Your Spectability, highly honoured Archmage Galerion

I´ve ended my search in the libraries of Tamriel and my interlocution with numerous eye wittnessers of the daedric beings known as "Daedric Titans". Of course I will elaborate my findings to present an academically adequate composition of the facts I gathered, but I decided to inform you about the progress of my studies.

One of the oldest sources I´ve found are replica of ancient Ra´Gada potsherds. I´m not sure wether they really depict a daedric titan, but some show a crudly drawn winged humanoid with five horns and a tail. Of course this could be one of the many ancient Yokuda gods the Redguards worship even today, or another being.

The first reliable source is a document from Morrowind. It was probably written in the times of Veloth when the Daedric worship florished amongst the Dunmer, Chimer by that time. Even if Molag Bal was thought to be an "evil" Daedra, still some daring summorers explored his and other Daedric Princes´ spheres. Following passage is interesting:

"... And [it] is a shadow of blue and black, winged leather on its back. A trident of horn has to be its face and downward to Nirn tusks impale you twice... [with] its skin so rotten it embraces the cold and still it smiles upon the cacophony of the once living frostbitten screams..."

The other sources I have found so far are much more disturbing than this, I can only hope to not harm my mind with such occult lore. Mostly Dunmer, but also some minor cults and quixotic mages have dealt with the topic of the Daedric Titans.

Let me now come to the eye wittnessers:

Several Nords who I interogated compared the Daedric Titans with the dragons of their myths. Some even told me that these creatures were lead by someone called "Alduin" being a obvious sign of the impending end of Nirn itself. But it were also Nords breaking into the words of their companions, calling them "fools" in civilised words:

On the one hand these ones argued that the Daedric Titans didn´t used the "Tongue" or the "Voice". These, as I learned, are names for a concept of magic that uses the strenght of the own voice and the own soul to "talk like a dragon". One of the Nords demonstrated it on my request. All I remember is an ear-battering shout of the word "Fusselda" - probably the Nords ladyfriend - and that all my stuff lied shattered in my chamber.

Anyway.

On the other hand, some who claimed to have seen a dragon before said that they don´t look like Deadric titans: Dragons are said to have a pair of wings, two legs and a long neck. Daedric again have a pair of legs and a pair of arms. And a short neck. Also dragons are said to be covered in scales, while the muscles and bones of the Daedric Titans are encrusted with rotten looking meat and leatherlike skin.

So, they concluded that Daedric Titans were no Dragons.

Other impressions I collected:

The noses of Daedric Titans are often described as the nose of a bat. Some refer to this Daedra as "giant Imp" due to the wings and some other shared features. But it wasn´t ever wittnessed the Titans wielding any form of magic, like Imps

Everyone gets terryfied by their screams, its seems hard to resist that bone chilling sound. It is said to even affect other Daedra, like Ogrim, Dremora and others. When they hear the roaring scream of a titan above their heads they fight furiously. It´s not known wether they are motivated by a mighty ally, or wether they fear this creature just like we mortals.

Altmer mages claim that the Titans are very servants of Molag Bal. I´m not quite sure, because the loyality of lesser Daedra is insecure and changing. It´s not known wether they solely serve one Daedric Prince like Golden Saints and Dark Seducers serve Sheogorath.

The Nords and other warriors engaging these beast in melee combat tell of a chill that lies among their flesh. Teeth and claws are described to be made of ice or cold metal, naming Stahlrim, the Nords.

Several sailors from Hammerfell to Morrowind claim that the skin of the Daedric Titans equals the bloated skin of dead men floating in cold salty water.

A Khajiit claims that this daedra´s alignements of teeth doesn´t match together. The upper row of teeth and the lower doesn´t fit into each other, causing them to break and crack whenever the beast opens or closes his jaws. No other soldier, mage or adventurer told of such, but the Khajiit showed me large fragments he collected after his battle. Their seize amazed me and I haven´t ever seen such material before. Surely it were teeth, but maybe they stem from a exotic beast in the south east, like the Khajiit himself. Or it was just that individual of a Daedric Titan with such a dental problem.

This is only a rough overview of the many sources and knowledge I´ve gathered so far. I hope that I can start writting a book about the Daedric Titans, like the old Chimer, but in words that are easier to understand. But I´m sure my notes will help to defeat the enemy even if they are unfinished.

I will inform you immediatly if I find something of larger importance.

Yours sincerly

Dacesco Fodiari

PS: I want to thank you another time, archmage Galerion. It´s not easy to trust a former member of the arcane university these days, but be assured, I had to flee when the worm cult seized power. As far as I know you prefer none of the three larger political powers in Tamriel trying to defeat the fallen Empire and each other. I suggest with greatest subservience the support of the resistance in the Empire itself. Still there are some men with honour in their hearts, but they are outnummbered and haven´t enough money or supplies to start a civil war against the legions. All I hope for is a little bit of money and material to support, nothing more.

PPS: Maybe it seems like that all mages who are left in the Arcane University are evil. But some of them have families and are oppressed by the cult. Others don´t want to see the threat or can´t. I´ve heard that my good friend Idriarius is still a big benefactor of the university, making a larger part of their budget. Still he doesn´t know what he´s doing, he´s insane. If you ever manage to destroy the Arcane university, I beg you, don´t attach to much importance to his role! He is a harmless mad men, not knowing what he spends his money for. All I want is to make sure that a innocent friend is spared.

Good read. Was it the concept art which inspired it?

Yup, the concept art. Because it´s the only source I´ve found for them and because I used Daedric titans in my faction pride entry. And I´m a little afraid that Daedric Titans aren´t in TESOF after they were announced, cause I haven´t seen one in the journey to Cold Harbour video :(

That´s why I want to give them a little boast ;)

A nice piece on Daedric titans, even with the very limited information on hand about them.

I like how everything is subject to interpretations when it came to the interviews and interrogations. Conflicting reports, various claims of contact, estranged sources, speculation, etcetera. It paints a plausible picture of the Daedric Titans without directly claiming that these facts are completely true, and makes for a good story of a traveling researcher and academic.

The final two paragraphs are a bit of a departure from the main body of the writing, but that's to be expected with postscripts.

If you worry of possible grammatical errors, there's one sentence...

Original: "On the other hand some who claimed to have seen a dragon before said that they don´t look like Deadric titans:"

Edit: On the other hand, some who claimed to have seen a dragon before said that they don´t look like Daedric Titans:

Maintain consistency with the full name of Daedric Titans, yadayadayada....
