Does ESO have "too many" options?

I've always wondered how ESO players felt when they get introduced to Tamriel, there is SO much to see and do. I actually wanted to bring up a recent example, I have been playing ESO since beta like many of you and I initially started a Wood Elf Templar wanting to do major deepz in fights, but sadly I wasn't seeing the numbers I thought I would be seeing. I ended up rolling a couple different classes, trying out a bunch of new combinations but at this point, it feels like there are SO many god damn options that I can't get myself to play one way anymore. Now some would argue that it’s great that we have so many options, but I wanted to have a discussion on this topic.

(I'm not sure if we're allowed to link personal videos, but I made a video that fits this discussion really well, so I hope it's OK!)

I don't really have this problem.

In beta I used to play an Altmer Sorcerer but that didn't suit me too well so I took an Argonian Templar because I do love tanking and this is also the route I took for this character. Full out tank.

This has caused me to ignore all other options though which is a bit of a shame, at first. After a while I did realise this was the right decision.

He is in death as he was in life : rather screwed.

Nah! I like to jump from one alt to another. I like choices and making diverse characters. I do have favorites though. I am most in love with my redguard 1 hand/shield dragon night and my sorceress altmer who uses a destruction staff.

I do hate that we can't pick a second weapon until level 15 though. I am finding it hard to level the 2nd weapon because the monsters are too hard to kill with such low level skills at level 15 and the lower level monsters don't grant you enough experience to level your second weapon. If someone has found a better way to deal with this second weapon leveling problem I would love to know because my characters go from awesomeness to lame every time I weapon swap.

ETA: I tried to watch the video but it just kept trying to load. I have been having problems with You Tube lately though. I think one of my browser plug ins isn't working right.

They did this for the more elder scrolls fans that like playing the story and everything so that they can spend a lot of time doing all those things if they dont want to be involved in pvp.

Yeah I think there are way too many choices in the skills menu. Perhaps too many variety of food and drink items to loot too. The provisioning could be much simpler, automatically giving better buffs as you leveled instead of needing different mats. I hate having to use 2 skill points just to keep provisioning viable >Lv15. Other than that, there are too many weapon choices in the skill menu, and we could've used the option for just plain ol'-fashioned metal weaponry too, like a medieval knight, with bow for ranged combat; the present problem being it isn't powerful enough. It was viable in Skyrim. ESO forces you to use offensive magic instead.

Other than that, I think they did a good job of balancing the number of choices. But this promise of "spellcrafting" has me worried for the possibility of too many choices in that as well. The spellcrafting in Oblivion had too many choices, and you had to keep making new ones as you leveled up to keep the spells as strong as possible. My list of known spells had hundreds of them. They could've had a system that automatically increased the spell power as you leveled, and that would be a good thing for ESO. However, I am pessimistic about that occurring. And what about the limit of 5 keys? If we craft our own spells, will we get 5 more keys for them? If not, I think that's pretty much limiting the usefulness of spellcrafting. I'm really expecting an overwhelming number of choices in that as well.

That said, I think when ppl see these threads that itemize the things wrong with ESO, some readers get the wrong impression. So I think I need to add: I love this game. No game is perfect, so plz don't try hard to make it perfect (that's impossible). I think they did a pretty good job of it, deserve lots of kudos, and I just want to play ESO 80% of my waking time (I wish).

I know what you mean, so many options makes me make want to level 10+ alts at the same time. I had the same problem with WoW, so I ended up maxing every class, that's just part of the fun xD

It doesn't. If you want an mmo with less options go play something else. The mass amount of options makes it easier to play the way you want without thinking "well I wanna be a Templar, but they kinda suck ass" everything is good.

Vote Isilmo for Queen!

To me, I can't have too many choices. I'm not trying to min/max so it's not a big deal if i spend a few points on something that doesn't have as big an impact as I thought it would. I would say that quite a few of the weapon and class abilities are pretty much the same with a different coat of paint.

I am currently waiting for the Xbox release but I still can't count how many times my mains theory craft has changed. I Just have that many more hours I can put into the game by making my alts.
