To Kill a Minotaur
The Wandering Warrior

The warm sands of Elsweyr thinned beneath his feet, slowly turning to grass. Grass! Yes there would be more changes, many that are more dramatic than grass, for the warrior to endure in his flight from Elsweyr. The Knahaten Flu was quickly sweeping it's way across the province, forcing many Khajiit to abandon their homes or face certain infection. Among those who were leaving was Do'Shanji. A mighty warrior of the Elsweyr army, the Cathay stood tall as he neared Cyrodiil. A small sign at the side of the road indicated the border between the two territories. Do'Shanji sighed and took a step into Cyrodiil, then turned around to take a long look at his homeland. A single tear rolled down his cheek as he beheld the beauty one last time, not knowing when, if ever, he would return.

Riverhold was now several hours behind as Do'Shanji kept a swift pace. For now he traveled the road, not exactly sure where he was going. At this point, he could really care less where he went, for nowhere else would bring him the comfort of home. After aimlessly wandering along the road for a good part of the day, Do'Shanji left the winding path for a quick breather.

Not far from the path was a fallen tree. Do'Shanji sat on the old tree and buried his face in his hands, with elbows resting on his knees. Here sat a warrior who had survived many a battle, but could not escape the trials of homesickness. The fact that he was completely alone only made things worse. There was no family for him, they had abandoned him long ago. Master Do'Rahka was the closest thing he had to a friend, and he had stayed behind in Orcrest. Do'Shanji looked up into the sky, pleading with Alkosh to return him to Elsweyr, but there was only silence. It was a peaceful silence though, and Do'Shanji drifted off into a light sleep. Not necessarily due to weariness, but a lack of conviction to continue his journey.

The peaceful air of the valley lasted for a few hours, but was sharply and suddenly shattered. An ear piercing roar boomed through the valley. Birds flew from the trees and critters ran for the distance at the noise. Do'Shanji himself was taken quite by surprise since he had been napping. He jolted up into a sitting position and quickly rubbed his eyes as they adjusted to the light. Angry with his own foolishness, Do'Shanji quickly gathered up his sword and shield. He jumped onto a nearby rock to survey the area, trying to spot where the noise had come from. All that he could see was the same rolling green landscape that surrounded the whole area.

Not knowing exactly what to expect, Do'Shanji continued to wander in the direction where he thought the noise came from. The strong warrior was not afraid of running into trouble, and in fact he would welcome the chance to bash some skulls in at the moment. It would serve well to take his mind off home at least. After a short while of walking, Do'Shanji would hear another raging shout, this time it was very close. Do'Shanji topped a nearby hill and saw the beaming white Ayleid ruins. Their stone walls reflected the sunlight back towards the warrior, impeding his view. However he was able to make out two figures that seemed to be locked in battle.

It did not take long for his sharp vision to adjust to the brightness of the ruins, and soon Do'Shanji was able to make out the two figures. One a massive Minotaur lord that stood at least a foot taller and must have packed at least a few hundred more pounds of muscle than himself. It carried a massive black war hammer that must have weighed a great deal itself. The other was a Khajiit! Yes it was a fellow Khajiit who was daring enough to take on such an opponent. Do'Shanji smiled at the strength of his people, but soon realized that this Khajiit was not about to kill the Minotaur, but rather was about to be killed! I may have been forced out of Elsweyr but that will not stop me from remaining true to my duties to the people of Elsweyr! Do'Shanji's thoughts set his body into motion. Long strides carried him swiftly across the field towards the beast, but he was not fast enough, the beast was already raising the massive hammer up to finish his kinsman off. Do'Shanji pushed his body to the extreme, extracting every ounce of speed he could get. So hard were his feet striking the ground, that chunks of sod flew up after every step. The hammer was falling now. Do'Shanji was so close. He left his feet, lunging through the air with his shield held out in front of him.

The Minotaur never saw the warrior coming. As it swung the hammer down on Fa'dul, Do'Shanji crashed into the weapon, shield first. There was a loud metallic clash that reverberated around the ruins and valley. The Minotaur, great of stature as he was, toppled over to the ground from the impact of such force. Do'Shanji too, went flying forward, landing near the Minotaur. The Minotaur was enraged by the assault and grasped for it's assailant, ignoring the hammer for the moment. Do'Shanji scrambled away from the reach of the creature just in time. He looked back at the beast who now turned to grab the deadly hammer. It was slowly regaining it's footing as well. The Cathay quickly raised himself to his feet and looked over at the other Khajiit.

“Can't you see he's not dead? GET UP!”

Still Fa'dul did not move. Do'Shanji shook his head but said no more, as a shadow loomed over his head. He quickly turned around to see that the Minotaur was now directly facing him, hammer in a raise hand. There was no time to react, the blow impacted heavily with Do'Shanji's side. This time the armor native to Elsweyr would stand the test, but Do'Shanji was knocked backwards from the force of the swing. The beast swung the mace back the other way now, connecting with Do'Shanji's leg. The Minotaur now circled back to Fa'dul, hoping to end the ranger while he remained vulnerable. Do'Shanji yelled at the immobile Khajiit once more.

“Up! UP! GET UP DAMNIT!”

Do'Shanji tried to get up to attack the creature once more, but sharp jolts of pain shot up from the leg that had been hit. Do'Shanji clutched his leg in agony and fell back over. He helplessly watched as the Minotaur neared Fa'dul. The ranger, who had taken quite a hit from the mace considering the light quality of his armor, still struggled to stand up. It appeared that Do'Shanji would not be able to save him after all. The warrior let out a cry of frustration and slammed his fists into the grass, ripping fist-fulls of the plants out.

Thanks for the reads, it does seem to make it more fun to write knowing that there are people waiting for the next part!

@Do'Rakk I think there will only be one more chapter....Maybe a conclusion piece, we'll see. Hopefully I can spare you a few more keyboards anyways lol.
