Hey Guys, So I was doing a bit of thinking and thought what if they implemented years into the game. Almost giving the TESO game itself a time line. About a month could be year in game?? or maybe every 3 months would sound better. So when campaigns are completed by a Faction and they take over the Throne it would be listed on your personal timeline of major events that happened. So everyone, depending on their campaign would have their own personal time line and world time line. The world would list the major events like i just said and they can have a personal timeline to show how your character has grown. After years of playing it would be pretty neat to look back and look at your accomplishments/milestones and so forth as well as seeing what happened in your world!

Let me know what you guys think of my idea!

I like the idea, it gives a real sense of accomplishment to your character. I don't know how they'd figure out the ratio of real world:TESO, but that would be awesome. I think it would be cool to open say a tome or book of some sort and flip through the pages having it say something along the lines of
  • (Insert random date) - Acrowe took over (random town) and burned it to the ground.
  • (Insert random date) - Acrowe of the Aldmeri Dominion played a part in gaining the Throne for Queen Ayrenn.
  • (Insert random date) - Long hard battles were had, and the Daggerfall Covenant has seized the Throne of Cyrodiil for themselves, Queen Ayrenn's Aldmeri Dominion must wait try to take it back!

Or something to that effect. Would be neat :)

Definitely sounds interesting... Not sure how hard it would be implement tho.

Like Acrowe said, I would love to pick up a book and it list all of the accomplishment my guild or myself have achieved!!

That would be a pretty good idea as well. Put the timeline into a journal of some sort. Being able to list everything as you progressed through the world. The world would have to go along with your campaign which would seem pretty hard to implement yet I do like the book idea. It would give a sense that your character himself is writing everything down as he goes through his ventures.

The world implementing might be a bit difficult like i just said but yeah i like the book idea too.

The book idea is quite flawed, I admit. But it's a start. You've heard your audience Zeni! We're building you an idea!!

Well what about just a scrolling timeline like I began with? It will just list all the achievements and milestones in order along with dates. I really want to see TESO use the Day/Night system to it's full advantage!

I think that might fit more in line with the achievements page. Instead of being a separate UI, it could simply just be an additive to the achiev UI. A textbook example of a scrolling-timeline on a say.. parchment background would be kinda cool, I admit that. It would be a feat to make a timeline fit like that, but I agree.. Night/Day cycle seems like it could really take this idea places we've not thought of.

Nice one. It would be great if we can "read" our game life.
That will remember you the good and bad times, and keep pushing you to achiev more and more.

I like the idea. Yes, it would give a great feeling, reading your deeds, our your army´s deeds. Perhaps making points for GREATS battles, for example. And considering there will be just one server, is easier .

I'm sure that we'll see some degree of stat tracking; alliance rankings, faction scores per campaign, etc. It isn't difficult to translate stats into lore-friendly material.

As far as time? Maybe, it just comes down to what they want to display to players.

i cannot see this happening realy.
this would realy need a stable increase in content. not to mention they say some parts of the world would unravel if the flu dies down. wich happens about 30 years after the games release time or something.

also if im not mistaken, the single player content is cannonicaly placed before the PvP part (in singleplayer, the imperials are still trying to conquer you, in PvP they have been defeated)

The timing of events will probably go with the release rates of expansions. As Sordak said, the flu dies down a number of years into the conflict and that could definitely be the reasoning behind opening up new areas for each faction to explore.

Thought experiment though... The Interregnum lasts for about 430 years, so your plan of 3 months real time for every year game time would mean we'd finally see Tiber Septim 107 years from now :) They could probably make that a little shorter. One month for every in-game year gives TESO a lifetime of 35 years real time.

Edit: Where the heck did I get 430 years from? It's 270 years. *facepalm* Thanks, umpteen, for reminding me.

A side note about time advancing as we play: a timescale to make the landmass appear larger is a staple of the past three Elder Scrolls games, but is generally not done by MMOs that are building a history. For instance, if TESO uses Skyrim's constant timescale of 20 (one IRL minute is 20 minutes in Tamriel) then the game has about 15 years, during which time 300 years will have passed, after which Cuhlecain and Talos turn up. And if we play for five years, then a whole century of events have occurred in Tamriel during that time. Ergo, using a constant timescale is unlikely to happen in TESO, and they will probably opt for the more familiar but slightly unrealistic MMO strategy of keeping a constant passage of day and night but only actually advancing the date when new content is added.

I think that while it is nice to have a record of what's happened, I think it has to stay within TESO. That is, if events which transpired because of TESO player activity make an appearance in TES VI, then not everyone will be pleased about it. While I or another TESO player might think, "yes, I remember this history, I was there", a TES player who didn't play TESO might think "that's not what I would have done, and if I had played I would have done things differently". They might feel cheated, because that would be the first time in the Elder Scrolls storyline that another player rather than a developer had decided the history of the world for them.

Certainly big events in TESO need to be recorded. But remember, the Interregnum is a dark period, from which almost all history is lost. It may be that everything we do and achieve is just a transcription error from whoever records the events.

Well to respond to you and everyone, I merely thought of the time being an extra addition to the world. It would be really hard to balance it with events that happened in the world already. But we decide our future so maybe this could be an alternate reality we're creating. Since every campaign is doing something different, alternate future events are bound to happen. I was just focusing on the timeline for the most part. I'm glad a lot of people like the idea :D

In most RPG games you haw journal that keeps track of quests that you complete, and those that you still haw to do. I wish that instead of simply keeping track of quests, they would made it so that it would be your own character story line. Ex: 2ExxD Ewan saved scared damsel from a pack of wolfs, 2ExyD Ewan joined Cyrodil battle at conquest of Anvil, 2ExzD Ewan joined group of heroes and cleansed hunted crypt.
Not only it would list completed quests in story like faction but also achievements and pvp participation. Later on i wish there would be addon on some cite were you could look at other people journal to see Friends progress or rival achievements.
