Does Nirn resemble Earth a little too much?

Here's a fun little theory with little to no merit or evidence to back it up, BUT it's something to talk about. Even I don't take it seriously.

So I was thinking about how the Nords have a really strong cultural bond to ancient cultures of northern European nations. Also, the Akaviri seem to be culturally similar to that of the Japanese and other Asian cultures.

TES could be a fictional story that tells of the beginnings of Earth in an age of beings who were here before a mass extinction occurred, wiping the planet clean of most life and starting over. So in this theory, the story of TES takes place in a time of "precursor" beings. After the mass extinction, the survivors were probably just a few men and women who repopulated Nirn and renamed it Earth at the beginning of the new age.

The continent placements could also be a guess at where land masses were before they came to form the super continent of Pangea.

So, is Nirn totally based on fantasy or is it a fictional account of the extremely ancient prehistory of Earth? I was wondering if anyone else had ever had this thought.

I think this is a cool idea, especially considering that if the only survivors were beautiful Nord and Redgaurd women plus one very lucky Breton man, we could all be descendants of the Aldmer. Just a fun idea. Post your thoughts or add onto the story. Have fun with it!

...I would've preferred the only survivors being an old orc lady and an unlucky Breton man....

Nirn is not Earth. It exists in a completely different (and fictional) universe.

That said, it's certainly an interesting idea.

No.

Nirn is smaller than Earth and is in a different solar system (Mundus). It's not even a true solar system. Outer space is pretty much Oblivion. The sun and stars are holes in that which lead to Aetherius. The other planets are the Aedra who remained in Mundus after the creation of it.

At least, that's the info I've gathered. I could be wrong.

Long story short: TES lore is confusing. What we do know is that the TES universe and its natural laws are almost nothing like our own.

The map of Tamriel certainly resembles Europe/Asia, but with Australia on the other side (Summerset) if you look closely.

Wait... why is this in the AD section? This should be moved.

De-wad your panties, Sordak. I know Nirn isn't Earth. I just had an interesting idea that I thought people might enjoy. Think of this as a fantasy world inside a fantasy world, i.e. fan fiction. It's supposed to be fun to think about. Is it possible for you to have fun Sordak?

No, not even close, for example are sun and stars a hole to the plane of magic? No, well in elder scrolls they are, and expeditions using spaceships have been done before the most notable being reman expedition and the altmeri expedition using sunbird their spaceship or sort. But it is an interesting idea nonetheless.

Uh.... if Earth had 2 moons, portals to plains of Oblivion, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, ancient Dwemer ruins/deathtraps, Elven ruins, and all the rest of that jazz... well I wouldn't need to play ES. I'd be outside trying to find good loot, and run like a little girl if I saw anything resembling a frost troll.

But my opinion on Nirn being a fictional magical precursor to Earth. Well, that sounds a lot like Lord of the Rings to me. I mean, it was called Middle Earth for a reason. Also, if you know about the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ages in LoTR... you see the slow progression of man and the slow regression of all great things of "magic."

nah.
TES is the dream of a mad dreamer who cant awake.
That is also our unconscious desire to spend time in the setting.

Earth is not a precursor to earth. our sun is an actual ball of burning gases, instead of a hole in the sky.

Dar Zhal dont use the "think of it different" argument on me.
There simply is no resemblance.
Yes there are a few concepts taken from earth. But they are warped in such a way that they are almost unrecognizeable.
Almost everything on Nirn is completeley alien to us.
we just dont notice because in the game we are accustomed to bs.

But if you were there youd be baffled by the sheer number of basic understandings that suddenly no longer work.

That's actually really interesting. I didn't know it was a dream.
