the question is: are you for or against MMO database sites? how do you think they will effect TESO?

i have played a ton of MMOs and ive been playing them for about 10 years, as a Min-Maxer in every MMO i have played, i love out of game tools. but i have also been playing single player RPGs for even longer. and i find my single player experience to be totally different, for the most part in this category i have been a bit of a purist. typically in single player i like to make my own path - im a huge fan of finding that crazy unique build to 'break' a game mechanic.

in skyrim i had tons of fun going purely unarmed the after falling in love with the "skill" fists of steel. to me it was quirky and a unique(dare i say original) experience and that is something i really take pride in whilst playing RPGS. but introduce that multi-player element and i feel like the pvp competition makes everyone flock towards mediocrity in all of those cookie cutter builds.

i pose this question as a web developer / software programmer by trade - and the majority of my free time is spent in preparation / planning / and building tools for the TESO community. by far my most ambitious project is AdoringFan.net - a community oriented TESO database i plan to open to the public the moment open beta is announced. if anyone is interested please check out the Sneak Peek here. from my bipolar position the goal is to find a way to create this resource for the community while not trampling all over the fun of discovery & without going around spoon feeding people either.

let me know what you think, what you'd love & hate to see or just any thoughts in general!

If your database doesn't have the cookie cutter builds, but maybe instead a couple tips. Like walkthroughs for some quests, a couple of build ideas or sugestions (not like a template per say, but mayb a breakdown of perks and passives for each skill tree, explaining what each would best be used for), and general class information would be awesome. If someone is stuck in game, or is undecided as to which class/race to pick, or wants to know what each weapon/armour/playstyle looks like and effective strategies for each, then that's stuff you could help with.

People will post those strategies / cookie-cutter junk anyway. You can tell the people that use them because they never deviate from the standard build, even in the niche situations where it's a good idea.

The nice thing about these sites is they save me the time of the secretarial "find this, test that" work. As a mathematician, I can optimize builds perfectly fine as long as there isn't black box bullshit standing in my way. I have zero tolerance for entropic enigmas of editorial omission.

Fairly certain since this is the next Triple-A MMO release we will see Database sites like WoWHead or Curse.

Something like wowhead would be cool, if it showed all skill line trees and allowed us to theory craft builds. But cookie-cutter guides are terrible.. and while its likely they will happen (albeit probably not accurately with sooo many possibilities TESO will provide), I'll be bummed if they do. But only because then people who dont think for themselves will start following them and probably discourage others who dont as well.

Change the website URL to something less out of context, catchy and memorable. Mudcrab.com?

Regards, Bob from marketing.

Also, your poll is rather passive-aggressive. You could have just made the third option "I have no opinion on the matter." Instead of "I don't care about that crap anyway". I personally have little interest whether such databases exist, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't use one if it was available.

Its inevitable, Paul even mentioned they expect it to happen, when he spoke about crafting in Buffed.de interview

Question is if it will be for crafting purpose only.

1. We know certain items will be obtainable only via crafting, some only via PvP and some only dropped
2. What we dont know yet if drops in PvP would be tied to mob (as in WoW) or completely random, 1. suggest it will be the first option

In such environment database would be handy

I think a TESO database is a good idea and it can give much insightful information. I vite YES. I think that AdoringFan.com is as memorable as Mudcrab.com and more aprapo.

TESOF is owned by Curse, so we'll be seeing something.

Doesn't Tamriel Foundry count as a fledgling database for ESO?

I don't understand the question.
They will happen, so what's the point of being for or against?

Negligible for the tech we can have here.

They wouldnt be interested unless there is profit to make.

I agree database is inevitable and Sage mentioned they actually expect community to sprout some (in the buffed.de interview). Personally I like the ZAM ones, yes they are very "bannered" but working just fine for me
