I decided to start this thread up as a curiosity to see if there is anyone else out there who plays table top games. This ranges from the obvious D&D forgotten realms to Ravenloft, Darksun, Eberron, Dragonlance, Etc. Maybe even not any of these games are the ones that you played maybe it was Gamma World or Cyberpunk who knows what the game was or how you got into it, and that is what this thread is for.

I wanted to start this so people could discuss and talk about their favorite stories from a game or their favorite game in general. Whether it be for novels or actual sessions with friends it matters not. Also this is a thread to welcome questions from anyone who has ever had interest and perhaps has yet to play or get into the settings of such games.

Welcome to The Empty Keg.

To be honest, I've never really tried any D&D board games. I've played very specific board games like 'Infiltration' and 'Arkham Horror' but, while they were in a different kind of world, they weren't really RPs and the whole 'exploring' thing didn't really come into it. I suppose the closest I've come to one of those is 'Mageknight' which I really enjoyed. I suppose I don't really have the friends who would do it (it's kind of been demonised as being 'nerdy' which I find pretty shocking) or the money to buy one.
Are there any 'low-fantasy' tabletop games around?

lol Ri I don't know what your way of playing monopoly is, but I can't wait to hear it.

As for you Iogairn ummm there is a lot of low fantasy settings and to be honest you can cater some games to juts be more low fantasy with more restrictions less magic etc. its just a house rule thing the games are very loose in the way they work and though the setting is defined you are able to alter it in any manner you see fit.

By low fantasy what exactly do you mean would be the better question? Do you mean not so magical and fantastic as say WoW and said things or do you mean low fantasy as in gritty and realistic. Basically Witcher is low fantasy as is Game of Thrones, but even in that variation there is some huge differences. On a side note there is a GoT table top game.

My version of Monopoly is just like real world big business, operating in bad faith, manipulating people, flipping the board when you lose, and the most important...*drumroll*... THE PERSON WHO CHEATS THE MOST WITHOUT GETTING CAUGHT WINS!

I'm going to confess my ignorance and say I've never played Witcher. I keep on meaning to save up the money for it but I never quite get there before something else takes my eye. It's quite a lot of money for a game I may not enjoy. Although, I took the risk for Dragon Age, and that's probably one of my favourite games, so I may purchase it in time...

Probably less magic and wonder. I like the dark and grittiness of Game of Thrones, but I also like the historical, not much magic or different races part of it as well. So yeah, I'm going to go with the realness. Hey, there aren't any historical RPs, are there?

As for Monopoly, I'm afraid that I tend to ruin it by constantly calling in the Unions...

Yes there actually are a few historical RPs though they are kind of most of the time alternate history with familiar figures, but allowing freedom to change the outcomes I can't think of the names as of now, but again there is a full fledged GoT table top game that is actually rather interesting and pretty damn good and incorporates many elements of the series and really emphasizes multiple styles of play including intrigue.

Witcher is great and all I can say is get it if you have a computer that can run it get it on http://www.gog.com/ drm free and pretty damn cheap it goes on special regularly as low as five dollars for the first one and 10 dollars for the second one though right now I think it is 15-20 for the second one which is the one you should buy for sure!!!

I mean it buy it now or I have to refuse talking to you lol.

Haha, OK, I'll buy it! Please don't kill me!

I'm actually getting the GoT board game for Christmas (I laid very VERY strong hints for it, especially as I don't really want anything else). I've heard good things about it, and since my friends either love board games, or love Game of Thrones, it appeals to both sets :D
Just...sate my curiousity here...there aren't any Elder Scrolls board games are there?

There is, but they arguably pretty poorly done...basically they were a crappy cash in.

Yea GoT has a table top rpg it has a strategy game and a few other games as well quite the variety and all of them are pretty damn good actually minus the video game...which was great story and bad everything else.
