Hey Everyone,

Bit of a silly question but I looked at some of the racial passives for Altmer (that might be incorrect) but it seems the Altmer are fully magic focused (as they are physically weak). I originally intended to create an Altmer character whose class was a Dragon Knight

Do you think I should choose another race as I would love to create a Dragon Knight and ...well the high elves look just awesome but I dont want to be let down with meaningless magic passive buffs as it seems Dragon knights are mostly physical/Fire based.

None of the races in our Dominion seem to have any heavy armor or shield passives either.. So will we be lacking "tanks"?

It seems Wood elves + Khajit are stealth medium armor focused where as altmer are magic focused so a Dragon Knight ...seems to feel left out :(

What are your thoughts?

Actually nevermind...

I sort of assumed skills would use stam instead of Magic but they do use Magic so I can see the use of having an Altmer Dragon Knight

I had the same thought when making my Altmer Dragon Knight . Not only will we be able to use more spells to Taunt more do more dps etc but we can also make use of weapon swapping using a destro staff for cc aoe or pulling/dps. I don't know why people say they will be the least viable choice ..lets prove them wrong! I think being able to cast 2-3 more spells through out a fight will out weigh the slight racial bonuses the others give imo.

Considering every class has magic, altmers will do well in most classes.

The game is about freedom.

You can make any Race any class with any kind of weapon and armour. And you will struggle to say what is and what isn't a wrong choice.
(maybe a staff wielding Nightblade with light armour actually might be a wrong choice)

On the last session, made a group with another player to clear the ruins trying to access some chests for a quest.
I had a Khajiit Templar (Restoring Light) with Heavy armour and Shield/Sword. He had an Altmer Sorcerer (Storm Calling) with Heavy armour, and 2H weapon.

He was as good tank as a Dragonknight or a Templar. Far better to say than an Nightblade surprisingly. We cleared the area while we were three levels smaller than the mobs, and they were multiple ones.
(if you did the quest the one with the ghosts that hit like bricks around the area of the quest with the 3 shrines).

Then we joined a group of Nightblades to BC. The nightblades died on almost a single hit of the bosses, we tank them for much much longer doing some ridiculous damage in the process also and either killing some or still holding. My biggest weakness was I couldn't keep up the heals properly.
That was mitigated when the two nightblades were replaced by two Templars with similar spec as mine. Steamrolled at level 12 the BC without sweat. And the Sorcerer guy, was tanking the bosses all the time. (due to high damage of the storm calling also couldn't pull the aggro of him).

What impressed me, was that he had some good mana regeneration, and was able to keep up spamming spells.
If I didn't liked Khajiits so much, I could roll an Altmer Templar with Medium armour and DW. (heavy armour sux imho).

I made an Altimer Dragonknight Using Mainly Healing Staff in the last Beta. By the time the beta ended I had just reached lvl 15 and was ready to introduce Bow as my second weapon. I found that after level 12(ish) I could fulfill the roll I wanted really well. The Dragonknight abilities just gave me a little bit more survivability in light armor, without losing all the passive benifits to Magika regen and spell cost. The concept long term is that this build will be a much more effictive campaign healer, Aoe healing will be better in PvP and a bigger/faster regen on the magika pool will mean more sustainability. Idealy though I would work with a Templar so we could combine buffs and and compliment eachother.
I'll see how the build works in the continuation of the next Beta

To echo what's been said so far, in my experience too you can pretty much roll out any class/race combo and still be very competitive. However it's not all about the race/class choice, your weapon choice is equally important. Your skill point allocation is also crucial to how you shape your character. To answer your question directly, yes a Dragon Knight Altmer is not only a viable option but depending on what your primary role on the battlefield will be, he can even the best choice.

In the last two betas I played as a two-handed weapon-wielding Altmer DK with my role being a heavy armoured Tank/Buffer. Let me tell you, it's a formidable combo. Sure you don't have some of the perks of Orcs (Heavy Armour XP, Robust, Brawny) or Nords (Two-Handed XP, Robust, Rugged). A similar level Orc/Nord will have slightly higher Stamina/Health thus in theory be able to take and dish out a bit more damage. But as an Altmer with Gift of Magnus and Spellcharge you'll have more Magicka to cast those brilliant defensive spells that exist in the Dragon Knight skill set. You can also buff up you team-mates a lot more with the Earthen Heart abilities, making you a better tank to have around.

As everyone said the game is about freedom and you can pretty much make any race/class/weapon/role mix work if you apply the right skillls to it. I think that's awesome.
