Character Flexibility

Hello

One thing that ESO have claimed since they started to create ESO is that we will have more freedom to design are own characters. Unfortunatley the more I look into the game the more it seems that decisions are made for us.

For example, I want to be a sorcerer so I'm stuck to a choice of three races, unless I take a significant skill point handicap.

Is this correct or am I talking shite?

Some races have always been better catered toward sorcery than others, its just the nature of racial benefits. You can be a sorcerer and be any race, some of the racial lines just may have better traits.

Although, I have to say if you want to be a specific kind of sorcerer that is more limited. The MMO skill line base kind of restricts you to your spells available and really capitalizing in a specific school of magic.

If you're seeking to min/max your character, then your intention is to limit yourself. Don't worry so much about the tiny details. They're really not so important.

Look at it this way, if you choose a race that does not have racial skills that align with what you want to do, then save the skill points you would have put into the racial skills, and put them into class/weapon/armor/etc. skills that do fit your play style. Also, many of the racial skills will be in a category that has a soft cap, or maximum, that particular trait can hit, so most of the racial skills won't matter at the advanced ranks, because you can hit the cap with enchants, food/alchemy boosts, and skills from the other categories.

The only racial skills that don't fall into this line of thinking are the few that have no soft cap, such as Orc sprint speed boost or Imperial skill that has a chance to absorb health on hit. All the abilities that boost a resource (health/stamina/magicka) in some way, are just about going to have a soft cap.

So most racial skills will only matter at lower levels, and won't hurt you in the long run.

The fires burn. Our supplies are spent. Axes are dull, and armor is rent. The enemy approaches, our doom, they seek. We are Daggerfall Covenant. We are Orcs. Our comrades, they come, for glory they seek, at the side of our iron and steel. We will not fall.
