Am I the only one who misses the ability to challenge other players to duels by right-clicking them and clicking the duel function? I'm an RPer and a PVPer and I'd just like to be able to ICly AND OOCly shut people up when they begin to brag about skills by making them back it up no matter the faction. ;)

I personally would like not to see this function in the game cause then you have a group who sit's outside cities and as soon as your in range begin to spam duel challenges which I found to say the least madding I didn't say anything to you why are you trying to duel me just to prove your a better PvP player if anything they should make something along the lines of having an arena like the one in Cyrodiil's Capital you want to fight put some gold on the line enter the arena and to the victor goes the spoils

Maybe some "arena" option... But I really don't like the "duel spam zone on city gate" something positive at all. They could use some 1x1 phased out instance to things like that.

Maybe they can code it to where one is only able to have a duel in certain areas of the map, ie. anywhere but near faction gates and battlefields in Cyrodiil (so they won't be immune to enemy damage).

I'd personally like to at least have it in the game, though I won't cry buckets if they choose not to implement it. In the case that they do, I'd want to be able to turn it off in your settings, so that if you really can't be bothered an army of kids can't spam-invite you to duel whilst you're just trying to get to the freaking mailbox.

As much as I agree that there is nothing as annoying as a level 3 claiming to own a town and that he's the most awesome warrior Tamriel has ever known, and that there are few things more satisfying than shutting those people up, there is a huge difference between actions, stories and skills that are part of roleplay, and in-game mechanics. A huge difference. But that's a debate for another thread.

I would totally want this to be in the game. I mean if there aren't any other forms of human combat before PvP you can get rusty and/or you can lose track of what builds work in PvP. Dueling is just a great way to get a taste for what is to come when you will step into the Cyrodil zone. Personally, I love it so that when a friend is yapping on about how much better he is than I we can just duel. Win or lose. . at least he'll shut up. xD

I suppose the RP-side I got too used to NWN2's custom worlds and the ability to fight using dice rolls and whatnot RP-wise, or simply using skills...that because YOU worked on the gameplay and actually went and did what your character claims ICly they can do...you were able to ICly claim to have those skills/abilities. I was spoiled by that sense of...not realism but consequence? Since there won't be dice-rolling for RP fights unless people use an external system, I don't really have enough trust that people will ACTUALLY give and take in fights, so Dueling is my next favorite option.
Kilivin's also correct, though. From a gameplay standpoint I'd rather go up against friends privately and figure out a good build/playstyle for use in PVP in Cyrodiil than be thrust straight into warfare with an untested build and not really be able to discuss with those who defeat me just what is wrong about the build/how I'm using it.

I actually have a solution to this.
I remember hearing that there will NOT be a dueling feature available at launch,
but I'd like to point out the city of Kvatch in Cyrodiil.

Before it was destroyed, it actually had an arena in the east part of the city. Maybe we can use it in 1v1 duels against other alliances?

I like what Trisk said, an option to automatically decline duel invites so if you don't want to duel you won't be bothered.

But you can also just do 1vs1 with other factions in Cyrodiil as long as no one jumps in. Unfortunately you probably wouldn't be able to duel your own faction if this is the case :(

I think having the option to dual is a good thing but I agree that being challenged to a dual over and over by people I don't know or don't even see who they are (ie. in a town full of people) is extremely annoying, especially when Im trying to do something. I have played games that implemented this system decently though. As was mentioned above, there is simply an option in your settings that you automatically deny challenges, then they cant send you a challenge to begin with. It works well in that respect. The one thing I would like to see added to a dual system though, is a lvl balancer, to prevent these idiots that are always challenging everyone thats 15+ lvls below them.

Personally I think these challenges should be limited to certain areas though, that way if your in that area and you have the option turned on, your saying your up for it. This prevents the mass confusion of duals in the middle of town. Unfortunately, I don't see 1v1 working in a PvP area. Its been tried before and it either doesn't work because of interference in the 1v1s or it inevitably ruins the larger PvP because all people want to do is 1v1. For this reason, I think a controlled arena is the only way it could be done in Cyrodiil.

Duels is a very good way to sharpens your skills or just to give someone a good beating. It would be a shame not to see it implemented.

that sound like a good idea...an arena would be very fun and fit in with the lore...and how awesome would betting on a match be!
