Hello All,

My name is American or Avron (depends on which game im playing). I'm the GM and leader of a clan, The LEGION Gaming.

We intend to play TESO after watching the incredible introduction video released earlier this month.

A number of our players (currently in WoW, EQ2, and TERA) have played some of the Elder Scrolls games, but I have not.

Can someone give me a run down of each pact, their pros/cons, and a bit more about their lore?

I've looked the brief descriptions, but I am still lost here.

Any help is appreciated.

Faction & Race:
Ebonheart Pact (Dunmer)
There is no currently any information available whether there's absolutely any difference between the pacts. Exception being their zones, storylines, races (no stat differences are known), and their "starting locations" in Cyrodil (PvP zone).

So, take a pick on which you like.

Ebonheart Pact (Argonian)

what do you mean by pact? You mean the factions?
Well first off, if thats what you meant anyway, i wouldnt say there are downsides to any of them. Lore wise the Ebonheart Pact and the Aldmeri Dominion will be alot more interresting than the Daggerfall Covenant im afraid. But apart from that.

I guess its a bit of segragation of the playerbase. Is your Guild into Elder Scrolls?
From what it seems to be now, the Ebonheart Pact will be overrun with Elder Scrolls fans, currently topping most polls on all elderscrolls boards. This is for the most part because they feature the 3 all time top ranked races on all the polls. And also the land of Morrowind wich is from the, for the large majority of the vocal TES fans, most beloved game of the series.

However with many people that are not into elder scrolls, those will probably find most comfort in the Daggerfall Covenant, beeing the most traditional fantasy faction and its consisitng of Humans and Orcs. More specificaly The Bretons (humans with elven lineage, they are the most medieval, typically fantasy humans) the redguard (arab inspired desert warriors) and the orcs (who in this game are cursed elves)

The Ebonheart Pact consists of the Nord (think Vikings or Conan or something along those lines) the Dunmer (Racist Elves that have been cursed for their heroes taking over the powers of a dead god, becoming dark elves) and the Argonians (Lizards that have been turned into Humanoid Creatures by the Hist, those are essentialy sentient trees)

The last Faction is the Aldmeri Dominion. Its a mixed bag here. I guess they will be liked for very different reasons. On one hand they have 2 elven races. The Altmer (wich are even more racist high elves that believe they should rule for they are the oldest race) and the Bosmer (wich are cannibal wood elves that eat only meat due to a pact with the forest) and then they also got the Kahjiit (Cat people that are prone to drug abuse and are tied to the two moons) I guess they will have quite a few furries in there.

When it comes to the lore. Tell me how much you know first. if you are completeley new to TES that might take a while.
But this forum is HEAVILY lore influenced. i doubt there is any information that you cannot get here.

while youre at it you could read the FAQ at tamriel foundry.

Aldmeri Dominion (Khajiit)
Hiya Avron, glad to meet you! Others can probably explain it alot better than me .. but I'll give it a shot briefly.

Cyrodiil is the center of the continent of Tamriel, where the Ruby Throne is the 3 factions will be fighting to win control of and where the Empire usually is located.

The south-western faction, the Aldmeri Dominion is made up of Altmers/High Elves in Summerset Isles, Bosmers/Wood Elves in Valenwood and Khajiit/Catlike People in Elsweyr. They believe the throne is theirs by rights since the Aldmer/Altmer were the first conquerors of Tamriel.

The north-eastern faction, the Daggerfall Covenant is comprised of Bretons in High Rock, Redguard in Hammerfell and Orcs in Orsinium mountains. These are your business people. They have banded together for profitable trade and they are fighting to keep their profit margins up.

The eastern faction, the Ebonhart Pact has Nords from Skyrim, Dunmer/Dark Elves from Morrowind and Argonians/Lizardlike People from Black Marsh. These guys were attacked by some powerful monsterish people from a continent to the East called Akivar and so they formed a united front to repel the Akiavari even though they all hate each other.

The 3 factions will be restricted to their own areas except in the middle, Cyrodiil, which is PVP and Faction vrs. Faction to gain control of the Ruby Throne. An ingame player can be crowned Emperor upon his/her faction winning the throne.

Guess that sums it up. But The Elder Scrolls lore is so rich and has been going on since 1994 through 5 continuous games plus a multitude of side games based on the world of Tamriel. I think you will enjoy it very much.
I have played WoW and EQ2 and all the TES games in the continuem.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said above! Sordak gave a much better explanation than me, I didn't know if he was on now.

I just wanted to refer you to these websites in case you feel like delving more into The Elder Scrolls lore:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_E...rolls_Wiki

I feel I should warn you. There is a lot of lore in Elder Scrolls. The online game will take place 1000 years before the events depicted in TES: Skyrim, just to give you an idea of the time frame.

Wow - thanks for the explanation and links. I'm assuming that each faction will be able to play all classes?

It seems Daggerfall Covenant will have the least population (looking at polls on two sites) - perhaps we'll make our home there.

Looks great! I've never played a single TES game - so this is all new - im just looking for a good background. We're pretty hardcore MMO gamers.

I'm not familiar with Legion and have been playing WoW for over 5 years now. Are you guys ranked at all? I tend to follow Method/paragon and a few others, but I should probably look you guys up ^_^.

Also, if you have a computer that can run it (it has issues with some modern systems) I'd highly recommend starting with Morrowind. If you've got a windows 98 or older system (it doesn't work well with DosBox) I'd highly recommend also playing Arena.

Of course if you don't care too much about where the game came from playing Skyrim gives you a perfectly good look at what the series is like now. Its an amazing game and I'm still playing it today (bought it on release day over a year ago).

Do you really find it necessary to put that "signature" at the bottom of every single post? ... I mean, really?
