Settlement RP discussion thread

So recently in the Thu'um box as some may know the proposition of a settlement RP came up which will be set either twenty or so years after the war or in the early first era (in which case no one will be allowed to use a char with the same name as your ESO one, there is no chance he/she would be alive). Also keep in mind the time and nature of the RP, if your char is a complete warrior he/she would need a decent reason to settle an area with others.

Another thing that should be discussed is how all the chars met and why they decided to settle the area.

Also note the various occupations that will need to be filled, farmer(s) of some sort, masons and a tavern owner or store owner of some sort, and no settlement needs a dozen guards so I will say right now that no one (at least no more than three people) can be a guard otherwise I'm afraid the amount of security may make it look like the chars are building a fort.

I would be interested to hear peoples opinions about this.

Also I estimate that this RP will be up in maybe a week give or take a few days.

So far this much has been decided on:

The RP will be set around 4E 75 so you will need to post a brief bio for a new char here.

The settlement shall be in the southernmost part of the karth river canyon south-west from Markarth by a rich mine.

Roster:

Myself - Durakach "Drake", mead hall leader/brewmaster. + Optimus Julius Maximus, land owner and "commissioner" of settlement.

Ragnar Ice-Blood - Ragnar IX, blacksmith/hunter.

Rofl... - Cyngawr the unforgiving, miner.

Ulwe - Gerich Longus (possibly + wife), innkeeper.

Ri'Do'Ja - Toldis Grey-Hilt, general store owner + Ortys Wotrlis, bard.

Sarin Strdr - Sampson Winterstead, farmer.

Iamme123 - Mazorn, builder/mason.

Nikura - Finya Ice-Eyes, alchemist.

Iogairn - char and occupation to come later.

Occupations:

More on this subject will come later though there is no limit to the amount of miners and farmers and maybe two to four more hunters, more information to come soon.

Do we know where this settlement is? Cyrodiil perhaps so that we ca get all types of races perhaps? or do we want to stick witha specifica race?

‎I must not fear. Fear is the mid-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total annihilation. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

The location is one of the things that will be discussed here. Personally I feel that Cyrodiil is overused and it's not by any means neutral ground, I was thinking perhaps somewhere in High Rock though Cyrodiil is a possibility.

And no there should be no all one race.

I think for this RP it's important to consider what the bulk of interactions and forum posts between players will be. Participants should consider whether this settlement is truly something they can enjoy themselves in. For example, if someone plays a character who is a farmer, how can they have the character be interesting or interacting with others for the duration of the RP? How would they fit in the scheme of things, and would be a role fun enough to play?

Issues like this, among many others, should be considered before investing yourselves into this idea. I wish you good luck though nonetheless!

Thank you for the luck HS, I believe that this RP will take place during the construction sort of phase though but we will indeed try and work out those details before hand, like I said this RP still needs a lot of stuff worked out and is a rather "young" idea at the moment.

Possibly though I'd prefer this to be on the mainland of Tamriel besides for all we know that island could simply be a bunch of rocks and trees, keep in mind the type of area that would be good for a settlement.

Yea, I realized that after I posted it, maybe on the border of High Rock and Skyrim

It could be somewhere hard to settle. Like the reach for example, the reachmen would hate people trying take their land. I'd help keep things interesting. Maybe the rp could end with the settlement finished and a large group of reachmen attack it and every inhabitant has to pull their weight: smiths would have to work for free, farmers would need to stockpile food etc... Just an idea.

But why would they try to be settling such a difficult place though? the Reach would make an interesting place though.

Perhaps they want to tap into the massive silver deposits that could make them rich

that is a good idea many towns are formed on gold rushes why not silver rush though many towns are formed for military reasons like my home town (air base) Morvus is most likely alive though pretty young I won`t be using him though so point is irrelevant.

If it was a border town then there would probably be a fort near, especially if there was silver or gold or pretty much any ores, so we could have more guards and "town elders" and have NPC's as farmers.

Maybe a mining village in the Karth River canyon a bit south-east of Markarth? there seems to be an island in the middle of the river at that point that could be suitable for a settlement. Though if we did that we would have to have a bridge of sorts spanning the river and part of the village on either side for farming and such.

No I don't think having a nearby fort would be a good idea, it would add too much of a military presence and if they knew there were precious metals nearby why wouldn't they mine them themselves?

What I think we need to decide on soon is when the RP will take place, either twenty or so years after the war for the ruby throne or in the early fourth era like 4E 75, it cannot take place any earlier or later than that.

I think after the war would be good. Everyone's tired of fighting and they just want to get rich and live peacefully while doing so.
