    Appearance

    • Facial Characteristics
Similar to the other members of her race, Aro is dark and ashen- with clearly defined angles in her facial features. A long, rectangular-shaped face is accompanied by a pair of high cheekbones with a narrow, pointed, chin. Her hair is a dark, near-black charcoal, cut long or short (depending on the season), and is usually worn loose, either parted in the middle, or off to the left side. Large, slanted, crimson-red eyes- characteristic of her race- pierce through a veil of short, dark lashes, and rest beneath thin, arched eyebrows that give her a look of immutable intrigue. Projecting between her angled eyes is a well-defined nose that comes to a playful point. It might drag any onlooking eyes lower, to a pair of full, wide, and dusky lips, which are easily drawn into an unnerving smile, and are often pressed together when she is in thought.

      Body Description
Aro stands at above average height for a dunmeri female. Broad, rounded shoulders add width to her chest and back, but her generally lean and lithe form adds tenderness to her appearance. A small waist and generous hip width add some curvature to her (mostly) solid physical appearance. Her neck seems slightly elongated, though truthfully, it is just bony. Either way, it gives her a more elegant, and sometimes sickly, appearance. Slender fingers, which she often keeps covered in a leather glove, may suggest more enigmatic tendencies. She carries herself with a semi-disciplined poise- standing tall with conviction on occasion, but can be caught slouching when relaxing, as if she'd forgotten her manners. There is a stern, inflexibility about her, and might not make her the most approachable to strangers.

      Clothing Style
Still adorns the armor she wore when she still belonged to her clan, although it has since been modified to be more effective in wild terrain. The chestpiece is exquisitely crafted, durable lacquered horse leather, with a rich black dye uniform all throughout. Both the chestpiece and breeches are reinforced with round iron studs. She also owns a fur lined hooded cloak that trailed down to her ankles, and a leather mask the covers her mouth and nose- both used to help conceal her identity and protect her from Morrowind’s harsh weather.

      Accessories
She would prefer to adorn herself in a variety of silks and furs, if she were ever to give herself a noble’s luxury again. However, since she is now nomadic, she is typically only seen wearing only the necessities of travel. Occasionally, she can be caught with a decorative necklace or bracelet, most of which are kept with her for their sentimental value, but she does not wear these often.

    Personality
    • Aro might not be quick to communicate with strangers that she is a skeptical, obstinate, and devious individual, but she is. Largely a part of her upbringing, she is well-spoken and civilized. Most pleasantries received from her is, in part, due to a training, and self-regulation, over the years, which led to her being able to manipulate her words and gestures to seem believable. Although she prides herself in her ability to manipulate, if she doesn’t like you, she will make sure you know it, so long as it doesn't hinder any ongoing business or trade agreements.

    Backstory
    • Short Version
Left House Hlaalu three years prior, of which she had been a part of the majority of her life. Always on the move, now a traveler, as she believes execution could be waiting for her at any conceivable moment. Whatever enemy her parents made- who were executed by the Morag Tong- might be aiming to finish off the last remaining blood of the Varnan-Dral household. Aro hasn’t considered returning to the clan since she left.

      Long Version

      [Image: 100px-ON-icon-Ebonheart_Pact.png] [Image: MW-banner-House_Hlaalu.png] [Image: 100px-Dunmer_Crest.png]

Born in 2E 479 (2nd Frostfall) under the sign of the Serpent, Aro was raised in comfort as a noble under House Hlaalu. She was nurtured and cared for by strict parents, two elder siblings, and their extended family. The household worshipped its ancestors faithfully, along with the Tribunal- and so did she, though later she would switch her faith in secrecy to the Daedra Vaermina. Over time, within her household, she learned proper noble’s manners & etiquette, bow mastery, hand-to-hand physical combat, locksport, how to utilize a variety of poisons, and became fluent in both the Dunmeri and Tamrielic languages. All this and a little bit of magick.

Aro was a troublemaker growing up, and was notorious in her community for getting into fights with other girls. Interest in the opposite gender arose around this time, and she succumbed to the filthy pleasures they could provide around age fifteen. It was in a few of the following instances where she learned that she had a peculiar delight in causing her unsuspecting ‘victims’ an obscene amount of pain, and always seemed disappointed that they didn’t enjoy it as much as she did. Here she got yet another reputation: the ‘torturer’. The male youths she had grown to be close with in her youth began to avoid her. Even when she grew into a woman, the men who lived in the area consciously neglected any desire they may have had for her, and so she began to settle for getting her fill from travelling dunmeri men.

During this time, she was trained- her skills honed- and her secondary occupation became a well-kept household secret, and would commit heinous acts of torture in Vaermina’s name. After bringing misfortune to one too many persons of importance, the Council was notified, her family informed, and Aro was thus required to remain celibate- at least where torture wasn’t involved. Her interrogating services were commonly requested via the black market, and by slave-owners, but was rarely utilized by Hlaalu itself due to its spying nature.

Aro’s primary occupation had her assisting in the maintenance of her family’s ranch, which imported horses from Cyrodil. Here she was put in charge of public relations and paperwork, with any further interest she had in the business being purely optional. When interrogation work was thin, Aro took up an interest in handling the animals herself, and actively learned from those currently employed. In time, she became of the ranch’s finest trainers, although she would refuse take on apprentices.

Starting in 2E 567, five years after the emergence of the Khanatan flu, Aro’s blood-kin began to suffer the effects of the illness, one by one, dropping like flies over the course of fifteen years. To top it all off, her parents, who had fortunately remained in good health, were executed by the Morag Tong- proabably because they hadn’t fallen prey to the flu fast enough in their enemy’s eyes. After this series of events, she knew that there was nothing she could possibly do. Feeling helpless, and uncertain of her place within the clan without the majority of her kin for support, Aro became further distrusting of the other Houses- including her own- along with the those Hlaalu associated with.

Aro left the House shortly after the death of her eldest, and last, sibling, taking only what she needed with her. She stashed away a hefty sum of inherited coin in an undisclosed location before heading out beyond Hlaalu-controlled territories to find a living elsewhere. The remainder of her belongings, and her inheritance, reside at her family’s manor, now hers by right and claim. Aro hasn’t returned home since she left.

    Best Memory
    • "I struck a bargain with this nord once. I told him that he wouldn't have to pay his debts to my kin if he handed over his children so that we could sell them and make our money back. Fair, right? I asked for all of his future children too, as a show of good faith that he’d never do it again. Like a good father, he forked the little ones over, and then I took a jagged blade to his.. mm.. you know. He didn't survive that, and I made sure no one would find the body. At least his kids were alright. They learned fast, and sold high."

    Worst Memory
    • ”There was this one time I willingly let myself get beaten within an inch of my life. Yeah... I don’t want to talk about it either.”

    Skills
    • Physical Combat: Recurve (Ebony) Bow, Daggers (Ebony & Orcish), Knives, Blow Gun & Darts (Short Range), Fists (Hand to Hand Combat), Iron Claw, Speed (Agility), Poisons (Damage Health/Drain Stamina)
    • Magicka: Adept in Alteration. Apprentice in Illusion, Destruction & Restoration.
    • Defense: Black Lacquered Leather Armor ( Style: Front, Back, Side | Mask )
    • Proficiencies: Bow Mastery, Mounted Combat, Torture

    Challenges
    • Overcome the unsettling deaths of her closest of kin.
    • Decide whether or not to risk returning home.
    • Establish a working relationship with Draskil Velathi.

    Character Timeline

    • 2E 582 (Present Year) - Hears of Draskil Velathi and his renowned mercenary band. Undergoes initiation to join his group.
    • 2E 580 - Begins work as a beast hunter.
    • 2E 579 - Last sibling dies from Knahatan flue. Aro leaves House Hlaalu.
    • 2E 578 - Parents are executed by assassins.
    • 2E 574- Marks the beginning of the gruesome deaths of Aro’s immediate family, all victims of the Knahatan Flu.
    • 2E 572 - The Akaviri invaders were killed when Morrowind mysteriously became flooded. Despite the extensive flooding, almost no Dunmer people were injured or killed.
    • 2E 567 - Marks the beginning of the gruesome deaths of Aro’s extended family, all victims of the Knahatan Flu.
    • 2E 560 - The Knahaten Flu emerged. It kills everything that isn’t Argonian, who are immune to disease. This strange immunity to the flu led some to believe the Argonians were responsible for it in some way, including Aro.
    • 2E 501 - Started work in family’s business. Began practicing the art of torture.
    • 2E 497 - First heard rumors of the Dark Brotherhood.
    • 2E 496 - Sadistic tendencies begin to make themselves known.
    • 2E 494 - First intimate experience.
    • 2E 479 (Born) - Varnan-Dral Aro is born under House Hlaalu.

I like the way you made your character. The setting out of it. The Story itself is well made and it is obvious that you put time into it. Maybe put a bit more work with the challenges that she faces. Overall a very good job. =)

Hello Samf! and welsome to the Role Playing forums! hope you enjoy your stay!

I love your presentation first of and hurray for character art! awesome. i think i might make some for mine .... if i didn't hate colouring so much :P. this page is very neat and this leads to my first little niggle. (it might sound stupid but hey it is only a niggle :P). it's too neat! i mean this through your use of the spoiler buttons, everything else is awesome, the hyperlinks, some colour! fantastic.

ok now for some feedback :D. i disagree agree with giving your character an alignment, i do not believe morality is as black and white that there is only 9 types of it. by saying your morality i feel you might use the words 'netural evil' to judge your characters actions rather than your characterisation!

the clothing! ok looking at the back of the armor (via the picture you showed) i noticed it only had a strap covering the bum! please please please tell me your character wears something around her legs and butt! but other than that the armor does look kick ass! did you make it or find it online?

I like your bio, but well, what is your characters purpose? what is she going to do after these events? if she going to find the assassins that killed her parents? how did she feel when she heard the news of her parents death? what is she doing now? what is her passion? i just feel a bit lost with your character and she has a lot of potential! maybe make us try to feel for her, i know it might be harder seeing that she is 'evil' but hey every body loves a good villain :)

Love how your best memory is ''the first time i did X in job Y'' like someone making an assassin and making there best memory "the first mark i ever killed" it makes your character very one dimensional by doing that i feel, so well done. on another note. What!? why would she do that to the poor nord!! XP

thank you for not making your character a master of any of her skills, well she is 103 so i bet she could of mastered one of her skills but she does seem careless! maybe with the dagger or poison? it does seem she could have a passion for those crafts

your statement at the end "I'm still not too keen on my ES lore, but I'm digging as best I can!". i for one love the lore, i use to go on wikis and read on it almost every day! but! i for one, when reading other peoples bios. couldn't. care. less about the lore. and i have different views on how certain types of lore should get treated. for example in morrowind and oblivion by reading the in game books you were told that the dragons had pretty much died out spare a few. skyrim had dragons and was the better for it! i always think of character development first and that is far more important. i personally when creating a character purposly try to bend lore in many ways! sure i could make a nord barbarian or an altmer high mage! they would fit in with the lore quite well but man! is that boring! remember follow the lore but do not restrain yourself with it

anyway pretty awesome character. i am looking forward in seeing this character develop. good job

P.S.
i can't believe i forgot to mention this! i love that you've add challenges for my character but i feel that it can be better. explain how each of these effect your character and tie them in with a character weakness

@Plague_Walrus - Thank you very much! I will add more challenges to the list once I discover them for myself, definitely! I'm still figuring this character out as we speak, and what a learning experience it has been!

@quib - Thanks for the welcome! Now, here I will go about answering everything you touched on:

Spoiler Tag - Awh, you don't like my spoiler buttons? Ehehe. I used it so that the post wasn't too incredibly long, and so it gave people a choice (and a kind of interactivity) to decide for themselves how much they'd like to read. I admit that a spoiler tag probably wasn't necessary for the 'Best Memory' section, so I will probably get rid of that.

Alignment - Then perhaps I will change it to 'morality'? I usually just give my characters an alignment so that I can get a feel of, exactly that, my characters morals, and how they would generally see the world and go about things. It's not exactly set-in-stone, but it is a useful guideline in my character creation process!

Clothing - I actually didn't even notice that. Bahaha. Also, I was thinking of that very same thing- that I should probably link a set of leather breeches so people don't think she only wears the chestpiece! I can assure you that she DOES wear something under that, usually insulating under-armor. To answer your question, I found the armor online, and I believe it was crafted by that person on DA, Lagueuse.

Purpose - Perhaps I will write little side-stories and post them in my character blog (I didn't feel it necessary to post every single little detail, because then that story would have dragged on much longer than I'd have liked it to). Figuring out her reactions to these events is something on my to-do list for sure.

To sort of answer your questions, however, so you know I've at least though about them:

  • What is she going to do?
After she left House Hlaalu, she became a traveler and took on varying jobs as she went from town to town. The most frequent jobs she would take were bounties for stray/ravaging/dangerous animals or beasts. This earned her a kind of notoriety as a beast hunter and tracker. That is how she got a large majority of her income.

    What is she doing now?
Currently, she is being initiated into that mercenary band I kept mentioning. It's actually an on-going skype role-play between myself and my friend.

Is she going to find the assassins that killed her parents?
Most likely not, since it was a Morag Tong operation and she was forced to let it happen. Since the writs are legal, there is nothing she can do about it. Also, she wasn't exactly aware of every single business practice her parents participated in, so the person who sent the Tong after them in the first place could be anyone that they could have possibly associated with. What Aro hasn't considered, was that maybe the culprit was someone related to one of the person's she'd tortured. I left this plotline open and indistinct on purpose.

How did she feel when her parents died?
Lost, confused, uncertain of her future within the clan. She was expecting them to die at some point, since the rest of her family was dropping like flies. However, she didn't anticipate the Morag Tong swooping in to get the job done. She was kind of like 'Uh.. Okay, then! Wasn't expecting that. Well, shit, now what am I supposed to do?' Aro got the feeling that the people behind it intended to finish off her house, so she packed up her things and left, just to get away from the situation.

Best Memory - It didn't matter to her -why- she was even doing it. Point of the matter was that she was told to interrogate this person and come up with a way to get back the money he owed to her client. She tortures for the sake of torturing, and she does it in Vaermina's name, as a part of her faith to her. Any excuse to torture is an excuse good enough, and she's very careful about it, even if it does get messy. If someone gives her a name and a reason, that person is fucked- assuming she manages to capture them!

Master - I planned on only giving her one combat mastery, and I chose archery for that. She has some training in those three schools of magicka (Alteration, Illusions, Restoration), but she only knows a small handful of spells- magick wasn't a focus of her training within Hlaalu. I'm also thinking she might be an alchemist on the side, especially now that she's out and about in the world, traveling the landscapes and likely coming across the ingredients for her poisons daily. So, she might be an apprentice in that. I don't make my character super OP in anything, haha. All the weapons she has, she utilizes when it is appropriate, but she only REALLY knows her shit with the bow.

Lore - When I mention lore, all I'm actually concerned about is whether I used the lore in a manner that is appropriate. I understand that I don't have to follow cliches, and I'd rather not. Such as the cliche that my character might be hell-bent on seeking vengeance for her parents because they were assassinated. Actually, no. She is NOT hell-bent on vengeance. To be honest, she doesn't give that many fucks. However, if such an opportunity were to come along where she could figure out what happened, and who issued the execution, she would go for it, but it is not her primary concern. She's trying to get away from the situation entirely, not leap back into it.

Challenges - I will get to it at a later point. *nod* I just have to think about it some more. I know they are things my character is concerned with, but as to how she's going to react to them, or how they actually effect her, I have yet to see.

Thanks for your feedback, and I hope this helps you understand a little bit more of what I was trying to go for!

Oh, don't worry! She was probably upset and she may have cried from the shock, but she's IS a torturer, and is hardened to many things. She's already subjected people to things some might consider worse than death. Aro would be happy that they died so simply, because the things she does to people is just.. grotesque. Perhaps one day she will be motivated to find the person who killed them, but as for right now-- not that concerned about it. She's just trying to get by without her family, her house, or her luxuries. You go from being nobility to a lone traveler in under a day. That a BIG change!

the morag tong is accepted and honored.
The dunmer mindset does not accept revenge against the tong. It is considered a death most honorable.

It is all part of the rules.
It is not seen as a failure.
The game of the houses dictates its use. It is implied by all the houses to the same extent.

I didn't mean that she would find the Morag Tong assassins and get revenge on them- I know that the Tong are accepted and revered. She isn't even interested in revenge. I meant to imply that she might be interested in finding out who had submitted the execution order on her parents, which would may be difficult to do. That is something she might be interested in knowing, but even if she did find out, she probably wouldn't do anything about it. It was her parent's issue, and she fully intended for that issue to die with them.

@MaxxRocker - Perhaps you'll get to see her in action soon enough! I'm working on organizing a 1x1 RP for her on the forum here. ;3

@Triskele - I'm always dedicated to my RP and my characters. It's a large part of what I like about games like this! Making my characters fit into the world, yet remaining unique, is always a challenge, and it's always fun!

@I. Acha - *blushes* Oh, thank you thank you! I spent the past three or four days fine-tuning this profile, though I do want to give @Sordak some credit, because after discussing some Dunmer lorestuffs with him, I had this burst of creativity, and I got her entire backstory written out in under an hour. I'll keep adding to her profile as I RP her, most definitely, and I will keep her 'Recent History' updated!

You have certainly made a very creative and decorative format for your bio! It lays everything out quite nicely so things are easy to read and look up. It also reminds me of flowers due to the colors and the ornate line breaks. Although it is quite a contrast to your neutral evil sadistic Dunmer!

I like how much detail you've put into your character, and it certainly works for her! Your description and artistic piece definitely visualizes her appearance and mannerisms very well to the reader. She's quite a frightening dunmer to be sure.

You mentioned that her chestpiece from her clan is made from horse leather. Assuming you refer to Hlaalu, perhaps you could choose a creature more native to the alien-lands of Morrowind. Horse are rare in Morrowind apparently, so most armors aren't likely crafted from their hides. Alternative materials may be netch, guar, alit, kagouti, or durzog. Of course this isn't a substantial point, but it may give her a more Dunmer-Morrowind flavor as opposed to western Tamriel origins.

In terms of things you could potentially expanding on: I'm curious to see how she ended up switching to Vaermina from the Tribunal. Exposures to different forms of worship from the norm are usually quite interesting stories. Did she find an old dusty book in her family's library depicting that daedra and was inspired by the works? Did she meet a worshipper who she admired and was inspired to follow the same deity as him/her? Did she hear Vaermina's soothing whispers in her sleep? This could be expanded on to further express her different mindset than her family.

Anyways, great bio and I look forward to seeing Aro find her place in the world!

@Horizon Seeker - Hey there! Thanks for reading! Pardon me whilst I reply to your post in detail:

Formatting- I love formatting posts on forums. It's a thing! I've also been using these line breaks for years, and they just seem to work for just about everything. So I love them! They are a nice contrast, huh? Happy

Detail- Visual descriptions + text descriptions = gives people the most accurate idea of the character. The image is for the visual people, and the text is for those who like to read. Combining the two gives you even more information!

Scary Lady- Quite frightening, for sure- at least when the situation calls for it. To be honest, she's quite normal when in public. It's when you get her alone that you have to watch out. A predator, she is. Devil That, and she's an oclophobe. Oh wait, I didn't write that down? Bahah! I can't give everything away about her!

Pony Leather- It was a bit of a stretch saying her family had a horse ranch, but if I imported them from Cyrodil, then there's some chance that could be possible, especially since it's Hlaalu. Here's an excerpt from RP with her:

Aro Wrote:"One of the horses at the ranch fell ill and passed on, so I had its hide turned into armor. I've never seen horse leather armor, you know, since they are not native to Morrowind, so I was taking a shot in the dark. It's surprisingly water resistant and more durable than any other leathers I've worn. The lacquered finish makes it stiff, and it makes it almost as protective as plate armor in some cases."

So, it's less from her clan, and more.. she skinned a horse, brought it to a leather worker, and had them make armor out of it. And Durzog's are cute... I can't have one as a pet, can I? :X

Religion Swap- I'm curious to know how this happened as well. I've been brainstorming, but I don't have anything solid just yet. I've left it ambiguous and open to whatever comes up. For now. Aro doesn't dislike the Tribunal, and still believes in them, she just doesn't pray to them regularly anymore. She has simply found another deity whom she feels she can relate to more, if that makes sense?

As to how she was exposed to it, well, in her line of work, she'd have made acquaintances with a bunch of questionable characters, so any one of those interactions could have led to something, which may have led to her picking up interest in Daedra worship. I've also had her having these.. odd dreams. Nightmares really, but they do not trouble her that much. I indirectly link them to Vaermina, and she's been having these dreams since she began paying tribute to her. (Aro refers to Vaermina as female.)

I hope this helps! Thanks a bunch for your feedback. I learn a lot, the more I get to explain. :3
