Armor with weight variation

I was thinking today about what types of armor I want to wear in the game, and I'm thinking a medium type would go good for my playstyle. However, I don't really like the medium armors. On the other hand, Glass, Ebony, and Daedric each are amazing looking. So what if we had variations of each for each weight class. An example, is in Skyrim there was a Ebony chain mail plate that was medium or light armor (or something along those lines, its been a while.)

Plus if you think about it, wouldn't say elves have light elven armor for their light soldiers, and a heavier elven for any warrior of their ranks. Having armor that's just one weight class really doesn't make sense in realistic terms.

The game allows you to choose any armor type you want, heavy, light, cloth for whatever class you are. The armor type levels up as you use it so use whatever floats your boat.

I see your point, cosmetics is always an issue.
Especially if it conflicts with RP.

I'm leaning towards the idea that the armor appearances may differ from the games, remember we are looking at a different point in time, plus with the addition to armor from all over the world you are looking at a lot of options.

Plus we do not know what crafting options may be available, making armor lighter in weight at the sacrifice to protection?

If anything, I hope to see armor choices come with some penalty. Say someone wears heavy armor, they cant carry a lot of items or equip everything they want, or even swim for great distances (which they never could in it). Same principle with lighter armors, but they can carry more at the risk of more damage etc. etc.. But, that would be from the starting stand point. As you level armors, you can begin to increase those values.

I know something like this wont be implemented, but would be some what interesting and would make people really think about what to wear when going out and what to collect and keep when traveling. Of course, people will cry about not being able to carry 200 items and the other restrictions that follow, which would make it off putting to the masses.

Maybe, I just see no weight systems in gaming odd, which is something most don't care/talk about. But I think that is another topic for discussion, lol.

Well they did say that inventory is slot based and not weight based so your armor choice won't have an impact on your inventory.

I would think that the weight of armor would affect how fast you can run, how much endurance you use in running and sprinting and how well you are able to sneak undetected.

I like that we can wear any armor type we want and even mix them up by wearing different types of armor at the same time.

Its not really changing since this isnt one of the main elder scrolls games in the series, it's an MMO and somethings have to be changed. I know some die hard role players really like to immerse themselves and would prefer weight limits like in the TES series but it's not like this is much of a big deal.

The TES fanboy in me is sad but the MMO player in me is happy.

I agree with @Raydon .

We need to be pragmatic about armor class (and pray that ZoS is as well). Yes, we have freedom to wear what we want, but we don't know how class perks/class abilities and other perks are helped/hindered by what we're wearing.

I'm of the opinion that specific armor classes are going to be better suited for specific player classes based on perk choices.

I.e. Yeah, you can be a mage running around in Daedric and take melee hits like a boss, but because its heavy, you won't have as fast of magicka regen or as high magicka as you would wearing a robe. That kind of logic.

Gotcha, yeah I'm more for the ES style. I don't play the mmo's that often, guild wars, and gw2 are about the only ones I liked. I liked the ES style inventory bc you could always increase your strength to carry more. I mean you never know when your weapon will break ;) but i'll get over it. Also, Tabbycat I'm listening to that podcast right now kinda hard to download things over here.

@DeAtH OriGiN you will still be able to increase inventory space with more slots, I understand the TES point for a lot of people but even though TES is my favorite RPG, I do favor MMOs. It may even things out in raids and dungeons so peoples gear choices dont limit the items and rewards they can hold.

@Raydon yeah Tabbycat's link helped out with a lot. Hopefully I'll get used to the MMO side of it. In the podcast that Tabbycay posted it said something along the lines of "transitions from PvE to PvP will be fluent" which sounds good to me. Can't wait to get outta here back to the states and start anticipating/playing...

If I remember correctly, they did mention something like "hybrid" between the two systems, and slot based. Sounds confusing and all I could work out of it was that system might be simmilar to oldschool RPGs where items took multiple slots based on item type.

Would make sense with a hybrid, since weight can in RP terms as much a down as slot systems. Like you've got 2 arms and yet you can carry 5000 pillows cause they're light or you've got 2 arms yet you can carry 2 dead mammoth corpses cause it's one for each arm to carry.
