Xbox 360 Controller?

Not Set
So I was just playing ‘Skyrim’ on the PC and it hit me I wonder if ESO will be playable with a controller? Now I know a lot of people think it’s crazy playing MMO’s with controllers due to the limited buttons available but 3rd party software like (Pinnacle) are fantastic at making it work and there are a few MMO’s in which I play with friends and like a lot of gamers play and feel more comfortable with a controller in hand then keyboard/mouse combo….

Whats everyone’s thought’s on this can it work….Should it?

ZOS is working on a compatibility with controllers and it is possible, since there are simply not that many buttons in eso, which is why controllers don't work in other mmos.

A thing you have to keep in mind though is that you need to turn around in mmos quite often and using a mouse makes it a lot easier than using a controller, so i would not recommend using one in pvp and stressful pve situations, but if you like using one for questing there is no reason not to.

We will see how it works out, I can't promise that it will be in the game a t release though.

It'll work. And being able to turn around quickly is a simple matter of turning up your controller sensitivity. And with TESO's short hot bar, the controller shouldn't give you any trouble with respect to that either.

Reading one of the recent articles ZOS said something along the lines of 'Download button mapping software and controllers are a possibility'
also in the same article it said 10% of the developers use controllers to play, only you cant access the in game menu's so there is a chance that you will be able to.

Actually, I've seen people successfully pull off raids with 360 controllers - even in WoW. And although native support would be nice, you can always map xbox keys to keyboard/mouse movements through XBCD.

Personally, I do agree with the crowd that thinks it's crazy, but I'm not crazy enough to deny that some people actually play better with a controller than with a KB/Mouse, and I can also say that with XBCD, you can add support to any videogame on your own. Smiling

I'll be one of those crazies trying to play with the controller. :P I can put down the controller for a few seconds though to type something or access the menu if need be.

Doubt this game would come to consoles, since the next generation is coming so soon anyways. As far as we know, this is only being released for pc/Mac. That being said, it would be a great surprise (especially with E3 coming up) to hear ESO will be also playable on consoles in the next generation. But I really can't see it happening, especially with megaserver tech. Too complicated. But that's ok, because I usually play these kind of games on pc anyways, and I can't see it affecting the game too badly.

FFXIV: A Realm Reborn looks as though it will support controllers, so I would say ZOS is exploring the options, considering a heavy majority of Elder Scrolls fans will be coming from the consoles. This would require them to create a control scheme to fit the input device, however, and may be something they choose to skip entirely. I wouldn't mind either, but after playing WoW, I would prefer my MMO to be with a mouse and keyboard. On the flip side, when Phantasy Star Online 2 comes out, I'll most likely play it with a controller. (Side Note: I wonder if the Xbox One controller will be PC compatible like the Xbox 360 wired controller was)

Hmm I was just thinking that. If there are controllers for PC or that are PC compatible that could work. I just doubt they'll extend this game to consoles. But I've never played a TES game with a controller, and I do find the idea even on a PC intriguing.

Well I manage to play Planetside 2 with an Xbox controller quite well, (apart from a minor trigger issue that will not allow usual fps scope and fire buttons to work together) obviously you will need the keyboard as well, but it is not much of an issue to use both. I am guessing with the minimal hotbar, the controller setup would only use a few the keyboard buttons so should not be much of an issue in combat.

Could even map the hotbar to the buttons. You'd just hafta remember the set up you have (ie 1st ability is x, second ability is y, and so on and so forth)

I can wholeheartedly confirm that The Elder Scrolls Online will NOT be extended to consoles and game controllers.

We'll have to see how many buttons are needed to play the game. If not that many, then it might still be possible. It just won't be officially integrated into the game.
