What type of weapons and armor would you like to see in TESO?

What I'm hoping to see most is race-exclusive armor (taken from Lore and previous games, of course). With TESO being an MMO, I doubt we'll be seeing a shortage of armor variety, but weapons I'm not so sure about.

I'd really love to see spears/halberds make an appearance. I've never really been a spear guy myself, but I would likely use them if they were to be in the game.

Obviously there will be no debate on having a variety of weapons and armor, but is there anything specific you'd like the game to have?

I too wouldn't mind seeing spears and/or halberds in the game.

I would also want a lot of different ranged weapons, like perhaps slings, throwing hatches or som sort of javelin. I myself have never been a big fan of ranged weapons as I like to get up close and personal and see the fear in my oponant's eyes... but it would look really nice with a lot of different projectiles in the air wouldn't it?

Yah, halberds and spears would be a nice addition to the game.

Another supporter of Spears and Halberds returning, along with the addition of Javelins. I also miss some of the other weapons previously seen in the series, such as Staves and possibly the Throwing Knives. Even though Crossbows and Scimitars have reemerged in Skyrim, I'm still crossing my fingers that they remain present in TESO.

i definitley agree. Bonemold and Chitin is a must.

In fact this beeing a TES game. I want the "base armors" to be different by province. Everey MMO has a million of generic armor pieces that get some different effects on them. Basically anything thats not a named item. I want each of them to be tailored by province. A generic helmet in Skyrim would be a horned one. In the covenant it would be more of a knights helmet.
And in Morrowind i want them to use bonemold and chiting instead.
Of course you can get the other stuff too. But this would make it more exotic in a different province giving each part of the world a realy unique feel, and even a more unique one when you travel to far lands. A Dunmer in bonemold would certainly stick out in Skyrim. and vice veras. Thats a good thing.

Also i hope they elaborate on the Argonian armors. so far we heard of "scale armor" wich doe snot sound pratical in that envirement at all. unless they mean like croc leather or something. Id like them to use some rather primal stuff. I once linked a picture of some aztec like armor with a skull as a helmet. That would look realy good on an argonian.
Even tho i dont want them to go full maya/aztec on the argonians. would be wasted potential.

On their weapon i hope they do some unique things too. Something sensible tho.

I agree that it would be nice to see regional armor sets such as chitin and netch leather for Morrowind, chainmail and mithril for Cyrodiil, and so on. I am also curious to see what Argonian armor styles are like. They really need to flesh out Black Marsh.

I'd really like to see the spears and crossbows that have been mentioned. Race-driven armor could be good, but I'd rather the development takes its time making the models pretty and fluid than having a gross of homogenized gear sets.

Having a ton of different gear sounds awesome - and, in the perfect game, it would be. However, making suits of bone, chain, leather, cloth, plate, chitin, wood ... all of that takes a massive amount of time. Further, with the different bulk of the races in the realm, each (at least major) piece will need to be further tailored, to a total of possibly 9 models per piece of armor per race. Then doubled due to male & female. For each of the above types I just mentioned, that's 108 distinct models. And this is assuming, for example, all plate looks the same. Raise the variety, add some more models.

One of the ways TOR cut corners which, in my opinion, made the game look quite cheap was the armor models. They were uninspiring and had a lot of stretch-to-fit & palette-swapping going on. Everything looked more or less the same after a while.

If I -had- to choose between the scenario above and cutting down some armor types to have racial distinction (such as having helms actually have slots accomadating Altmer ears and armor with slots for Khajiit tails), I'd rather the latter. Niche sets like chitin and wood can be more easily introduced at later dates to the depth of detail desired. It's much harder to retroactively customize armor sets to each race.

Sordak, I added you to my buddy list and saw you're from Austria. I visited it briefly this summer while in Bavaria! If the language barrier of my text is an issue, I can try to use my Deutsch skills. They probably won't match your English though! Happy

Spears ... I finally want spears :( Till today there is no decent spear mod for Skyrim, yet.
Meele spears. Eventually throwable ones were cool too!

Further I'm not a fan of hyperbolized armors like there are tons in World of Warcraft. I know its classified as "modern" or something like this, but I want the option to have normal/classic looking armor at highlevel.

Oh, uhm ... And I'd like to see the option to disable the show of the head equipment.

I don't want to see spears. It's extra work, extra balancing, extra animations, for fairly little benefit. I certainly remember first starting Morrowind, seeing it had spears, and thinking, "Oooh, that sounds neat"... then I started using them and realised they pretty much just amounted to more hassle for less effect. I just don't understand the excessive love everyone else seems to have for them.

I like this seeing how they are already in the "game" (by game i mean all of TOS).

I also LOVE the idea of regional armors.

However here is the thing the more armors, the more items that will have to be loading in massive PVP battles. Because this is a online game im betting we wont have the near unlimited customization with billions of armors/weapons. Well have some generic set and some pretty looking rares sets, but i wouldnt get your hopes up for the fullness of TES armory. Its just impractical for a MMMORPG.

That being said im pretty sure we will have the classic, Fur, guard, ebony, glass, dawrven, dadric, and the other i missed.

If there is any addition/changes im sure it be around the light armors...

Perhaps because that is how we wish to roleplay our characters? While the races may not be exact carbon copies of their supposed real world counterparts, spears do capture the feel of certain races. When I think of a Nord in combat, for example, I think of axes, seaxes, bow and arrows, spears, and shields. As for Imperials, gladiuses, spathas, javelins, bow and arrows, and hastae (a thrusting spear).

I wouldn't say it is extra work seeing as this project has been in the works for five years now. For all we know, it's possible most of these weapons have already been reimplemented into the series, and if not, I don't see it being too difficult to add them in a patch, expansion, or what have you.

Besides, most weapons (and spells, even) in vanilla Morrowind felt like they were more hassle for less effect, with the whole dice-roll mechanics. But even in Morrowind, I enjoyed using them for their reach and relative distance you could put between you and your opponent (much like how they were used in real life). Bloodmoon also added some pretty useful spears, as well. That's just my opinion on the matter.

If you do not aproach a game optimistically you will never achieve greatness.

you might not be disappointed thats true. But if thats what your strive for in life, for not beeing disappointed, or medicore. Then you probably dont live anyway.

they got 300 million dollars. You know how much money that is? To comparison. Everquest Next has 20 million. And that games looking pretty solid from the few things we heard about it.
