The title is a bit too long, but I believe it's pretty clear, I've been thinking and the races from TES are very similar to the Mythical or Real races from their mythology, see if you agree.

Nords - Norses, Vikings.
Redguards - Mayans.
Imperials - Egyptians
Bretons - Greeks
Argonians - Drakonians

And I can't recall the others, the others are, Khajiits, Bosmers, Altmers and Dunmers! I just can't remember a name of a people for them... Think Xer, think.

Most people akin the Redguards to Arabic peoples, the Imperials to the Romans (and, to an extent, Greeks), and the Bretons to other European peoples, especially the French. I've also noticed that Redguards often have Biblical-sounding names.

As for the Meri races, that's more difficult. They are sort of their own things. However, some Dunmeri names and words sound rather Greek to me, often ending in "os" or "i". Altmer names and words are sometimes a sort of mix of Latin and/or Greek, containing "x", "us", "os", or "i". Bosmer just have classic elf-sounding names.

The Ayleids, IMO, seem sort of Celtic or Germanic, with names and words containing "ei" or "ch".

By arrow. By blade.
By tooth. By claw.
By shock. By frost. By flame.
The Aldmeri Dominion will dominate Tamriel.
Our enemies will fall until the Throne is ours.

Isn't it reasonable tho, that "Bretons" were based off of "Britons". Seems plausible, given the naming similarities.

"Bretons" in real life are people who hail from Brittany (which, IIRC, is located in France).

Dunmer may be an accumulation of quite a few. Asiatic cultures strongly influence them. Just look at their clothing and spiritual/ancestral views and practices. Redguards mayan WTF sorry Xer, but the only mayan like cultures would probably be ones from black marsh and even then it is hard to say that is mainly just tribal empires in general at least I think. For the redguards it would be arabic cultures generally the middle east like during the time of the Persians. They are warriors of high skill with technological advancement beyond many others in the world of tamriel. Most of them are combinations of multiple races and some of them overlap honestly. Both nords and orcs are inspired by mythology of norse origin and norse culture. Though orcs also have a leaning towards Japanese culture and Asian styles. All of them are basically equal accumulations of real life cultures to create unique cultures, but reference and pay homage to real people.

I thinked that Imperials always looked more like Egyptians, since they're darker than the Nords and the Bretons, but not darker than the Redguards.

And for Redguards I also thought of that, Arabic, but it would sound better if a Mayan :)
