Elder Scrolls Online: Could it be Pay-To-Play? - By Zarxces

I am back with a much more debatable topic... should TESO be P2P or F2P? (Pay to play and Free to play) I tackled a few topics that I thought were notable if TESO decides to go the P2P route. Leave comments with your opinions. I would love to hear some different insight on the matter!

I hope you enjoy the video, and I hope to see you on the channel!

Thanks again,
- Zarxces

P.S. Hail Sithis!

Hope you don't have to play. Or at least not a lot.

In all honesty I stopped watching the video after 1:40 due to the fact your entire points went against eachother.

You talk about how awesome Bethseda is soo good at releasing content to a Single Player game even after a year..

Yet you go to say that they will go to Pay to Play so they can release new content..

Hmm weird...

Also SWTOR has a F2P option, however the game as a whole is not F2P.

They don't really contradict one another, Pay-to-Play could assist them in speeding up the release in content. I wasn't talking about HUGE chunks of content, but small patches that include a new weekly event, or monthly event or even a small dungeon or raid. MMO's are expensive games to run, and a P2P can without a doubt keep it going, not that a F2P can't, but you can have more money to work with to produce more content. Notice how there aren't a lot of little patches with Skyrim, Oblivion, etc. Maybe bug fixes of the sort, but it's generally large pieces of content I.E. Dawnguard or the newly arriving Dragonborn.

Anywho, thanks for giving the video a try and I hope you see my point!
Thanks!

I do see your point, and I completely agree that a Pay to Play structure offers them more flexibility when it comes to new content, they have the money to pay their developers.

In all honesty I for see TESO being Pay To Play at first, and eventually becoming F2P, Pay to Play models are slowly dying they are not what people are looking for anymore.

Companies like ArenaNet have set the bar when it comes to F2P games and they are doing extremely well with keeping the Content Live.

SWTOR for example, I was at the Guild Summit they held and they said they were going to have new content with more storyline pushed within the year. With 1 months remaining and no advertising of new content, I don't see it happening. That shows you that the Pay to play structure doesn't always work.

Yes they did go F2P just recently but you need to take into consideration all the profits they made prior to the Free To Play even before the Server Merge. What did that Money go to? it didn't go to new content, sadly it didn't go to fixing Game Breaking Bugs...

The way of MMOs is Buy to Play with Microtransactions. Diablo 3 set the bar for this, with their Real Money Auction House. As much as people are against it, Blizzard is basically printing their own money with that right now. Guild Wars has the Black Lion Market. SWTOR now has the Cartel Market (which is friggin awesome if word gets out people who like Star Wars and played SWTOR, will come back to SWTOR for this least for a little while)

But because of the Hype of the game, with this being their first MMO, I foresee it being Pay to Play.

Microtransactions (although im completely against it in terms of buy-to-play) is a very viable way I'll have to hit on that at some point in a later video. Kinda pissed I didn't hit on it at all. A friend of mine had a very valid point as well. I will just quote him on it: "I think its time to reinvent how theses models work. For example, why not make it F2P but then add a $7.50 a month and a $15 a month models?" Something similar to what SWTOR did. I am actually going to finish my storyline now because it's F2P and who knows? Maybe if my friends decide hey let's try out the raids! Then I could sub and give it a go!

It's nice to have a nice chat/debate without it being a name flinging, dirt tossing, crap fest. Thank you maturity on the internet <3

If you ever get a chance you should hit me up on mumble one day. And we'll shoot the virtual shit and toss ideas back and and forth. You should also hit up one of our up coming Clarion Call Responds where we sit down and discuss a bunch of the hot topics about TESO and how we see it being rolled out etc.

Hey there, I'm pretty new on these forums and I've just began being interested in the game. I have to say, though, that after playing a couple P2P games for a while and trying GW2's model afterwards, I'm never touching a P2P game ever again... I do not care if they claim they can release more content that way, it's still paying $15 a month for a "promise" from a company to release new stuff, be it a good one or not (which bethesda seems to be a good one, but we've never seen them in a MMO).

If they can provide good additionnal content every month I pay (which would practically be like a DLC model) then I don't mind paying $15 a month, but most of the time, you pay every month for a content patch every 3-4 months, which is riduculous, at least in my honest opinion, considering you've already bought the full priced game in the beginning. Paying for content is a good thing, paying for a promise is quite frankly weird... but hey, people pre-order stuff all the time before even trying it, so I guess it's a thing...

Anyway, I'm a big fan of the series. I've been playing since Morrowind and I'd love to play this game next year. Although, if they decide to go P2P, I think they'll lose a lot of potential players, myself included. I guess we'll see.

Well, I enjoyed the video even though I wouldn't agree with that model, I also liked your analysis of the gameplay one, quite interesting. Keep it up!
