This is character I created for a failed RP (different site) a year or so ago, and now tuned him for the Black Shroud RP just started on this forum. Critiques would be great, especially from "loremasters" because my grasp of the second era and Dark Elf maturation is a little weak.

Character name: Davyn Rethan
Race: Dunmer
Class: Witchunter
Gender: Male

Looks: Of medium height and slender but sinewy build, Davyn certainly doesn't look like a physical specimen. Nor is he too pleasant-looking, with a faint vertical scar running almost the length of his face millimeters from his left eye and a long, crooked nose. However, those who underestimate him quickly learn the error of their judgment. Outside of battle, Davyn wears a set of deep black robes. When prepared for battle, he dons a scaled helm and breastplate with elven style leggings and bracers.

Personality: Davyn is a young-to-middle aged Dark Elf, born in Blacklight in 2E535. There, the Redoran Dunmer keep to their traditions. Davyn's father was a Oathman of House Redoran, and so was expected of Davyn. Davyn was a free spirit, however, and the more he learned about the wider world, the more the yearned for more than the antediluvian city of his birth. Despite the warnings of his family of the harshness of Tamriel, especially to Dunmer, he left Blacklight in 2E570 to explore the world and seek out his destiny.

At first cheerful and optimistic (and naive), Davyn quickly learned the harshness of life alone. When he arrived in Windhelm, he didn't exactly get a warm welcome. Continuing westward as he had heard that Daggerfall was much more accommodating than Skyrim, he slowly made it as far as Dragonstar, just over the border into Hammerfell. The journey was long and arduous, and he endured countless shakedowns and thieves. He was nearly broke and depressed, and even though he was so close to his goal, he decided it was time to return home. However, he was attacked, mugged, and left for dead just outside of the city.

Davyn fell into a depression following that incident, and became cynical and disillusioned. He has not yet tried to return to Morrowind, and instead dwells in the slums in Dragonstar, doing odd jobs and mercenary work to live off of. He is quiet, but swift to act when pushed too far, and most citizens of Dragonstar, even Dunmer, have little to do with him unless for a job.

Combat Prefs: Davyn's speciality is mage-killing, especially necromancers. He fights fire with fire, specializing in conjuration of daedra. His primary weapon, however, is the bow, which he has used since he was a child. When the fight is drawn into close quarters, however, he uses a light mace in his primary hand to bludgeon and stun his opponents, and a dagger in his off hand to deliver swift death. He is also a passable alchemist, mixing his own healing and stamina potions.

Hail friend! nice character btw, nice and short! my fav, lovely description and a fellow witch hunter.

I like that you seem to show that he is weak in parts (being mugged and mentally depressed). Though i'm finding it hard to relate to your character and i am trying really hard to! but *just* saying he has depression isn't something i can relate to :c. I like how you have made his issue a mental one rather than saying 'his parents died' which alot of people fall into that trap, expecting the reader to go "oh thats horrible, i feel sorry for this character" when it doesn't work like that :P. We have to feel empathy for your character (not sympathy) so make us feel for him, how has the depression effected his life? how has it made things worse? stuff like that. You have chosen a challenging subject with depression and all i can say is "go for it".

You have really made a pretty good start and if you manage to make me feel empathy for you character due to his mental condition i'll be mighty impressed! Good luck friend ^-^ i look forward in seeing this character improve and develop

Thanks quib! I can definitely see what you're saying. I will keep that in mind and work in some real complications to Davyn's stories and RPs that involve his depression and attempt to explore it further.
