About The Aetherwolves
Main
[Image: v80sg5.jpg]

RUNNING WITH THE PACK:

We are a small band of men and women that enjoy MMOs. We prefer a flat and chaotic guild hierarchy with no ranks, seniority, or authority. We behave like mercenaries and do whatever strikes our fancy at any given moment. We play many games and wear many hats. We are often dirty mouthed, foul, and shameful in our conversations and conduct. We have been known to drink copious amounts of alcohol while playing games. We dish out a lot of shit but can also take it. If you assimilate into our society, you will be a [WOLF] for life (*chants* one of us.... one of us... one of us...).

REQUIREMENTS:

-Sarcasm
-Backbone

RECOMMENDED:

-Dry Humor
-Facial Hair

WHAT WOLVES DO:

-Kill

WHAT WOLVES DO NOT DO:

-Talk about feelings

HOW TO JOIN:

We don't recruit from boards. After the game or BETA goes live, drop us a line and we will sniff you out. Alternatively, a few of our members play Planetside 2 (USA:E Soltech, NC). If you like FPS you can come kill some fools with us while we wait for TESO.

FAQ:

Q: Do you feel like assholes for congregating in such a manner?

A: No. We do not apologize for our enlightenment.

Q: Isn't it hard to get things accomplished with your type of guild?

A: Our guild works hard and plays hard. Most of our members have over 10 years + of mmo experience including EQ, EQ2, WOW, SWG, PS, PS2, VANGUARD, AOC, SWTOR, GW, GW2, DDO, and EVE. We also have extensive RTS, FPS, and Hack and Slash backgrounds. We are fully enlightened individuals who are highly skilled at games but don't care about accomplishment/achievement. We play games to experience mechanics/content, enjoy camaraderie, and compete against other players.

Q: Does your guild take TES seriously?

A: Yes. Our members have played all of the games in the Elder Scrolls series and Fallout series. We worship Bethesda.

Q: Do you guys operate like a normal guild?

A: No. We do not require members to wear our guild tag. We do not require members to be exclusively in our guild. Remember, we are mercenaries.

Q: If a member doesn't have to be tagged, how do you communicate?

A: Members of our guild are close. We text, skype, vent, TS, mumble, google hangout, etc.

Q: Isn't this lack of organization a weakness?

A: No; it is a strength. No red tape, bureaucracy, or bullshit. We prefer to spend our time gaming, not managing media.

Q: Are there guidelines that must be followed to remain in the guild?

A: No.

Q: Rules of Conduct?

A: No.

Q: Is it possible to get kicked out of the guild?

A: Maybe; we are mercenaries.

Q: What does an ideal [WOLF] look like?

A: 21+ year old that succumbs to vices, is an armchair philosopher, may or may not have facial hair based on sex, but if they do, is old world distinguished and not creepy, unless it is extremely creepy like a pencil thin mustache. This individual would be able to perform in the top 10 percent of gamers, being incredibly sarcastic and or flamboyant, possessing a legendarily thick skin, and amazingly dry sense of humor. They would regale other members with inappropriate jokes and banter, some of which must be based on real life experience, and never be self effacing. He or she would show competency in nerd trivia, being able to recognize quotes such as "sweep the leg" and "I feel the need, the need for speed!". This person would likely own all three seasons of Kung Fu.

We will have more information when BETA starts up. If you want to hone your [WOLF] spirit in the mean time, I suggest watching a few Rutgar Hauer films; perhaps Blind Fury or Hobo with a Shotgun. I would pair their viewing with a cheap IPA.

Also, if you don't already possess some sort of facial hair, I would look into supplements/herbal alternatives.

If you are bored waiting for the game to come out, try Planetside 2. It is free to play and you can kill some jabronies with us while you wait.

Sincerely,

The Aetherwolves

You guys should check out No Retreat, No Surrender with Van Damme as a guild. Great bromance movie, best watched with as much alchohal as possible.

You are well read in the art of manliness. That is one of our favorite martial art films, though, anything with Van Damme is considered canon.

Concerning Bromance, we watch Star Trek the original series as a guild to study the potency of male relationships. Our members are expected to be able to recognize Star Trek episodes by name and employ their tactical significance in combat situations. For example, using the Corbomite Maneuver.

Classic Choice. Indeed, this is how many of our nights go down. If a [wolf] practices hard, one day he might be able to do this:

The Way of the [Wolf] Episode I: We Have Chaos And So Can You.

One of our strongest convictions in MMOs is a flat guild hierarchy. In The Aetherwolves, a new member has as much authority as anyone. This developed over time, where we found individuals excelled when unfettered by: (1) excessive pomp and circumstance, (2) top-down politics, (3) already established cliques compounded by rank, (4) oppressive authority, and (5) rank progression.

No Excessive Pomp and Circumstance

Becoming a [Wolf] requires no ceremony. A [Wolf] is going to do a lot of horrendous things--some of which may be considered taboo by the gaming culture at large--and we refuse to celebrate our genius through ritual. A [Wolf] symbolizes the predatory, feral, and cunning. We sometimes run in a pack, or lone. Knowing this symbol is knowing The Aetherwolves.

No Top-Down Politics / Oppressive Authority

In a guild where rank is based on seniority or merit, individuals that obtain power don't relinquish it. In these guilds, individuals without power are forced to pander to the leading class. A [Wolf] does not pander. In The Aetherwolves, when disagreement arises, and two people wish to sway other's opinions in the guild, it is up to them personally to garner support. There is no handbook passage or special rule. No arbitration or designated decider. Personally, I prefer to use force of strength, defeating my ideological rival in tests of skill. There have been eras of MMOs past where a night has been decided by a duel. Others trade favors. Some appeal with reason. Individuals are never told what to do. If everybody in the guild wanted to do something except for you, they have no authority to make you do it. There are no punishments awaiting the disobedient. We are mercenaries and behave as such.

No Cliques

There is nothing more discouraging in a guild than when you are excluded by individuals that have formed a clique. These guilds within a guild are for the weak. Neutrality in company is for the strong. It is for the [Wolf].

No Ranks

Achievements are gold stars that middle aged women put on the shirts of children in grade school. They serve as arbitrary recognition of something a person achieved without direct competition. Wolves don't care about gold stars, we care about trophies. A trophy is something that is taken by force over an opponent. If something is given to a [Wolf], he discards it. This nature of conflict makes ranks frivolous, for we do not take ranks, they are given. The [Wolf] should bask in the glory of his brotherhood. Mercenaries do not care about other's achievements; they simply live by the sword.

I'll be doing periodic updates on this page. Other than that, a few of us are playing Planetside 2 while we wait. Anybody interested is more than welcome to hit us up for some outfit action.

Our recruitment is pretty simple. If you want to be a [Wolf], ask one of our members after Beta and you will be invited. No bullshit, no hassle.

We've been using skype a lot for communication but I will be getting vent up soon for TESO. Once our server is up, I'll be posting vent information here so people can jump on and talk with us.

Until then, if people have questions about the guild or just want to shoot the shit, we can have some back and forth here.

Sincerely,

The Aetherwolves

Represent. I am near bald myself from having such a high level of testosterone. It is a good look for truly masculine men.

We are in the process of transitioning over to vent. I will be posting public information in this thread ASAP for interested parties and uninterested trolls.

Sincerely,

The Way of the [Wolf] Episode 2: Killing Like a [Wolf]

Wolves like to fight and kill. We fight and kill our enemies and each other. Our philosophy is simple; be competitive. This means taking a beating from time to time. Nobody ever got good from the sideline. [Wolves] tend to be hyper aggressive in PvP. Our pack's vast experience of combat across a wide variety of games allows us to operate like cool customers.

Cool Customers:
Fight for the sake of fighting
Don't care about winning or losing
Honestly weigh themselves against others
Accept victory and defeat

Cool Customers DO NOT:
Act like they are above losing
Theorycraft their worth when it can be weighed by the sword
Make excuses for defeat
Turn down fights to save face

[Wolf] as a Predator:

Most of our players are 2200+ WoW arena vets and diamond or higher Starcraft 2 players, as well as being versed and competitive in most modern fps, strategy, and PvP games. A [Wolf] is wired for a good fight. My roommate and I keep foils and boxing gloves in our apartment and fight till first blood over who has to take out the trash. We PK at weekly encounter D&D. Every night after grooming my facial hair, I drink a nice dark lager and watch FRAPS replays of my losses. I study every move like I'm a pilot at Top Gun. A [Wolf] has to be predatory, and that means cunning.

Wolf v. Wolf

A big part of Aetherwolf culture has been the mercenary tradition of dueling each other. [Wolves] like to sharpen their skills on other [Wolves]. Many of our members prefer to settle disagreements by force. What is taken by the sword can be regained by the sword.

Instructional Videos:

Below is a list of educational films for individuals seeking the fighting skills of the [Wolf]:

The Dollar Trilogy (Clint Eastwood)
Dirty Harry Series (Clint Eastwood)
Unforgiven (Clint Eastwood)
Navajo Joe
Rocky I-IV, VI (Not V; Tommy Gun is for jibronies).
Rambo I-IV
Judge Dread
Demolition Man
Conan the Barbarian (Arnold Version)
Red Sonja
Terminator 1 and 2
Sixth Day
Total Recall
True Lies
Predator 1,2, AVP, AVP:R, Predators
Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection
Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill V1, Kill Bill V2, Inglorious Basterds
Snatch
Evil Dead III: Army of Darkness
Blood Sport
Pumping Iron and Raw Iron: The Making of Pumping Iron
The Complete Bruce Lee Filmography
The Count of Monte Cristo (All Three Versions)
Gladiator
Thirteenth Warrior
Braveheart
The Patriot
Escape from New York
Escape from L.A.
Mad Max
Top Gun
Band of Brothers
The Highlander Series (Christopher Lambert)
The Way of the Gun

This is just a novice training program, but enough to get you well on your way to becoming a [Wolf].
