Now I realise that a mega server will allow for better conected community, but with the game being more action base combat, will this cause lag/latency issues with players? Im not all that savy with computer pc parts and or what it takes to create such a mega server, so any pc tech guys please explain if this design can or can not work.

I would prepare myself for problems early on. It seems like anything that goes up online always hits a few bumps in the road.

I'm far from a tech savvy person myself, but I've read claims that the megaserver should somehow be able to handle latency better. Basically the idea was that the megaserver would try to put you into a shard that would be based on a slave-server to which you have the best connection.

yeah i had the same idea. But one of the interviews indicates that the whole technology would be in america (unless they go with the two server idea) wich i find rediculous. why dont have servers in different regions that coordinate these "layers" that are set in this region, language based ones for example.

Well it sounds like the while "shard" idea is out the window.... Confirmed from an intervew with Matt Firor. Watch the video here @1:26 he says no shards.

Firor clearly means servers when he talks about shards. We know that the game will create what are usually known "shards" when the player limit in one area is reached, I wonder what a name Firor would use for them.

Whatever, I think the megaserver alone is a very important development. No fear of server mergers and to me that alone is a very big plus.

Just creating a name for character that people will come to respect or fear is a great incentive for the megaserver. It a breathofa fresh air to know when your enemy see you coming that they turn tail and run! That was one big draw back from GW2 WvWvW that there was no way for you to create a name to strike fear in your enemies hearts.

well afaik the way DAOC handlet it was to show the name of realy good players in PvP. that sounds like a good idea. you know if youre slaughtering these enemy goons, and suddenly a real hero of that faction stands before you, clad in epic gear. youll crap your pants.

Shouldn't be a problem, games like The Secret World already successfully run similar technology for all players in all zone globally on ONE server (you log into your "server home" but it's all one server).

I thought of the same thing when I first heard about the mega server. I'm assuming it'll be like there are multiple servers but all connected, so you can "world hop."

That is the system used in the curreny MMORPG I play, RuneScape. There are over a 100 "worlds" but players aren't locked into 1 world like on shards. They can world hop when ever they wish. So for example, if I'm lets say mining some ores in "world 1" and its crowded, I can just hop to any other world and continue doing what I was doing.

If they implement a similar system, lag and low FPS shouldn't be a problem.

I am also unsure how Mega-server can act all players from World.... It requires a solitary program to collect hundreds of thousands of players ... or more.. I would be happy if it works fine. Just wait and see in 2013...

maybe it will be many server. but if we make character. it will be registered to all the server and we can play anywhere we want.
and maybe the guild too.

Please correct me if I am wrong!

This is a huge issue for me. I don't think this will create a "better community" at all with the lack of details out there at the moment. In their new video that was released, they say "The game decides where to put you and in what space along with your friends" MEANING which INSTANCE you are put in. (what happens if the instance is full and your friend can't get in)

If any of you played Star Trek Online, the game was essentially this. Multiple instances and was HORRIBLE. Also, It seems like there will be NO server community once so ever. If you are always being placed in random instances with guild or friends, then so is every one else. SO you will always be playing with random players. Think of it as a huge version of LFG/ LFD/ LFR. I hope more details are released on this.
