Well my family was playing this game called, Shadowbane. Brutal pvp game and not at all noob friendly.

The video i attached is of a Guild defending its town against attackers. Yes, you could take a guilds town from them. Even after they spent millions getting it up. You could either take it for yourself or burn it down and make them spend millions again.

Oh I remember the day I got into MMO's like it just happened yesterday.

I had used to watch my mothers boyfriend (at the time) play Ultima Online all the time, and he never really let me play it because that's what he spent all of his time doing and we only had one PC. Well, long story short, I went in for one of a handful of eye surgeries, and they usually left me blind for about 2 days (my eyes were covered in blood and they hurt, so I kept them shut while they healed.), well I was sitting in the living room all alone listening to the TV (so they thought), but I was really listening to him playing UO. You could hear the sound of the horses feet, and his katana swings as well as screams of death. Well, I guess he noticed I had been listening, and he would ask me if I knew where he was.

A short run in the woods, then the sound of a skeleton? Had to be Brit Graveyard. I was right! .. now the sound of metal hitting rock... had to me the Minoc Mines. This went on for a good hour or so, and he finally said when my eyes healed (sensitive to light for about a week) I would be able to make a character. Thus Marik Kudos was born. Ever since that, I went on from being a retail player to a private shard player, seer, gm, admin, owner, and host. Then I moved onto WoW for a good long time, and eventually got bored and branched from MMO to MMO.

I really just like the persistent feeling of the game. I'm goal oriented, and having a game where a quest is a goal inside of a goal of getting a level inside of getting a goal to hit max level .. well, as you can see the goalception snowballs and I get sucked right in. I'm just a sucker for achievement systems too.

The first MMO I played was "Galaxy wars". It was on high school and everyone in class played that. My class was really nerdy...chess club, library, tech club...most members came from my class. I was within chess club, tech club and (inoffially) library. (they had free access to a computer, all the day gaming :D). Well it was some kind of group pressure, running to the computer room and look how your planets were doing or if your fleet was exterminated again. Yeah, I was a noob, so after one or two years I ceased that MMO...

We then downloaded N64 emulator and played Super Smash Bros ALL the five-minutes breaks ;) the best part ever!

Well then I played nothing MMO, till "Herokon" came up. It´s based on the "The Dark Eye" (german P&P) fantasy world, which I´m a huge fan of. So I play this, even if it´s just a Beta and PvP and Team battles are just on an extra test server. So it´s just a RPG in the internet yet.

Last year I downloaded Planetside 2 and I´m addicted to it ;) it´s really a great game!

Well these are all the MMOs I played EVER!

So I´m really looking forward to TESO! it´s gonna be my first real MMORPG!

Who controls the Septim crown?
Who keeps the Allesian Heresy down?
We do, we do

Who knocked Yokuda off the maps?
Who keeps the Dwemer under wraps?
We do, we do

FFXI (Not the way it is now, they ruined it for me) - I have played a few other MMO's since but none have been able to fill the void it left, hoping TESO will do just that.

I used to think paying €10 per month for playing a game was a rip off but eventually succumbed to WoW. Then I was hooked for about four years. I thought it was really dull at first but roleplaying with my guild kept me in it long enough to level up a bit and start enjoying instanced PvE.
[fingers crossed] To this date there is no MMO that has even come close to offering the fun we had with Shadow Labyrinth and Shattered Halls (pre-nerf) in terms of group PvE. [/fingers crossed]

Here's an early picture of my RP guild.

And here's when we drew first blood on Shade of Aran.

I later did EVE and WAR. They had their virtues but couldn't really keep my interest for long.

Your avatar still reminds me of a Squig herder from warhammer online =)

I have no idea why I pulled DAoC off the shelf. I wasn't even a big PC gamer at the time, and didn't know any RL friends who were playing it.

Friends
It started with Doom and Quake over IPX then Ultima Online, where I played on Freeshards only. Much later DAoC open beta, but then I had no money for the fee and I went back to UO. I must confess I was hyped with WoW as it appears and played till a few months after BC but due to my schedule my friends did progress much faster than I and WoW solo sucks and I quit.
Till now I tried almost all F2P MMOs and all Betas I could get in but no game was appealing to me for a long time.

Oh, the exception is Eve Online, I had to quit because it needs too much time, but it was one of the best MMO experience to me. The size difference between you and a Titan, PvP with and against Cooperations, the fear of loosing everything in the 0 sector. <3

Just a random video. Redemption and Thourin, i think both of those names were right. I was Dhl, until the whole server killed them off. Then i went to mm, that did not last long. After that, i ran my own small guild and got a town.

Oh and i ran with United Nations on Redemption until they broke up and then i followed one of the sub guilds.

But ya, glad to see another Sb player! Good times!

The best, actually. I've never had such fun as I had in SB in computer gaming.

Agreed, the only thing that ever even came somewhat close was.. Warhammer Online. But like they say, Good Things do not last =/

warhammer online close to shadowbane? What?
I cant remember any simmilarities there.

then again. shadowbane itself is highly overrated for what it is. Lay down those nostalgia goggles, it was clunky and you were always fighting the interface more than you were your enemy and from what i know it only got worse on advanced stages of play.

What got me into MMOs was probably EQ. But my first ever MMORPG to play would have been DAOC. Good to see many of its features (pvp related) returning.
Then again, i wouldnt call myself "in MMORPGs" anyway . there were not many i played for a long time. Mostly because they got realy annoying, or the PvP was not up to par. Or like GW2 illustrates it: you cant even get into PvP because the queue is broken.

I was just thinking: "This thread is way on topic. I hope someone whips out their flamethrower soon."
Way to go!
