Let's Reminesce About Olden' Times, DAoC-Style.

Well, we all know Matt Firor and Brian Wheeler (guys from Mythic), have a huge hand in this game, and are making it a DAoC-style PvP system, but, since it's an Elder Scrolls game, we constantly hear people reminiscing about their times in Morrowind, Oblivion, Etc.

So, I wanted to start a thread to get nostalgic about DAoC, and to talk about what aspects from DAoC we hope are present in what we can only hope will be DAoC 2; Elder Scrolls Online...

So, talk about a time you had in DAoC, a game mechanic you liked, or just have a general nostalgia-fueled party over what we miss and cherish in the wonderful game that was DAoC, and what we hope will be reproduced in ESO.

Let's begin:

So for one, I miss pwning people with my Vampiir... I had a level 50 Vampiir (post-Catacombs), decked out with ToA gear, and he was UNSTOPPABLE. A Vamp wore leather armor, and used a piercing weapon (like a Rogue), but had no stealth. Instead, they could cast with their off-hand and cast some awesome spells to. Like a badass melee-ranged DD, a badass HoT, and an awesome Endurance Drain (think stealing stamina from your opponent). Admittedly, I was Overpowered... I figured that out when I realized no one could best me in a 1 on1, but still, I had a blast. :)

Another thing I miss? The notorious 8-man. I seriously hope they consider putting this back into ESO, for some reason, 8 men just WORKED, amiright?

I loved the whole ambience, scenery, dress/armor styles of DAoC. I also absolutely loved that my hubby & I could level up together and achieve a new level at EXACTLY the same time. It was awesome. We've never been able to do that in any other game, it's always a little off sinc somehow by a few kills. I liked the horse-riding system, although I have come to like even better EQ2's owning of your own mounts and the way they function in transport & combat. Dark Age of Camelot was just one gorgeous, mythical game - is it still being played? Sorry, I'm out of the loop on that one, but we still have our discs.

TESO - - Multiplayer: "M'aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you." M'aiq the Liar.

"Va Khaj Dar - Khajiity's united? M'aiq will join!" M'aiq the Liar

Isn't Shadowbane itself in the process of being re-made in China?

Yea, the horse-riding system was cutting edge, back in the day, and I remember oftentimes two or more people would ding on the same mob kill, not sure how that happened, but it was sweet, lol... I remember the good ole' days, getting a ticket to ride the horse from Mag Mel down to Howth... Good times, not like the "go-anywhere-you-want" mounts of today, you could just kick back, and let the horsey take you where you needed to go, without having to worry about being attacked, what a relaxing ride that was. lol

Also, I really miss the Guild emblem system they had there, where you could create a sick emblem, and your whole guild would have it on their cloaks, shields, etc. Even banners strung down on keep walls that your guild controlled... Epic.

Well i cannot say to much from that game, I have seeing the gameplay obviously that does not compare to play the game. I start playing Mmo's to be honest thanks to Rift. a great game, and as much other games at the end of the row, is start to decay i still have it and long time i don't even play it, and now that finally TESO his here, i will never go back to it. By the way i will like to add, if Bethesda do something like this with the Fallout franchise this two games will be the most only Mmo's i will play the rest of my life the fact that i am a fan of Fallout franchise and honestly to Bethesda as well. I don't know if it's in China, don't think so .. but a Shadowbane emulator is being made by two groups who were each emulating it and they've combined. My hubby's played a bit on one of the seperate emulators. He says they are very clannish and if you want to get in, google for them, register and know a lot about the original Shadowbane and if they take to you, you're in.

You're right - it was the easiest, breeziest horseback relaxing-riding and great way to see the scenery too. And yes, the Guild emblem capes & shields & banners. Why don't other games do this anymore, I wonder?

I heard ESO will be implementing some system like that, but it's purely speculation... Though, not sure how that would work with the "multiple guilds" feature, I guess you could just choose which one you wanted to display, and on which article of clothing? I should note that the dragon-fly flights through SI Hibernia, were most enjoyable.

There's an updated version being made to at least to the Asian market. A Chinese company bought the rights and code from Ubisoft in 2011 and is developing a new MMO called The World of Shadowbane.

Geez, and I thought EA buying Mythic was bad. But again, who cares?

Not Set
This was a topic I was thinking about bringing up myself, glad to see a post already made. It really dawned on me earlier today how similar TESO is shaping up to be like DAOC, which to me is nothing but a good thing.

Mounts and guild emblems were awesome and are must haves. I have read there will be mounts and I will assume it'll just be normal, controllable mounts. I just hope there won't be any flying mounts unless used for fast travel.

Hey man, good to see a fellow DAoC'er up in the haus. Anyways, yea, I meant to mention, guild emblems, totally should have 'em, those things were awesome... Nothing like being in one of those guild with a "reputation", and showing off your colors as they're streaming down your cloak. ^^

Also, seeing them running down keep walls was pretty awesome to. :)

From what I heard, as far as travel goes, there'll be normal (non-flying) mounts (controllable), and "Wayshrines" which are insta-ports that link from one place to another... But I don't think they allow teleportation to any other Wayshrine, just one specific one here or there.
