My dear mother,

Another day, another sandstorm. I'm currently waiting for the gates to open, for the guards to tell travellers it is safe. I have half a mind to climb the wall and look upon nature's wrath myself – there is no sight like the sand dancing with the winds of Tava – but I wanted to write you first.

How do you fare, mother? Is Nazeem still aspiring to be a sailor? Does T'meenah still dance like she used to do with me, during all those slow afternoons in the garden? And how is father? Despite everything, I miss him. You know that. I hope he knows.

I'm not sure where I will go next, mother. There is an Order stationed outside Sentinel, and I might ask for an audience with the man who is in charge. Would it make you feel better, mother? If I chose to be among others, doing what I do, instead of on my own, lost in the dunes of Alik'r?

There is a lady down this street who is selling the most exquisite silk. You would love her work, and I wish I could send you a sample. I think of you, a lot. Of you, father, T'meenah, Nazeem, Bahral, Har'ib and little Sah'rel. No matter where I roam, mother, and no matter what fate bestows upon me, you will always be my family.

Your daughter,

Sahar

“It should be over soon.”
Sahar looked up from her parchment as the grey lady poured more honeyed tea into her cup. She grinned at her, gaps showing where once were teeth. Sahar smiled in return. “I still want to look, so I best hurry. I'll take this with me, Yuna. You know I'd never pass up on it.” She winked as she picked up the tin cup, swirling the tea inside of it lightly. The old lady winked back, a brown eye hidden in the creased lid, wrinkled of age. Sahar adored this woman. She then looked at the parchment again, and folded it neatly, again and again, until it was but a small square between her painted fingers. Sahar stifled a soft sigh, and then opened the small leather bag on her hip. Delicately, she shoved the letter in, giving it a place among the others. The old woman boiled more water over a small fire, and gave her a warm, yet saddened glance.
“How many are in there by now, little Sahar?”
Sahar stood up briskly and closed the bag, fastening the bronze clasp. More than ever, she felt the need to look at that sandstorm, to be overwhelmed by what the forces of this world could do, and by realizing how small they all were, mere little beings under the open sky. She would not feel the weight of the bag in that moment.

“Seventy-three.”

Adding as much to the mystery as it is clarifying. Maybe even more :p
Intriguing.

Awesome as always, Sahar. Short like you said, but it doesn't need to be any longer.

I know that Feeling... it´s hard to not exceed and still giving an atmospheric description...

Anyway, well written. Is 73 the current number of Kynaran order´s members?

Who knocked Yokuda off the maps?

Thanks Idriar! Haha, that would have been a cool easter egg, but no. It's simply the number of letters she wrote to her family over the years, yet never sent.

A very melancholy tale to read, but that's how it is with unsent letters whether it's in the the world of the Elder Scrolls or otherwise. There's something very somber about them. They embody one's feelings, thoughts, and all the words they want to say, but for one reason or another they never reach their intended recipient. Then they simply are lost or forgotten.

It seemed all cheerful and heartwarming at the start; Sahar wondering how her loved ones are, and expressing how much she misses them. You would think she has likely written many similar letters, and that she always keeps in touch with her family no matter where she may be. And then it's revealed that she hasn't sent a single one.

Melancholy indeed.

Character Profiles:
Endaros Ilmori - Buoyant Armiger
Sunrio - Aldmeri Justiciar

Taren Jucanis - Imperial Deserter (Used for The Black Shroud RP)

Thanks for reading Horizon <3

Yeah, that bag of letters is a sharp contrast with the woman who to the outside world is always warm, charming and charismatic. You can bet the other seventy-two are much like the one written here.

What keeps her from sending them, well, that's the mystery for now ;)
