Sorry if this seems like a painfully stupid question to you MMO veterans but TESO will be my first MMO so I've got a question:

If you purchase a digital MMO (specifically the digital Imperial edition of TESO) then download it and get a new pc would you have to pay to redownload it on the new pc? or are there other methods of some sort for transferring the downloaded copy to the new pc?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question, it's just what came to mind.

If you download it and it requires an account, you'll be able to swap to a new PC with no problems other than... well redownloading the game. In other words; pay and download once, don't have to buy it again.

Not exactly the same topic but somehow it made me think of this, if I pre-order the game and make an Altmer in the Dominion level him up, etc. can I make an Orc in the Pact a few months later? Same with Imperials, can I make one a few months after the game is released?

I may be able to help you there, because we should be able to make multiple characters and keep them with no problems. Worst that can happen is you lose the character, but you may be able to get it back through contacting some people in charge of the accounts and whatnot, as, through past experience, all of your information should be kept in a secure database in case things like that happen.

What happens with MMOs is that all of your characters, data, account, etc is saved by the company in their databases. If you bought the game and switched computers, they know you've already bought the game and you can redownload it free. Your character information is saved in their databases, so switching computers won't erase characters either. You would just sign in with your account like normal and your character's data is right there ready for you.

This is true for all MMOs because if your character data was saved on your computer then there's nothing stopping you from just going into your game files, adding tons of gold/items to your inventory by editing the file keeping track of your character, and then logging into the game with your illicit goods. By keeping characters saved in their own databases, companies cut down on the amount of exploitations by a very large margin.

It's also pretty much standard that the game allows you to make multiple characters without any kind of detriment (other than making yourself decide which character to play at any given moment). Standard is 3-10 characters, depending on the game.
