Easily the assassins... They are all trained killers and the best at what they do. On the other hand there is the Guild who might be mor e lever and stealthy but a majority of them are not elite killers like the Brotherhood.

Really? Isn't it obvious? Don't get me wrong, I love the Thieves Guild, but like DCarpOhio said, the Dark Brotherhood are trained killers, and the Thieves guild doesn't teach or accept killing. The Dark Brotherhood would have a much greater advantage, and statistically dominate in a war against the thieves... Though, you never know what can happen with an underdog. Statistical analysis isn't always how a reality turns out... Well if you consider video game lore a reality.

The Dark Brotherhood would destroy because you have multiple types of people with weapons and magic. The thieves guild daggers are purely for looks or dire situations!

I'd say the brotherhood. Mostly because they're assassins and the thieves guild are... well... thieves, not trained fighters. ;D

Zirik Helbain - Dunmer
Mordynak Ashwing - Breton Mage
Omkir Kinai - Khajiit Warrior

That's all assuming that it escalates to violence. The thieves guild not only excels at sneaking and stealing, they also excel at speechcraft. I could see the thieves guild winning over the brotherhood through diplomacy without a single dagger being drawn. But ya, if it did come to fighting, the brotherhood would smash them.

Remember to take into account that the Thieve's Guild's monetary advantage over the Brotherhood. The Guild would be able to hire mercenaries for a long time to deal with the Brotherhood's assassins (which aren't all devoted to stealth, assassins don't have to be stealthy, they just have to be good at killing). The Thieve's Guild would also have popular support from the Empire because its more beneficial to exterminate murderers before thieves. The Brotherhood would only be able to win if they somehow infiltrated and eliminated every Thieve's Guild Bastion in Tamriel simultaneously. Anything less than that and the Thieves Guild would be able to recover and dominate the assassins.
I agree that in open combat the brotherhood would win, but a war requires more than sheer military strength, and the Thieve's Guild would be able provide for every other resource needed for longer than the brotherhood, thus "outlasting" the assassins.

I would say this is a bad thing to ask since you get shunned in the thieves guild if you kill. As they say they are not the dark brotherhood. So the thieves guild would hole up and the brotherhood would chase the thieves round maybe killing a few and losing a few men in the process. So my vote is on a stale mate.

I am the shadow within a shadow. I will accept any job; however I will execute the target, or maybe even the person who hired me; it all depends on who has the most gold to give. Even then you can not trust me to let you walk away with your life.

I'm sure the Thieve's Guild would (at least temporarily) allow killing if they "went to war" with the Brotherhood. The question I want to know, however, is why the Brotherhood and Thieve's Guild would go to war in the first place.

the theives guild:
stealthy
well supplied
well connected
Dark Brotherhood:
stealthy
trained killers
blessed (although many would say cursed) by the night mother
well versed in multiple forms of combat such as magic and weaponry.

the theives guild would have stronger numbers probably due to their political influence but would doubtfully be able to fend off the dark brotherhood's assasins. if it ever came to open battle the theives guild would probably win due to their supirior wealth and mob like tactics.
the brotherhood is smart though. they would be familiar with the theive guilds methods of tracking people and fighitng so they would stay under the radar, setting traps for the guild and picking them off one by one. all it would take though for the guild to gain an upperhand is a slip up by the bortherhood. one trap not thought out or one lair they didn't hide well enough and the guild would bring them into combat much more on their terms. at that point it would be up to chance.

Just adding to the discussion that the Theives would also have the aid of the Nightingales, don't really know if this would make a difference!

Reaper and 2nd in command in the Shadow Brotherhood guild. Apply for a good guild with good people to serve your Queen in this war! This is for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC!
