only do quests in a certain order and there is not much other to do than fighting in one preset style. RL warriors live rounded lives, why shouldn't fantasy ones too?

I think this writer is way over-thinking things. Instead of watching bees and waiting for the honey ... he is poking a stick in our lair.

TESO - - Multiplayer: "M'aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you." M'aiq the Liar.

"Va Khaj Dar - Khajiity's united? M'aiq will join!" M'aiq the Liar

I can understand where they are coming from, Of course TES players won't see it because they are used to it, but people coming from other MMOs who may not have played TES games before, are going to be overwhelmed with all the possibilities of what can be done or what is happening.

Not to mention having all these features during a Single Player RPG is fine, during a MMO it is tough, because when it comes to new content they need to redevelop and create new stuff, where as if they stagger the releases of content, and ability type stuff they can have new content being rolled over monthly and expansions yearly.

You need to realize this is a MMO not just TES gamers are going to be playing it. And if you're not familiar with TES gaming its a huge left turn from what you are used to.

I never in my life(no joke about it) have been involve in PVP i always do the missions first and the story, because i never have been in the feeling to be on a PVP match, and as good as it looks, never try, to try it if you know what i mean. But as i shall say "now" because is elder scroll online, more than ever will like to try it, but this time for real.

I am primarily an MMORPG player, and I can say its healthy to see an MMORPG that isn't just PvE or PvP grindfest. MMORPG's these last years have came to the level of content-less sacks of bullshit. I'm more than glad that someones finally attempting to provide content, instead of rinse and repeat. And yes, I can see where some MMORPG players are coming from, but those are the ones that didn't know the genre existed before the massive meatgrinder.

I wonder what MMOs people have played before, to come to the conclusion what ESO will be offering could be too much. To me, what was announced already, is the bare minimum a MMO has to have and I am hoping there's loads more to come when they show us the fleshed out systems. Just can't have enough content (or content generating meta-gaming, for that matter) in a MMO.

what kind of statement is that? i agree with deveron. if you look at things like GW2 and TSW. they all had those things at launch and more. other games like EQ2 had all these things + housing at launch. and more weapon types. And an arena, something TESO wont have.

Its kind of a dumb statement, hell even wow had most of these things.

yeah I agree, so far it's basically the bare minimum, though the pvp so far is above the norm.
can't say there were a lot of games that had pvp anything like DAOC.

also looking forward to hearing about crafting!! Smiling

I am a bit afraid crafting might end up being rather shallow, since we haven't heard anything in this regard yet. Just makes me uncomfortable that there's nothing to tell about it just a year prior to release.

This concern me a little. Not that they are awesome, but the last thing I need during PvP against more than one foe is being locked to a mini-cinematic without capability of controlling my character.

It sometimes annoyed me even in skyrim, especially when it bugged with a crossbow. Lets hope they keep em really short

Back on topic. One thing I noticed is that everyone is trying to separate the mmo players and Elder Scrolls fans. Are they really so strictly separate? I dont think so. Actually I think both would be minority to players who are fans of both like me. I enjoyed every ES since arena and I played few mmos over last 9 years.
