I've been running skyrim on my pc on the lowest quality settings, with the smallest resolution, and i have it on windowed mode, and it still runs like complete garbage. This is really annoying me cause i don't want to have wasted 50 bucks. Pouting.. any solutions or help? windows 8 btw.

1st off, windows 8 sucks, has nothing to do with you running the game I just hate it lol
2md off, what are your computer specs it could be a number of things i.e., graphics card, processor, not enough ram

I'm not an adept tech dude, but it might be helpful if you were to post your system specs. This includes things like your processor, graphics card, available memory, etc. This allows the tech dudes to assess your computer's capabilities for running more demanding computer games.

To do this, I think you can run it from your Windows menu on the bottom left of your screen then search "dxdiag". After that copy the system information here.

Windows 8 has nothing to do with your problem, after what you've said, it's probably because you have low RAM. Post your specs though, just to make sure.

It could be any number of issues. If one part of your computer isn't up to snuff, it creates a bottleneck that slows everything else down. I'm going to go with the exact same advice as everyone else: put your dxdiag in. Make it in a spoiler window so people don't have to scroll through that whole thing when looking through the replies, too.

Ok, to look further towards what the problem is, type in dxdiag on the windows 8 interface. once you select it, click on 'save all information' and save it to your desktop. Then post what is saved on this page so we can have a closer look.

Well here's a bit of info on the graphics in your computer. I'm guessing it's a notebook. Towards the end of the article is some benchmarks for various games using your particular integrated graphics:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Gr...168.0.html

So going off of that, we know it's Ivy Bridge. So I can guess that maybe your 2.5 ghz processor is possibly this one: http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/inde...M%202.5GHz

And here's a little more on that particular processor: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-...458.0.html

But without your actual dxdiag, all we can do is make a few guesses.

For example, if your processor is dual core we know from reading the article that the HD Graphics 4000 runs best off of quad core processors. So that could be the reason why Skyrim doesn't play well on your PC.

Either way though, the HD Graphics 4000 is integrated so you aren't going to get the performance that you would from having a dedicated graphics card.

Here's an article about integrated vs dedicated graphics to help you understand better: http://www.reviversoft.com/blog/2012/01/...-graphics/

And that's Tech Dudette. :p

Agree. You should have enough ram to at least run skyrim. Really need more details about your processor and graphics card

I am going to make an educated guess who without seeing your dxdiag and say it is going to be your RAM, usually with most notebook/laptops, they arent built for gaming. They are built for school/work purposes unless you buy a gaming PC. That is not to say that you cant game on a laptop, for instance, I have a COMPAQ Presario CQ62 and I am able to run DC Universe Online, ARMA 2, Total War: Rome, LOTRO, and a few others. But a game like Skyrim is so large and so detailed, it has so many moving parts that it could prove a problem for your current specs.

He has 6 gigs, which I'm pretty sure exceeds industry standard (not totally sure, I run 32 gigs). If anything it should be able to run skyrim on the lowest settings at least. That's why I think it it either processor, gpu or a combination

Howdy there Gen, fancy seeing you here. As for the OP's question, I know for a fact that Skyrim cannot utilize more than 3.1 Gigs of RAM. In addition, I know that a certain proportion of the VRAM is mirrored into the RAM for some odd reason. Even if the OP is running Skyrim on max settings, he should not be getting above 1ish Gigs of RAM unless he has an excessive amount of texture re-placer mods.

As for the debate on whether his processor or GPU can handle the game; I would recommend downloading the Skyrim performance monitor, it shows VRAM usage, RAM usage, CPU usage, and hard drive usage.
