I had a feeling that there would be delays. There's a lot more work needed to be done so rather compounding their problems they took a better route. (Even if I'm mildly depressed about it) :(

There's something in this announcement that absolutely boils my blood. They are saying if you purchase and play on PC before June, you will be allowed to pay for the digital version on console for $20 AND!!! Transfer all your characters to your console version. Absolute horse****!

So, as I've been eagerly waiting to play ESO on my PS4, waiting for my chance to rush for the throne on PvP, and on Day 1 there will be tons of already-developed characters maxed out and armed to the teeth. No reward for patience I suppose.

Wow. Feel like ESO just lost a huge amount of the console player base. Very disappointing.

Getting a MMORPG to work is a pain in and of itself but on such a more limited system it's a lot worse.
Glad I'm a pc gamer.

Can't say this comes as a surprise to anyone. The lack of any information on it in the past months really told us this delay was coming. They said they need another 6 months. I think they just wanted to release it as a holiday item. Let's just hope they start the beta tests as soon as possible. PC had over a year in BETA and it still launched with half the bugs that were reported. Don't make the same mistake on the consoles Zenimax.

I completely agree with you. For those of us that don't have or can't afford to purchase a gaming laptop/pc it will put us at a large disadvantage compared to those who have played pc then transferred over.

I'm not overly impressed with the delay myself but I would rather have them delay the release to fix the "issues" than have to deal with large amounts of server downtime on release.

This being said I am 100% against the transfer option and I feel this may cause a large percentage of their potential console customers to be put off and either cancel their pre-order or just not purchase the game.

Yeah the PC transfer is bugging the hell out of me too.
I can't afford a gaming PC right now and my current laptop couldn't even run the beta, let alone the actual game so I'm more or less stuck waiting for the console version but with the transfer, PC players can just transfer their VR10 (Probably even higher by then) characters and just steamroll Cyrodiil, which will make people like me totally screwed in PvP for at least the first few months.
Not to mention all the crafting and economic advantages these people will have that they'll dominate the economy for months, if not years, setting up a monopoly of high tier gear and pricing everything at ridiculously high prices that people will HAVE to pay in order to remain on a competitive level with everyone else.

i honestly fully expect them to cancel console versions. There is a massive uproar, console players feel betrayed (explained below) and honestly, wit hthe MASSIVE titles coming out around nov-dec, ESO would have had lost ALL their hype steam for a meaningful console launch.

but more importantly is this issue: The way Zenimax handled all of this.

For over a month now console players have inquired daily on anything console news related. Zenimax met them with utter SILENCE. no screen shots, no beta announcement, no demo vids not a word from Zenimax leaving their customers in the dark. This close to "official launch" was making console players very anxious. Well then here comes the PR nightmare LEAK on their official FAQ page. For anyone posting links to the news articles and posting screen shots Zenimax resorted to Banning forum accounts, removing social media posts - anything they could do to suppress the press - which in itself is shady and unacceptable business practice.

and only when they were backed into a corner and FORCED to address the debacle that had now gone viral did they finally announce some console news. but only because they had to. and they further alienate console players by saying that if you buy the game on pc you can port over to the consoles which they previously said they would never do - this would give pc players an advantage over launch day console players!!!

Zeni is fucking up left and right with this one. Im disappointed and blown away at how shady and disrespectful to its customers they have been. this is seriously without exaggeration on par with EA.

I was eagerly waiting for the release of this on my Xbox one, very disappointed I am. I even booked a fortnight off work to really get stuck in. The thing I am wondering, will anyone be bothered with ESO when destiny is released as it now will beat ESO to launch.

its not just destiny. its practically the ENTIRE holiday line up

like i said, i WILL NOT be surprised if console development is cancelled entirely as the hype train will have already left the station

I admit that I was originally more looking forward to games such as The Division than TESO but the earlier release date meant that my excitement switched to TESO instead.

Releasing console versions in the second half of 2014 is a HUGE risk for them as I am certain that there are many more anticipated games for console due to be released.

Had TESO been released on console at the same time as pc, and console betas at a similar time as the pc betas then these problems may well have been resolved in time for release date. Yes it would have meant more work to solve pc, xbox one and ps4 issues at the same time but they will have sold more copies on console than they likely will now.

All this being said I am going to stay strong and keep my pre-order of TESO until they come out with an even stupider idea that puts me off the game completely.

HUGE DISAPOINTMENT! I understand that they need more time, but the fact that Best Buy sent out e-mails over a month ago stating that my pre-order would not be ready until December tells me that the devs have known for a while now that the game would be delayed on console. They really should have given us more information sooner.

Also, completely agree about the transfer a character from PC thing that many others have stated, it is a bad PR move, not a good one. If I had a computer capable of running this game, I would have already bought it for PC and not for my XB1. With that being said, those that do take advantage of this offer, will have a huge PvP advantage at the launch of the console version.

I have been hyped for this game ever since they announced it, but this double whammy just put a big dent in my excitement. I will have to think long about this news, but with some really good looking games coming out before the console release, I might just have to cancel my pre-order and enjoy some other games instead.

The fires burn. Our supplies are spent. Axes are dull, and armor is rent. The enemy approaches, our doom, they seek. We are Daggerfall Covenant. We are Orcs. Our comrades, they come, for glory they seek, at the side of our iron and steel. We will not fall.

2 friends & I have been waiting for ESO for years (literally the only game on our radar), I played in multiple PC Betas but even with my 2k gaming rig I didn't enjoy it without the controller & neither did the others, it was at that point we decided as a group to get it for console (1 already having an Xbox & the 2nd bought an Xbox last month for this, I was saving/waiting for official word on a launch before purchasing the Xbox myself). and now the nightmare is a reality.

@Rickter said it best, the handling of this has been outrageous & Im now left wondering if its even worth it anymore. the wait was already killing me, sure I could give in and play it on the PC but I know I wouldn't enjoy it in the same way, & of course I could get it on PC & then move to console later but at more cost (not to mention ruining the experience of divining in on even footing with my friends). I am truly at a loss.

I'm not surprised at the uproar this has caused. I'm also not surprised at the delay. We were supposed to get ESO at the end of last year, but that didn't happen. It was supposed to be PC exclusive but that didn't happen. It was supposed to be ready to launch with Beta bugs squashed but that didn't happen either. Overall this experience with Zenimax as a company has been rocky at best. While I enjoy the game and the vision for it, I would've hoped for more out of them at this point. Oh well.
