This is purely a work of fiction.. Except I totally stole your names *Cough*. Anyways, if you feel offended blame Tecca.
This takes place in a fictive universe in an Industrial/Victorian/Imperial/Steam Punk Age. Who doesn't love zeppelins? Enjoy
It was but 9 days until Winter's Eve and Benjamin Aldar was heading down to the Westminster Pub. On the way he met his friend Thomas De Ecca, a fellow scholar at the Tesoffian University. Benjamin quickly offered his friend De Ecca to join him for a drink at the Westminster and De Ecca happily agreed.
Just when they rounded the corner of 5th Street and Bayle they ran into Lady Adrianne Ashveil, followed by a couple of Guards. Young Lady Ashveil came from the rich and well known Ashveil Family who frequently donated to the very same University that De Ecca and Aldar worked at. They had met her a few times and for a noblewoman she was quite modest and down to earth. She was also very involved in the Animal Rights Foundation. Benjamin and Thomas quickly removed their hats from their heads and bowed before her ladyship. Her ladyship simply waved their silly greetings off and asked them where they were going this cold winter night.
Benjamin Aldar replied that the two of them where going to the Westminster for a stiff drink and a bite to eat. At this Lady Ashveil snorted and proclaimed that the Westminster where no place for people of De Ecca and Aldar's rank and instead invited them to join her at the Court of Lord Nehemia for his famed Winter's Ball. Both Aldar and De Ecca knew that this offer was too good to pass on and accepted in a heartbeat.
'' My stagecoach is just a bit further down the road. Follow me gentlemen.''She said and took the lead with the two scholars not far behind. They soon reached the stagecoach and one of the Guards opened the door and helped Lady Ashveil inside, while De Ecca and Aldar climbed in after. Inside it was much warmer and they were greeted by none other than Captain Nicole Ajla, famed sailor and explorer. De Ecca and Aldar felt a little overwhelmed by this fine company of both Captain Ajla and Lady Ashveil, in fact it made them a little uneasy. The two scholars weren't exactly street rats but neither nobles and were used to socialize with books and.. more books.
During their ride to Nehemia Manor Captain Ajla shared tales of her latest escapedes to the Isles of Spices. There she had explored the ruins of King Gharak of the Sun and found several fine relics that she had donated to the Tesoffian Museum. At last they reached Nehemia Manor and got out of Lady Ashveil's carriage. The Manor was a sight to see, especially at night when the lights from the windows made it stand out amongst the trees in the large garden. De Ecca and Aldar followed Lady Ashveil and Captain Ajla to the portier at the front gate where they were let in after a quick check on the Guest List. It was just a short walk from the gate to the actually manor but they had time to enjoy the beautiful trees and bushes that followed the road to the house. When they arrived at the big oak doors two men in uniform opened the doors and bowed to Captain Ajla and Lady Ashveil. The four then proceeded into the Main Hall where most of the Guests were gathered, enjoying the company of each other and the abundance of drinks and food.
'' Lady Ashveil! Captain Ajla! How delightful to see you here!'' A man, who Aldar knew as Doctor Beow Ulfras of the very same univeristy that De Ecca and Aldar worked at called out and approached the two ladies. Although he was an important man at the University they rarely saw him. For the Doctor instead spent his time working on the ancient ruins of Fayled Faan-forooms.
'' Look at all these people.. I feel so unimportant.'' De Ecca whispered to Aldar and stared into the sea of Guests. Aldar agreed, this place was filled with all kinds of nobles and important people, causing the two friends to feel even smaller. Amongst the Guests were such men as General Sebastion of Ordak, known for his brutal tactics and for sparing no enemy. Aldar also spotted Lord Shadian Thronwe with his usual black cape and charming tophat conversing with someone who looked like they had more money than Aldar could ever hope to have. When Benjamin looked back at Lady Ashveil and Captain Ajla the good Doctor had already disappeared, the man was not known to be able to focus on anything or anyone for long.
''Ladies, gentlemen.'' The voice belonged to Sir Charles Deveron, Admiral of the Royal Tesoffian Navy and Hero of the People. He was wearing his white and goldbrimmed uniform and a bejeweled sword in his belt as he joined the small group at the mahogny table covered by various drinks and fruits. Admiral Deveron bowed before Lady Ashveil and saluted Captain Ajla before turning his attention towards De Ecca and Aldar who had been staring down at their feet for the past minute, not sure what to do with themselves.
'' I don't believe I've had the pleasure. I am Sir Charles Deveron of his Majesty's Royal Navy and Knight of the Moderitucs Order.'' He said and shook their hands.
I'm Benjamin Aldar and this is Thomas De Ecca. We work at the University.'' Aldar replied nervously.
''Ah yes, Scholars! I do say we could use more of you and less of me.'' The Admiral said with an amused tone, chuckled and twiddled his blonde mustache. He then proceeded with raising his glass of brandy and exclaimed.
'' For King and Country!'' Before he let the glass touch his lips. Aldar and De Ecca murmured the same and sipped on their own drinks.
'' Indeed, for the King!'' A female voice answered and the owner soon made her way over to the Admiral. None other than the famed poet and writer Triss De Kele. Currently working as the Royal Poet and writing the King's biography, which she was mighty proud of. Before Triss De Kele could continue she was interupted by the harsh voice of General Sebastian of Ordak scolding a servant for not getting his order right the first time. When the servant couldn't get away fast enough he was hit in the back by the General's cane, also known as the Poking Stick by his Soldiers.
