Yes, because it means one of the defining aspects of TES franchise (well-done and enjoyable first-person combat) is now no longer in the game. I'm with ShoddyCast on this one. Not having it in is damn near unacceptable.

Also, can someone please provide a link to the interview? I would very much like to read it myself.

Yea, i guess im one of the minority here. I just dont get it. I can understand where youre coming from, in the aspect of well its in other games, but not this one. But there is a first-person mode. Its just not done the way you want. So i dont think most of your argument actually holds any weight.

About 11:00 minutes in you start to break down why first-person is important, and the differing opinions of 1st v. 3rd. But since there is a 1st person POV, everything that follows is meaningless.

As far as personal opinions goes, heres mine. I actually play TES games in both views. 3rd person is superior for most combat. You get a better look at your surrounding, and more awareness especially in PVP. When talking large scale combat, with AOEs and siege, 3rd person is going to be a must. Anyone playing in 1st person will most likely get backstab pwned, and I will happily laugh on your corpse.

Now i did say I play TES in both. 1st person reigns supreme in detailed targeting. What I mean is, when sneaking around and stealing things, 1st person is a must. Aiming a bow, for sniper shots, 1st person is a must. Its a true pain to pick up that sweet roll on a crowded table, with all the plates and goblets in the way if you arent in 1st person.

Youll notice that while i talk about both 1st person and 3rd person, never once did I mention looking at my hands. If anything that is a major distractor and not a good thing. 1st person already limits your field of view to only whats in front of you, not all around you, but adding in hands on top of any UI elements and you will have a tiny amount of screen space for actually seeing whats killing you. Of course, like i said earlier, im all for allowing you to do it, and i will happily dance on your corpse, since you most likely never saw me coming in the first place. Would hate for you not to know why you just got killed.

I'd like to start off by saying that I agree with everything you said in your post, except the part that I have quoted above. Third person views are MUCH more useful in dealing with combat and identifying your surroundings than first person;
I only used first person in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim until about 3 months ago, and I'm very happy with my "change of view".

One of the most important reasons for using first person mode is to focus the accuracy of your aiming. If you can't see your bow, how will you know that you're ready to shoot it (other than the sound)? This characteristic of The Elder Scrolls is one that helped to make the series famous, which is why some see it as a personal attack on the series itself.

The majority of combat is going to be taking place in third person in TESO, but there will still be instances when players will want to use a stealth approach to fire their first shot. This will (or at least it SHOULD) require additional effort on the part of the player, involving them to get into first person view to accurately aim their weapon to strike at just the right moment.

But please keep in mind that other than this reason, the ability to see your hands when in first person view is cosmetic; not to say that it makes it less important. As of right now, I can say with certainty that Zenimax is trying as hard as they can to focus on the actual gameplay itself rather than cosmetic features, such as player houses.

It can therefore be assumed that this feature WILL be added... we just don't know when.

It better be added later, the sooner the better. Not having first person is a HUGE deal for most true RPing TES fans. On the shoddycast's blog their poll results show 69% of people voted they play first person. Now maybe, lets say half of those people are okay with not having first person. Thats still about 35% of people that are HEAVILY disappointed. And I think it is even a higher number than that. Now I will still buy/play this game (whatever the payment meathod) but without first person, I cant see myself playing it much. Immersion = butchered.

You can still use it. Not putting in hands is their way of telling you that first person isn't viable in the game, nor should you expect it to be.

I wish you guys would stop saying that "there is no 1st person." That is how misinformation spreads.

As for the episode, is there any source to back up this claim that hands were originally in earlier builds and have since been removed? Alpha testers saying that the game "feels like skyrim" or "feels like an elder scrolls game" isn't really enough to convince me.
Something tells me this is also misinformation.
