Vampire and Werewolf Ability Speculation

Now continuing on with the various discussions about about our furry and sinister friends inspired by our look at werewolves recently I'm going to speculate what abilities and passives we may be given.

Lets start with the vampire. Now I personally love how vampires are portrayed in TES - sinister, calculating and very powerful. I will most certainly look into being one if I like their abilities as my character suits the vampire very well being all of the things previously mentioned, or at least I'll try to. However all we can do currently is speculate.

I expect that we'll see something similar to the traditional vampire abilities and hopefully some impressive passives. I expect almost certainly the drain life spell will be incorporated and I hope that will be slightly better as well to give it extra purpose in combat cause come on, it was more of a novelty in Skyrim. We may see something like a summon added as a vampire ability, I would like to see that. I would love to see an invisibility, in the traditional TES sense, ability also added for some interesting Nightblade builds. That's to start off.

On the Passive front I can see stuff like 'improved sneak' or 'vampire abilities are more effective' or maybe 'drain life drains more life', etc.

However I do not see the Vampire Lord being added at all, as cool as it would be I don't see it happening mainly due to Lore. We may see a whole quest on choosing a Vampire faction you want to belong, as there are different clans, but I doubt that.

I would also love to see the ability to bite people and suck their blood but I don't see that happening either.

Now I'm not that much of a werewolf enthusiast but I would love to see and read about others ideas about possible abilities coming with that beside their transformation. So I'll leave that open for discussion.

I don't really like werewolves and for example in Skyrim I did not make a single one of my characters a werewolf which caused me to shy away from the whole companions quest-line. I didn't really like the much in the first place and them telling me i have to become a Werewolf just pushed me over the edge so when it comes to werewolves I would've gladly joined the silver hand if it was possible.

As for Vampires, I absolutely love them, their lore and their abilities. I don't usually make my main character be a Vampire as I tend to make them quite pure if not pious and virtuous. However i always make one if not several Vampire alts. I can definitely see some sort of bonus to Illusion magic and maybe some sort of speech/charm bonus for them. :D

You can actually finish the companions quest line, and then choose to cure yourself from lycanthropy for good. I rarely ever transform but I enjoy the perks of being a werewolf, mostly I can never contract any diseases.

I actually can imagine players being able to feed off of NPC's whether it's sucking their blood as a vampire or eating them as a werewolf. I don't see why not? Assuming you don't have any witnesses, you should be able to get away with it.

The real question is... can you drink/bleed/suck/eat other players though? Would you want to, outside of RP? Like perhaps it would be a power move or skill that can take absorb a good amount of health?

This should help here.

I think both should have advantages and disadvantages, too be honest with a few tweaks to the layout in skyrim (maybe nerf the vampire lord a bit) it will work fine. I've got faith in Zenimax that they do it right!

I forgot to mention that I did get so bored I just did the companions questline anyway and cured myself as soon as possible but in the end I was quite disappointed with it...

The companions quest line was abysmal, complete a mission and you can become a companion, complete another and your in the circle. It takes half an hour at most to get into the circle.

Agreed.

I hated it...
Hate the Companions anyway.
don't like Werewolves.
Then I kill some werewolf hunters to then find that they somehow got into the middle of Whiterun and attacked the companions.
I kill some witches/Hagravens and go to the tomb of one of the greatest Elf Killers in History with his Elf-Slaying Axe and free the soul of the old harbinger.

So dull and boring...

Yeah, but that is the same with most questlines in skyrim...

what if when you transformed you are flagged for pvp from everybody? I think it would make sense because weres and vamps are generally despised, so if you transformed in the heat of a battle, you would certainly have a power advantage, but you might end up being targeted by unknowing allies as well.

I can see the wolf form being the ultimate of the werewolf skill line so that it isn't abused, and one of the abilities of the wolf form is being able to feed on corpses (player or NPC) either to increase passive strength or increase time spent in wolf form, up to a cap. So either for each corpse you eat you get +5 power or something or you get another 5 seconds of being a wolf, up to like 3 minutes.

If the animations take as long as skyrim, it will take 10 secs just 2 eat the corpse, I think maybe, a weapon that does more damage to weres/vamps, or maybe fort defences, flagging could be overcame, there are whole guilds of werewolves, it's not gonna make much difference if you know where they are or not when they're smashing down your defences.

Going from what they said in the werewolf article, there are a couple abilities we might be able to look foreward to:

"Werewolves use their incredible strength to leap through the air towards their unfortunate targets": maybe some kind of leap to target within X range and knock them down?

"You’ll find that the abilities in the werewolf skill line work together, allowing you to take advantage of interactions that amplify the thrill of the hunt": This makes me think of skills that naturally flow from one to another. Something like this: an ability causes a bleed effect -> an ability does damage, but also stuns if the opponent has a DoT effect on -> an ability does extra damage if used on a stunned enemy. Hopefully more complicated than that though to make sure people don't just have a set rotation thing.

"All of the abilities put you in the role of the hunter—always in control and right on the heels of your prey": I expect a skill or passive or something that makes it much more difficult for someone to successfully sneak against them, so a pretty decent anti-nightblade set.
