I'm sure ESO will some form of "Auction House" or something. Yet thinking back from passed MMOs I've been apart of alot of alternatives to an Auction House comes to mind. So i got thinking...

I thought haveing a Market type area or maybe Bizaar type area with boothes and stands with NPCs behind each would be more to the enviroment and offer better immersion into the game.

Suppose how it would work would be a character would have to talk to the "Manager NPC" of the Marketplace then be presented with GUI with priceing and auction length. Once listed the item would be available for purchase via the appropriate vendor at their respected booth area.
Vendors selling weapons/armors would have a designated area in the market and so on for other item vendors.

Unfortunately I see no way of allowing an item listed in .. say.. Whiterun to be seen and/or purchased in Riften. Which would mean a person would have to travel from town to town to see what was available for sale. Which could be seen as good or bad.

Whatcha think?

Have a market hub in every/most cities, where people can add their items to the auction or buy items.

Have one system accessible through multiple hubs, allow the player to sort through the AH with an intuitive interface and maintain a simple bid/buyout system.

No personal marketstand bs that you find in jrpgs where you set up a stand in an open square with 50 other people and spend your whole afternoon waiting to sell shit. We work enough during the day, doing so in a game is ludicrous imo.

I prefer and fully expect there to be a market or auction house of some sort. As much as I like the idea of a "market place" that @RajinKajin suggested, at least for immersion purposes, I think the latency/rendering issues it could cause pretty much exclude this idea. Im sure we'll see the tried and true "auction house" or a variation on it.

The question is, will these auction houses span across servers and factions? If you cant intermingle with other factions or travel into their lands, then it only makes sense that you cant sell to them either. At the very least, there would have to be an extra cost to buy from other lands/factions(the cost for a neutral trader to cross faction lines). This is only IF they follow their own logic in regards to factions, that is. With all the talk of emersion and lore affecting the design and gameplay everywhere else, I would expect that it should come into play with trade/marketplace also. Lets keep it consistant, if we're gonna do it.

since there are in fact no servers tht question is moot, this could potentialy lead to some huge economy.
As for spanning factions. I doubt it.

So it's been a very long while for me, but did DAoC have an auction house system? If I remember right in it's prime, it did not. I'm trying to think of successful auction house systems other than WoW. EVE Online has probably one of the biggest and most comprehensive AH systems I've seen, but I dont know if it would be appropriate for ESO. There are local and regional hubs in which you can setup buy orders and sell orders, and possibly make profit moving stuff from the local hub to the regional hub. Aion tried both the marketplace and AH and I thought it was terrible. SWTOR had so many bugs it still is not as comprehensive as it needs to be. Diablo III's AH was awkward having to leave the game to buy and sell stuff, and I dont like the idea of attaching a bank or paypal account to the auction house. There are a lot of AH / marketplace models out there from the different MMO's, and I only have a limited experience with some of them. What other successful models can ZOS use and learn from?

I know this is an older thread, but! Auction Houses are a serious pet pev of mine. As long as the auction house is NOT like Guild Wars 2 or Diablo 3, I'll be a happy camper. For example (Guild wars 2), getting wealthy in the game because you buy and sell junk all day long and then buy your way into gear is stupid and can ruin the game for everyone else. There are people who simply sat in town and played tycoon and were able to make legendary items...this makes for a very cruddy game in my opinion. Yes, Yes real world you can do this type of thing, but this is a video game! I don't want to dork around with real world concepts. I was turned off by Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3 simply because of the terrible AH systems and quit both of these games because of it.

I want to see both options available.

Action houses in Capital cities and Shops in smaller cities so that you get a "CROWDED" feeling in the smaller cities and not boring empty cities that are just there.
