Orsimer, Male Shaman...

Typically in Orsimer society, a wise female took the healing and spiritual guide role. It seems that Orsimer may be less inclined to use magic, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that we won’t find Orsimer using magic. Given that Orsimer society has a strong tradition of gender equality, would you think that an Orc male who practices magic, or who may fill the role of a tribal shaman, would be ostracized by other Orsimer?

What kinds of limits might there be on an Orsimer’s magical potential?

for one, orcs dont have gender equality. they are ruled by a chief that takes several wifes, kind of how a lion would.

Secondly, orcs are usually not fond of magic for various reasons, mostly it is distrust however. I would not be suprised to see an orc healer upon an orc tribe, however i would not see him as a Shaman, a shaman, for the most part, as a religious figure. And actually shamans have not been mentioned in the elder scrolls lore at all besides a few obscure remarks about the argonians, that probably ties in to earlier sources before their relation with the hist was solidified.

Orcs worship malacath and not much else, and malacath isnt a fan of magic, so i would find it odd to find an Orc that is a shaman.

Regarding gender equality...I will grant you that there is little to no equality among the established positions of leadership within the stronghold. However, from what I understand, those that do not hold leadership positions within the stronghold share responsibility for all the daily activities related to the maintenance of the stronghold. Hunting, gathering, mining, smithing and defending the stronghold are performed by both male and female Orsimer.

I don't know what one would call a Stronghold Orsimer who practices magic. I suppose I was seeking a title for such an Orsimer, but certainly no title is needed. Maybe an Orsimer mage who focuses on destruction magic would simply be a Battlemage? Maybe an Orsimer who uses healing magic would be called a "healer"? You are correct. There isn't much out there related to Orcs and magic.

Regarding the Orsimer worship of Malacath. It's my understanding that Stronghold Orsimer would be the core devotees of Malacath. While Orsimer not part of a stronghold may worship other dieties? Is that likely? Thoughts?

Thanks Sordak!

Orcish equality is mutual understanding between skull bashing. The one who reigns victorious was correct. Then there's the leadership, which is actually extremely male chauvinist. Traditionally, no female is ever to take the chief's position in stronghold, but daily activities are performed by both, yes. In this sense, male shaman wouldn't be surprising. But you should be prepared at the other orcs laughing you for taking up an traditional position that belongs to a female. Also, restoration school, at least in the fourth era is laughed upon. I ain't positive about second era, but from what I've understood, restoration school has never been held in high regard.

And yup, there wouldn't be anything surprising if an Orc would worship other deities than Malacath (or in addition if within a traditional stronghold). But if that said orc is a "destruction school based mage." He may not be respected within the orsimer.

Yeah well... The orsimer you described does not really fit into orc society. But i can imagine an orc growing up in Cyrodiil, Cyrodiilic people are open - minded and friendly.

Well, the Orsimer were once Altmer who worshipped Trinimac. IIRC, the Orsinium Orcs worship Trinimac again (I don't know how in the hell that works), so I'm sure that at least some Orcs worship other deities of the Aldmeri Pantheon.

Found a link regarding Orc shamans on Uespwiki. Not much info on them it seems other than they appeared in Daggerfall. I'd call it enough to make a legit case to allow it with out being to far fetch.

Daggerfall is an outdated source, shamans dont realy fit anywhere in the orcs lore these days.
Also the Orcs do not worship trinimac, you just pieced that info together.
They worshipped what trinimac has become, nameley malacath.

I dont see how the orcs would worship the aldmeri pantheon, beeing forsaken by them.

I'll just say what Bethesda always was proud of: On TES series you can be / do whatever you want. If you want to be a "comon" fella do an Orc like all the other - If you want contrast with them, being an traveler, outcaster, adventurer, you can do what you want. Don't worry about it too much. I'm quite sure members here like Sordak will be able to help you creat a incredible backgound for your character and explain what you can expect from Role Players on TESO.

On Neverwinter Nights 2 there is a Orc Paladin of the Godess of Beauty. That's totally strange - but not impossible. Just have that on mind.

Of course if all player decide to do an orc mage (that should be something "rare") the game will become a mess. But keep the mind open, read the wiki's and have fun respecting the game lore - having fun is the point.

Sordak, do you have a link? Or are you just indicating that you came across content that talks about Orsimer shaman?
