Anyone just a bit upset over not having an Armor Dye system?

I feel dyeable armor is one of the best means for further enhancing and customizing your character and it pains me one isn't implemented, especially considering the thorough character generator ESO is implementing. By all accounts one of the deepest character creation generators on the market.

An armor Dye system could only enhance this already excellent feature of the game. I feel the game will have that "all armor types look alike" feature that plagues MMO's which don't feature such a Dye system.

I am not asking for a generic GW2 style Dye system but it would be a nice touch to include a system that makes use of the Provisoner crafting skill. Even though Armor Dyes is not part of TES games the system is in place with the diverse amount of crafting components to support such a system.

meh.
I would have certainly enjoyed it alot. But im not too upset about it not beeing there.
The armors in TES only consist of metal in the minority. Most armor types are actually made of stuff like glass, bone, leather of obscure creatures, chitin... stuff like that. dye on any of that would look silly.

So i prefer keeping the identity of the setting over having dyeable armors.
Especialy with them beeing flat textures anyway, if youd add dyes in there it could look realy weird.

that beeing said, i enjoyed armor dyes in GW2. But for TES it just doesnt fit in.

Leather or fur armor would have looked good dyed so long as it wasn't bright pink or green or anything. It would be good for factions and it is unfortunate that they aren't adding it. Yeah I guess so.

I would've liked to see subtle armour dyes, in restrained colours (neutrals, some tasteful deeper shades, and a range of leather and metal tones), added to parts of the armour as highlights etc. as well as for base colour. So primary, secondary, tertiary dye channels.

It was already mentioned that armor crafters will have the ability to alter and individualize armors. As I recall not the colour, but the shape of the armor. Could be different shoulder pads or spikes on the armor. Hope they won´t exaggerate that. I don´t like Mages in robes with half a meter pads on their shoulders. That looks stupid.

My impression is that ZOS are constantly moving away from the over-the-top, crazy WoW stuff towards a realistic style more in keeping with TES. (Just compare the char models in the first screenshots with the ones we've seen lately.) On that note, I'm glad dyes are out, but also happy to hear you'll be able to individualize the things you craft.

Well dyes don't necessarily mean outrageous.

I hope they just stick with true Elder Scrolls style armor and honestly I think most would not accommodate dye for many reasons due to the materials they are made of. Any other ways of modification would be really really awesome. I really only think dye should apply to cloth like things and maybe some light furs or leather.

Nono, I didn´t mean mogryfying. But e.g. in skyrim there are leather armors with and without goat skull, iron armor and banned iron armor. I´m talking of adding and changing details, like belt buckles, shoulder pad style, the horns\wings of helmets

Here's 3 charts that show a range of neutral colours for leather and cloth. Two of them also have some more intense colours that could be used for cloth. If the allowed colours on gear were separated into certain channels (like you couldn't dye a leather piece any shade of red or blue etc, but could use neutral shades meant for leather, and you can only use metal dye shades in areas already designated as metal) then there would be no chance to cause any kind of jarring effect with the environment, yet people would still be able to create a unique look for themselves that they could feel happy with.

So assign areas of the gear/clothing into channels - metallic/leather/cloth, and only allow certain shades (shades designated as metallic or leather or cloth) to be used in each of these areas. Leather would have the more neutral shades only, cloth could have a few deeper shades, and metallics = metal colours.

I dunno, most MMORPGs end up caving in to our demands for custom appearance systems. It'll be requested over and over again, there's no escaping the fact it's popular and wanted, even if they want to insist on being purists.

As I hope I've demonstrated, no need for the colours to cause issues with the art direction, if done properly (channels/certain colours allowed only, as above)^

Yea I really like the charts you posted ha you got me convinced if done properly then it could work for everything. Good point it may not be in at launch or even in the near future but if brought up enough it may happen.
