A friend and I were discussing this concern we have for TESO.

we have been playing neverwinter and the combat is good but there is one issue, we both have.

We cannot move while using any ability, we are held in position until the animation of our ability is over this is a concern we have for TESO also because it has similar combat.

Can anyone confirm that when in combat in TESO that you can move at 100% speed while using abilities ?. (the exception blocking or zooming with a bow).

I hope we have 100% movement when using abilities otherwise combat will not be fluid.

I say that there should be some kind of cancellations possible on abilities, but 100% movement speed during them should be determined individually for each skill. Some skills (like say a large damage heavy swing that the longer you charge the more damage it does) shouldn't let you charge up the attack then sprint across the battlefield to strike with it. Same thing with spells with casting times (if there are any) because it would be really lame to just run circles around the battlefield casting uber damage effects with no downside. That just seems... not right. However, moves such as the Dragon Knight's chain pull skill should, in my opinion, keep your mobility up.

I definitly agree that this was a major letdown on neverwinter.

From what i know you can move freely while swinging. however you can only move slowly while pulling up an arrow while using the bow or when doing a charged spell.

Yup, movement while casting / charging power attacks is confirmed, both from developer's and leaked content.

On that note, I also hope they don't do movement impairment while in combat like in GW2. That always annoyed me. I don't know about you, but if I was being attacked, my adrenaline would kick in and I'd be moving faster than normal. But in GW2 it's like the moment you get hit, you move at half speed.

Agreed i didnt like that, also i didnt like the sluggish controls quit playing after a month.

i play wow and the reason i still do is because the combat is fluid they need to make the combat as fluid as wow otherwise we will have trouble adapting. what i mean by fluid is 100% mobility while swinging your weapons and using your abilities. if i see skills where i am grounded while using them i will be turned off the gameplay very quickly.

It just works for pvp 100% uptime on mobility unless CC'd/bow sniping/blocking be it with a shield sword or a spell ward.

Disregarding snares and stuns and just considering normal base attacks, if you are running, and you get attacked by something, will being under attack reduce your movement speed even if you do not use any of your abilities?

It was nerfed in Neverwinter as soon as the devs realized that people could just kite everything into death. Often 100% movement speed has that same issue. Whats really important is how they handle the feel between transitions, as that is what people really notice and find jarring.

From when I played at PAX combat did not slow you down when trying to run away (I did a lot of this) it only slowed you down when you were attacking.

I don't know ... he did say he was "busy" and he is one to follow the nda so even if he denies it there is still the possibility.

I am the shadow within a shadow. I will accept any job; however I will execute the target, or maybe even the person who hired me; it all depends on who has the most gold to give. Even then you can not trust me to let you walk away with your life.

backpeddling yes you should be at walking pace but strafing and forward moving should be 100%. i would also dislike not being able to move while using an ability (i dont like to stand in fire when i press big dps button) ;)

I am so glad to know that. It had to be the most annoying thing about both Guild Wars games. So happy to know it's not in ESO.

They ought to make some sort of "accuracy" system. So, if you hold still it naturally is higher while doing swings, but if you move around there's more of a chance to miss. Make it noticeable but not major so someone who is a flurry-type character wouldn't be super effected if he moved around as he hits many more times than a two-hander dude. Just throwing ideas out there. xD
