My only experience with PVP was Ultima Online when the only facet was Felucca. I heard horror stories about players ganking newbies just for fun. I didn't subscribe until they opened up Trammel. Clearly most players felt the way I did because about 90% of them migrated to Trammel.

Although I have played many MMORPGs, never have I been involved in PVP.

I suspect that PVP has changed a lot since the UO Felucca days--can someone, who is familiar with Felucca and modern PVPing clarifying things for me.

Also, if they is any information available about PVP in TESO, I'd appreciate a brief summary.

play gw2 eso will be like that except u will have mounts.. if u like running in big zergs outnumbering people then the pvp will suit u.

there are like side quests u can solo..there are group quests to retake or defend resource ares like mills/farms..there are bigger group raids on keeps and castles..each to their own and all will help your faction..

one thing beware of opposing faction zerg groups lol

beware of posters that dont know what they are talking about more to the poiint.

ok for starts forget everything from UO it wont be anything like that. it will be in a central zone with 3 factions fighting over keeps and little instalments. You probably havent played daoc but if you realy wanna know how its most likeley going to be take a look at that game.

one thing i can tell you for sure is tho that it wont be a gankfest, since its for the most part a PvP only zone.

In TESO, there's no PvP beyond Cyrodiil where you can start at level 10. You are safe in the faction locked areas, where you have content to level 50 and even beyond. In Cyrodiil you have both RvR targets in the campaign to claim the position of Emperor to your faction and "normal" quests you can do but where you are in danger of getting ganked.

If you want a little taste of what it could be at Cyrodiil, the sadly flopped RvR MMO WAR has an endless free trial that encapsulates the lower level. It will be much more complicated and more populated at Cyrodiil.

My personal experience with PvP is with WoW and Runescape. I'm curious to see how damage will scale and how they will compensate for small time fights and wars. With 200 people on screen at one time it could be a catastrophe or simply amazing. They need a good balance so people aren't getting steam rolled in massive PvP and so that small time pvp isn't drawn out.

On track with the OP to answer how PvP is in current MMO's. My experience is with WoW so I will be referring to it. This mmo takes the stance of creating pressure through means of damage and utilizing CC(Crowd Control abilities). This means silencing casters so they are unable to cast, stuns, and various disorient type of effects. The gist of their combat style is setting up kills by preventing heals, damge, etc and to use the same abilities in order to peel when you're getting pressured. These abilities have cool downs and its all about timing and smart usage.

Lucky for you and me this is all going to be different in TESO! TESO's stance is utilizing less action bars by only giving you 6 abilities and a potion action bar slot. This game's stance is they don't want you to lose control of your character for days and they don't believe it is a fun concept(I agree). This game will be more innovative where you will be more aware of whats going on rather than staring at your action bars. Also, you will have to manually block like skyrim(most recent ES's game). In summary this game will be more real time and will you feel immersed into their world and combat.

THANK YOU for the most informative answers. It makes sense to me now. I couldn't understand the popularity of many of today's (PVP) games when contrasted with the mass exodus from Felucca in UO.

I am a great fan of the ES series and am looking forward to the online version.

I'm hoping for the glorious raid days of Shadowbane. I think that the 3 way faction war is great and hope that the map conquest areas are constantly changing; so you have to consult daily to see where it is safe for you to go.

TESO - - Multiplayer: "M'aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you." M'aiq the Liar.

"Va Khaj Dar - Khajiity's united? M'aiq will join!" M'aiq the Liar

Back to the OP. One of the big RvR games i used play was, Aika, and from time to time i would go into low level areas, Aika didnt have non PvP zone (although they did have a second non pvp server you could grind in), mostly to cause a fuss and distraction while we ninja'd a relic or ambushed the "hero's" that showed up. In Aika you got honor for pvp kills, but if they were lower then you you got no honor, so no point to it.

Same with rappelz actually, the best place to set up pvp Ambushes were in low level area's.

but, back to the point, it wasn't so much about killing newbies, as it was about setting up traps, and distractions.

Then close your f#$kin' store, 'cause being ready for me'll take care of your wakin' hours, and you'd better have someone to hand the task off to when you close your f$#kin' eyes
